Transcripts For FBC Countdown To The Closing Bell With Liz Claman 20151229

You can see its a small group at the moment, but they are Holding Signs that say i am tamir rice, stop police brutality, and black lives matter. Rice was playing with a pellet gun at clevelands park back in november 2014 when he was shot and killed. The incident was captured on Surveillance Video and added to this Ongoing National debate of Police Conduct in the wake of several high profile cases featuring unarmed black men killed by white Police Officers. Our Law Enforcement panel on what cleveland needs to do right now to diffuse the high anxiety there. Hillary clinton wants to take on trump. The president ial Campaign Battle just got hotter, but is it marco rubio that hillary should be zeroing in on . He just got, a few hours ago, a high profile endorsement in iowa. Our Political Panel tells us what it all means. And its rally on. Look at the Dow Jones Industrials, jumping 206 points, within striking distance of closing out 2015 with a gain. The Dow Jones Industrial average stands at 17,734 with two full sessions plus one hour of trading left in the year. Heres number, the dow needs to hit 17,823 to join the s p and the nasdaq in positive territory for 2015. Theres a new rumor, two highflying stocks may soon join the exclusive dow club. Were less than an hour to the closing bell, lets start the countdown. Liz okay, here we go. Two more sessions and 58 minutes to gain enough points on the dow to end the year in the green. We are not there yet, but were close. Here are the levels you need to watch. On your screen for the dow its 17,823, were at 17,735 right now. By way, if the dow does not end positive for the year, thatll actually be the first time thats happened since 2008. S p 500 needs to close above 2059, the s p right now is at 2079, so were already there. We have the nasdaq needs to be above 4736, right now were at 5113. Clear sailing, maybe. No red to worry about with amazon. Heres some stock stories were picking out right minute. The Online Retail giant had a very merry christmas, indeed, touching a new alltime high today. Right now were at 695. 22, thats due to strong, muscular holiday sales at amazon, one of the biggest leaders of the nasdaq today. But market watch says amazon should actually join the dow party instead. Rumors are that amazon and Google Alphabet may be the next two names to join the dow to keep the oldtime index, quote, relevant. Apple, though, losing some juice today. While the stock is up about 2. 25 , one of the strongest performers of the s p 500, take a look at the six month chart. We wanted to show this to you so you can see it hasnt been all sweetness and light for apple. Its fallen right now again down, up about 2. 25 , but this leads many to speculate whether weve finally reached a bottom on this stock. To housing, specifically housing prices. We got the caseshiller index, compiles the housing prices and says howd we do. Home prices had a healthy yearoveryear increase of 5. 2 in the month of october, so whos doing best . Apple valley, Silicon Valley where apple is based and many other Big Technology Companies Helping San Francisco and denver and portland to see the highest increase of 10. 9 . New york metropolitan area, we lo to tell you this, this saw a 3. 1 increase in home prices, this should not come as a surprise to anybody wholies here. As of the third quarter, the median price for a manhattan apartment tiny and needs a lot of plumbing work 920,000, brushing up against a million. Closer to the bottom of the barrel, cleveland, which saw just a 2. 2 increase yearoveryear, or only beating out crimeridden chicago and washington d. C. The median home price in cleave lambed, 43,000. Well, cleveland itself at in this very hour is the site of high tension. At this moment youre looking at live pictures where cleveland is bracing for a wave of protests so far very peaceful. Activists are telling people to, quote, be on the streets downtown. The protest center around a grand jury that cleared the Police Officer responsible for fatally shooting 12yearold tamir rice who was holding a toy pellet gun that did look very real. As we keep our cameras trained on the Justice Center, ontario street not far from what the browns play, were going to bring in rod wheeler. He investigated homicides for the d. C. Police department and is currently the founder and president of the criminal Investigation Firm rod wheeler and associates. And here exclusively, joe cordaro. Hes got a track record of reducing crime in cities throughout massachusetts and new jersey. Hes an expert in building bridges between Law Enforcement and the community. Hes also spent 21 years with the nypd. Welcome to you both. Rod, i want to go to you first. In the wake of ferguson, baltimore, chicago, all of these sites of tension, is cleveland ready . You know, i think cleveland is ready. And let me just share with you real quickly, liz, that i was born and raised in cleave lambed. A lot of those protesters i actually personally know. I think they are within their right to protest. You know, liz, when you look at this particular case involving tamir rice, theres no way in the world that that Police Officer should not have at least been taken to a trial. And he wasnt even indicted. And i think thats where the tension comes in. Im not saying the officer was guilty, but at least take him to trial. Liz, ive investigated shootings