FBC Countdown To The Closing Bell With Liz Claman April 15, 2016

Rules for disenfranchising voters demanding that the system be reformed. Hes trying to tie senator ted cruz to the establishment for basically bragging about a socalled voterless victory in colorado, but it may not matter when it comes to tuesdays vote at least here in the empire state. New fox news poll shows trump has 18 point National Lead over cruz. 4527 . John kasich has 25 . On the dems, different story, Hillary Clinton hits the trail in harlem following last nights spirited democratic debate. Clinton losing ground nationally to senator Bernie Sanders leading by two points in the new fox news poll. 4846. Can sanders make hillary feel the bern in new york, while hes off to the vatican . Our Political Panel tells us bernies spite for economic inequality can hurt as much as it helps with the nations catholics. Markets are fading in the close, down 25 points right now. Not hitting that 18,000 number. The Dow Jones Industrial average down 26 as oil is sliding ahead of this weekends meeting of top crude producers. And we are less than an hour to the closing bell. Im Cheryl Casone in for liz claman. Lets start the countdown. Breaking news from high to low today, the markets have only moved about a 70point range, the narrowest trading day, the range for the markets, especially for the dow and the s p. 2016, not a lot of quick, a tight market but taking in the crude reality that Oil Prices May be back on the way up when opec and nonopec members meet in doha. When it comes to wall street its all about perspective. The companys revenue dropped 27 in the first quarter. Investors not fazed about it, in earlier trading, citigroup was up now down a quarter percent, 44. 87 is the last trade on citi. We start with politics, it is the battle for new york. Peter barnes is covering the gop race, standing by in plattsburgh, new york at the trump rally. Adam shapiro covering the democrats outside of st. Patricks cathedral here in new york city. We start with the republicans and donald trump, any minute he will be addressing this crowd in plattsburgh, new york. Trump, cruz, kasich visiting upstate new york ahead of tuesdays vote. Trump gaining momentum on the ground and in the polls as Campaign Managers brush with the law is behind him. And new polls show the billionaire businessman is extending lead over cruz. Senator cruz called trump, quote, unhappy. When a candidate loses 11 elections in a row, hes unhappy about it, so he complains, and thats fine. Look, were focused on winning elections with the people. 65,000 people voted in the state of colorado. Donald is unhappy with how they voted. Liz he says they didnt really vote. Fox business washington correspondent peter barnes is live at the trump rally. Seems the tide has turned for the trump campaign, especially here in new york. Thats right, cheryl. Drill down on the new National Poll from fox news, which we expect trump will trump it. He likes to do all the time. Whats significant is the loss of ground by ted cruz from the fox news poll in march. New one showing trump at 45 and cruz at 27. Thats an 11point drop for cruz just in a month or so. John kasich coming in at 25 . We also expect trump to talk about the results of the Colorado State convention, which he has been ripping into, in particular the process for selecting delegates out there. Ted cruz supporters dominating the Republican State Convention in colorado winning all 34 delegates last weekend. The Cruz Campaign says it played by the rules, it won the delegates fair and square, but trump has been raging about the process all week and the wall street journal oped he wrote delegates are supposed to reflect the decisions of voters but the system is rigged by Party Operatives with doubleagent delegates who reject the decision of voters. Trump is demanding reforms but in a Campaign Stop today john kasich didnt sound like he wanted reforms to the process. Lets listen. Every delegate they win provides more momentum for me to be able to go to that convention and win. When we get to that convention, there will be two considerations, who can win in the fall . Im the only one that consistently does it. And secondly, who actually can be the kind of a leader that can run our country . Reporter and, of course, kasich along with ted cruz, their strategy is to deny as many delegates to trump as they can, to deny him the nomination outright on the first ballot and force a contested convention which both cruz and kasich say they can win. Cheryl . Peter barnes live in plattsburgh, new york, awaiting donald trump. Well monitor the rally, peter. Thank you very much, well take you live there when mr. Trump does take to the stage. As the tide turns for trump, a new fox news poll shows the democratic president ial race tightened with Hillary Clinton leading Bernie Sanders by two points nationally. Earlier today hillary stopped at the Senior Center in harlem before she headed to california where she spoke about doing more for Senior Development and creating affordable housing. So were going to create more incentives from the federal government for affordable housing. Were going to boost funding for what are called section 8 vouchers. Were going to give people more choices as to where they live, and were going to do more to help particularly young people, afford to buy a home. And while Hillary Remains stateside, her opponent has traveled to vatican city to speak on income inequality. Will bernies vatican trip hurt his chances in new york come tuesday . Adam shapiro at st. Patricks cathedral talking to catholics what they feel and think about mr. Sanders trip. Adam . Reporter going to rome, a little mishug na as they say in new york city, perhaps bizarre because he is closing the gap and he left new york at the height of the campaign with the primary tuesday. He is in rome, here is mr. Sanders attending the Education Conference at the vatican. That is a passion of his. He wanted to get the meeting with the hope which he will not get, the pope is going to be in greece. Mr. Sanders will come back on wednesday. He met with supporters outside and they were Holding Signs that said rome is burning. There are Bernie Sanders supporters in rome at the vatican with him, and heres what he said why he took this trip . When i received this invitation, yeah, i know its taking me away from the campaign trail for eight days, but when i received this