involving Police Officers, and let me just tell you firsthand with firsthand knowledge, many years of being in Law Enforcement, every element of this case at least shows that this individual should have been indicted. That did not happen. And why didnt that happen . Because that prosecutor, tim mcginty, wanted to sway the jury, the grand jury. And thats what happened. And thats why, liz, we see those people protesting, and like i said, rightfully so in the city of cleveland. Liz well, listen, its america, and you can protest, absolutely. I want to bring in joe who, youve really been an expert in bridging very major riffs where there have been painful wounds between community and police. And this is very well one of them, correct . How do they work on this . How do they fix this situation . Well, you know, this is overshadowed by, you know, the National Temple right now as it relates to Police Community relations in light of a number of policeinvolved shootings. Aside from the criminal case, this drama is not ending anytime soon. You have the probably a lawsuit, you have an administrative liz but for right now these people on the steps of the Justice Center here in cleveland, the is there a paradigm that is perhaps appropriate to bridge a very, very massive wound right now between, this gap between the community and the police at the moment . Absolutely. And part of that is accountability. Its showing the community that the police are accountable, that theres a mechanism and trust in place that they can trust to conduct, you know, investigations, that people can rely on. So part of that is, yeah, bringing people together, explaining to them the process, explaining to them what the Police Department aims to do to bridge the gap of trust right now in that community. Liz rod, there have been what feel like so many of these, but, you know, in the grand scheme of things, well talk about the numbers in a minute. Theres, of course, tamir rice in cleveland, the eric garner Staten Island shooting where, you know, he was down there it was a horrible situation. That, too, was caught on tape. Laquan mcdonald, 17yearold shot 16 times. He had a knife in chicago. We know how tough those situations, and, of course, ferguson too. Right. Liz in some cases justified, in others questionable, and in others it was ors well, what do you expect . Youre waving a weapon around. Youre right. And, you know, thats why, liz, we try to be fair and balanced on this network. And, you know, 99 of time im going to support Police Officers, because ive been out there on the street, and i know what we have to deal with each and every day. However, theres this 1 , liz, and i know my copanelist will agree with this, theres this 1 of Police Officers thats making it look bad for all of us. 1 is that one guy in cleveland, that Police Officer. But ill tell you, on the other side of this, liz, when you look at whats going on in the city of chicago with emanuel, rahm emanuel, hes not making situations there any better either. He throws his cops under the bus. The baltimore mayor, as we know, threw those six cops under the bus. Where does it end . How do we bridge the gap between the Police Departments and the community . And unfortunately, im going to tell you Going Forward into 2016, its not looking that great. Liz i think thats an important point to be made, joe. And as you look at exactly whats happening on your screen, everybody, right now it looks very peaceful, things tend to get a little more dicey when, you know, the sun goes down. Im not saying thats going to happen here, but what next, joe . What is the number one thing . Rod just made the point that rahm emanuel threw his police under the bus. He fired the police chief. But is there a case where sometimes thats, you need to start fresh at the top . Well, if you look at situations in chicago and ills where, you know and elsewhere, it really calls if more a significant change in the policing direction. And when that happens, its appropriate to start at the top. But ive got to also say this, you know, this is just one of many. You know, unfortunate situations that, you know, have been talked about here just a minute ago, and we tend to come up with agreedupon approaches and solutions that we quickly abandon after the spotlight ends on a particular city. We need to move forward in a way that makes bridging the divide among our communities part of a policing culture. We need to measure it like we measure crime statistics. We need to emphasize it as we do arresting bad guys, which is an important part of policing. But also being able to sustain that trust, to build bridges so that when you have these types of situations, you can take a accept back collectively and have, you know, people come together and try to work this out a little better. Liz well, as protests go, this is not a huge one. I can remember working at channel 5 in cleveland, rod, i lived in cleveland like you did, and right around the time of the rodney king Police Beating verdict, i was right there on those very steps covering a different protest. It was a lot bigger. Well be watching it. Our cameras are there. Thank both of you so much for weighing in on this, rod wheeler and joe cordaro. Great to have experienced guys. The closing bell is about 49 minutes away. The markets are doing great today, but still if you look at the bigger picture, fighting to finish 2015 in the green at least for the Dow Jones Industrials which is right now up 215 points. Nasdaq is in. Clean sailing. The s p is right there. Can the dow make it a clean sweep . The traders know. Were about to take you live to the smart guys and the traders on the floor show in just moments. Know better sleep with sleep number. Liz 45, 45 minutes before the closing bell rings. I dont know, you want to call it window dressing, profit taking, bargain hunting, today it could be bargain hunting and window dressing because, guess what . The markets are higher by a pretty long shot, dow jonesvilles up 215 points, we have the s p charging ahead by 24 points, the nasdaqs looking great for the year, absolutely very strong, up 1. 5 . But, you know, the transports lagging a little bit, still up threequarters of a percent. At least they waited til after christmas. Dupont cleaning house. This comes out today. After celebrating its merger with dow chemical, dupont puts the hangover on employees, announcing its going to cut about 28 of its work force in delaware in early 2016 as it prepares for that mega merger. Stock loves it. Its up about 2 . You often see this because investors perceive that companies are slimming down and getting leaner and meaner. Well, some 1700 jobs will be impacted by the costcutting measure. We should check on dow chemical as well, see how dow is trading. With dupont up that much, dow chemical also up two and a third percent. We are less than 100 points away from the dow turning positive for the year. The number the to watch is 17,823. Right now were at 17,747. So as we watch that level, will we see it . Will we get to it . With just about 40 minutes plus two more days of trading, we bring in the traders at the floor show, the new york stock exchange, cme group, the nymex. A trifecta of genius here. Scott redler, are we going to make it . Will the dow turn positive for the year . I know youve got a shortterm crystal ball. Feels like the momentum is with the bulls right now. We probably touch it again for the 20th time this year, so it hasnt made so much of a difference. Its been how you played the range around that number. It does seem like we have a bullish tone, like you said before. Theyre coming in for the weak ones and bottom feeding and also the strong names that have been strong, some of them making new 52week highs, getting marked up. A lot of different ways to play the tape. I think its definitely feasible. Liz okay, feasible. I like that. Hes straddling the line. I want to get to jeff grossman, because a huge story thats developed is that natural gas has skyrocketed both yesterday and today. You know, earlier i was looking, nat gas was up 5 , now were seeing a gain of about, yeah, lets call it 9 here . This is or 6. 5 . Its a big move for nat gas. If we were to show you a one week chart or six month, it would be a lot better. How real is this, or is this just a shortterm short squeeze because a couple of regions have some snow showers . No, this is more getting back to reality here. In fact, whats the most strange aspect of that market is a couple of weeks ago how we really bottomed out and got below 2. That was the real surprise. Now weve come back to more or less where reality is. What we have now is a market that probably has reached about where it should be chart wise from an objective standpoint. It broke down, lets say, a couple of months ago liz well, i think earlier this month we are at a 14year low, so suddenly, boom, spiking. But does that continue, is what im asking. No, no, no. We basically retraced what we needed to, and now were up against about what was the support level, now its the resistance level of around 2. 40 now. So now its going to be a moderating level, shaking a few people out. Being the last day of trading in the spot has been the major factor for some of this move here. So, again, i think youre going to see the market level off in the next week or two, and then well have to take a look at the next inventory report and see where we go from there. Liz okay. Well, that brings me, of course, to dan. Mr. Brainiac when it comes to big picture stuff. Give us your take for 2016. Ive seen more articles on Yahoo Finance and marketwatch. Com and everywhere else, and theyre all trying to game it. What do you see . You know what . Ive seen an economy this year that has just been progressed along at 2 growth, and i want to see us get out of this. Thisll be interesting, because weve had a big increaseover in our pocket increase in our pocketbook with gas prices so low. Well get a hint of the Fourth Quarter next month, and well get a hint of holiday sales to see if any of that money went into the system. I want to see us jump into the 2. 53. 5 growth rate before i get too excited, otherwise were going to plod along again next year. Liz hey, guys, weve been in business for eight years, and weve loved having you guys on all the time. Thank you so much. Happy holidays. Liz stuck by us here at fox business, thank you so much. By the way, the closing bell with about 40 minutes to go, a lot happening here. Keep your eye trained on that dow bug, up 212 points. Well see if we can really punch higher in this final 40 minutes. Senator marco rubio picking up a major endorsement in iowa today. Why . Because it comes from a group that has traditionally considered itself outside tokers from the political outsiders from the political elite at the gop. Were bringing our Political Panel in to tell us if trey gowdy will re