information, it was so moving to me, that it was something that i could just not refuse to attend. Reporter so we asked some of the people here who are at st. Patricks cathedral what they thought of the president ial candidate going to rome trying to meet the pope. Heres what they told us . I think that politics and religion should be separate. Separation of church and state. America, we are americans not catholics, jews, muslims, we are americans, all one person, so i dont think it matters. Well, i think its a good thing because as americans we want to embrace each other and if hes doing it for that purpose to bring people together whether it be muslim or jewish or catholic. Or whatsoever other religion. Reporter so just to wrap up, cheryl, the poll as you said closed the gap with Hillary Clinton, she only leads by two points according to the latest fox poll. A Sienna College poll shows he closed the gap among new york democrats. At one point she had a 20point lead, now a 10point lead. This is going to be an interesting tuesday, but neither candidate is in new york, theyre both on the road. The gop candidates are right here in the empire state. Adam, thank you. As we are waiting on donald trump, hes going to be speaking live in plattsburgh, new york. You are looking at live pictures of the crete civic center. Hes moving onto hartford, hes not been making many friends at the rnc today. That may not shock you. A day after trump wrote an oped in the wall street journal calling the system of choosing delegates rigged, the rnc is firing back. I want to show you this statement. Heres what they wrote im joined by jessica ehrlich, democratic strategist and Kelly Riddell, opinion editor at the washington times. Thanks to both of you for being here. Kelly, great interest the oped he wrote, and one of the things was interesting, voter disenfranchisement is not only part of the cruz strategy, it is the cruz strategy. That will resonate and hurt cruz . I dont know if its going to hurt cruz. Hes got a loyal following himself. But it certainly is a strong message for donald trump. He is running as the ultimate outsiders outsider, and just showing the people how much this system is just benefits those on the inside and how hard it is to break in as an outsider. I think its a really good message for him and does resonate really well. He talks about the establishment and viewers are thinking who is that establishment . He calls them out and he says it is consultants, pollsters, politicians, pundits and special interests involved. Those are the ones basically against him but does that make the gop look bad . Does it hurt the Party Overall on a National Level . I think it speaks to sort of the feeling were seeing really on both sides of the aisle but certainly in the gop where weve gone from the Tea Party Movement all the way now to where we are where we look like were going to be having a brokered convention. There is this splintering between what are considered inside the beltway people and folks who are out there in the trenches living day to day normal lives and were seeing that on the left and the right. And thats who donald trump is speaking to. Similarly thats who Bernie Sanders is speaking to. People in general who feel disenfranchised. Kelly, the rnc is expected to speak about this. Who benefits, who loses from a contested convention . I think donald trump clearly loses on a contested convention. Youve seen the messaging that Paul Manafort his manager put out there, that if he doesnt prepared to walk away with nothing. They arent prepared, they think they are going to walk away with nothing. The more votes you have, the more that benefits ted cruz. Youve seen him do a very good job at wrangling the delegates, louisiana he lost but has just as many delegates or more than donald trump. You see him going into minnesota and trying to take rubios delegates. Doing a very good job at targeting specific state and sweeping the delegate count like colorado. Its totally fair, within the rules, and donald trump youre seeing him ramp up efforts to match ted cruz in the delegate count. Jessica, i want to ask you about last night. Theres the delegate count as it stands, mr. Trump with 743, cruz with 545 and john kasich, some calling him the ross perot of the gop right now. It is so interesting, last night you saw hillary on the defense irv. More so than i think shes been in the past. Do you think shes feeling the bern as shes feeling he is going to hurt her . Well, i dont know shes feeling that hes going to hurt her but definitely there were two aspects last night. One it seemed like these guys are theyve been debating each other now, i think this is the eighth time and theyre gloves off partly because its in new york and certainly something that Bernie Sanders has said in one of his strategies is to be tougher in new york, in order to win new york state you have to come out and look like a winner and a tough guy and a little more trumpian. And the other thing is i think theyre a little fed up of the rhetoric coming out of both of the campaigns. You saw two people kind of there was a lot of yelling. They were trying to maintain the lid on it which we have not seen so far in the campaign or any of the debates on the democratic side. Yes, its a departure from before when bernie was saying lets not talk about the emails to pounding on the issues. Thats because its a slim margin with all of these guys, trying to differentiate themselves. Trying to get voters and really pulling no punches here. Right, right, when i say hurt her, he could be hurting her on a National Scale looking ahead to the general election. Jessica, kelly, ladies, thank you very much. Thanks. We are going to have much more on the 2016 race later. Brian morganstern from the new York Young Republicans Club is coming up in about half hour. And also watching the markets on friday the dow 30 split down the middle, narrow trading range, lot of green on the screen. Cant believe i got that out straight. Urban outfitters one of the big winners as investors shop for price target upgrade yesterday. A gain of 3. 5 . And once again take you out live to plattsburgh, new york, show you this live picture from the stage. The trump rally, the civic center, taking to the stage at any moment. Were watching the live pictures and bring you all of the action live from plattsburgh and, of course, look at the markets. Youre watching countdown. Stay with us.
