FBC Making Money With Charles Payne May 10, 2017

Democratic colleagues complaining about the removal of an fbi director whom they themselves repeatedly and sharply criticized, that removal done by a man Rod Rosenstein who they repeatedly praised. When mr. Rosenstein recommended mr. Comeys removal for many of the reasons they consistently complained about. Charles joininge congren pete hoekstra. The political kabuki theater, everyone jockeying for different things. What are we watching . What are both parties trying achieve right here . What youre seeing here is why grassroots america hates washington. I think Steve Colbert announced james comey was fired, and his audience applauded. And its like, no, no, guys, thats the wrong answer, youre supposed to be upset he forgot to tell them, when i tell you james comey has been fired, i know the democrats have been telling you for ten months hes a terrible person, now youre supposed to boo because you want him in office. This is washington and the democrats being totally out of touch with where the American People are. Charles of course, we took a poll 26 hours ago, overwhelmingly democrats would say he cost hillary the election and should go asap. Having said that, you have Mitch Mcconnell calling for reminding the democrats that hoekstra i got all the names confused, im so excited. They were in favor of comey not only leaving but bipartisan decision if you will, suggested to the president on something everyone more or less agreed on. I want to talk about getting beyond the pitical aspect of this as theater part of it. There is talk of a constitutional crisis. There is talk of the wheels of d. C. Move at a snails pace being bogged down even more, will this be excuse for the democrats to be more obstructionist than they already have been. If this wasnt the excuse they would find another excuse to be obstructionist. Theyve done it the last four months. The first four months of this presidency. But the bottom line is, you know, what does donald trump need to do . He needs to appoint somebody that the American People see clearly as a better fbi director than what james comey is. Someone that will go in and will be, you know, nonpartisan. Someone that will call the balls and strikes and enforce the law, will follow through on the investigations that the fbi has been doing and that theyre continuing to do. So the bar of picking someone better than james comey is not necessarily that high for the American People. When he does that and people see that washington still working, it will be just fine. Charles how important is it we get a confirmation vote that is not 5248 . Do we need to see some bipartisanship for the next fbi director . Its extremely important. And thats exactly what the president is going to strive for is to get somebody that he has confidence in but also someone that the democrats cant say no to. That may be a difficult objective to reach, but i think hell get there, and thats what hes going to thats what hes going to accomplish. Charles its a shame in these times, the slight amount of bipartisanship will be considered herculean task. Congressman hoekstra, appreciate it. Good to be with you, thanks, charles. Charles want to bring in panel, tammy bruce, Steve Rodgers and sarah westwood. Tammy, start with. You sure. Charles the name i was trying to spit out was Rod Rosenstein, its interesting, some call him rosenstein, rosenstein, 946 confirmation. He was appointed some offices early in his career by democratic president barack obama. So the idea he pushed for this really should squash all of the other bipartisan nonsense and should help us move on with the task of getting someone at the fbi that can restore americas confidence and not only the Intelligence Community but in general . Yeah, but it wont, because the democrats made it very clear to the country theyre not playing what the founders expected them to play. Theyre not there to do the right thing. Judge gorsuch who confirmed unanimously for his federal position, and then he gets filibustered. Youre not looking at a reasonable, normal, logical dynamic. I would normally agree, you would everybody to come together, of course we do. You cant be held hostage by the mania on the other side that makes no sense, and at this point what donald trump is going to do because hes going to be pushed no matter what he does is choose someone who is genuinely superior for that position. Maybe it is rudy giuliani. Maybe its mitt romney. Maybe its mr. Rosenstein. I dont know. But he cant make a decision based on trying to win over the hearts and minds of people who do not care, and this is the failure of the democrats. They could have negotiated and worked with donald trump but now theyve put themselves in a position where they have nothing on the table because theyve already said they refused to cooperate. Charles sarah, immediately last night after the news broke, you had senator ben sassa of nebraska saying the timing of the firing was the troubling. Senator richard burr saying hes troubled by the timing and reasoning and senator john mccain saying im disappointed in the president s decision, all three being republican senators. President trump has a serious obstacle here with respect to finding perhaps the ideal candidate not just for the other side of the aisle but even within his own party. Exactly. The fallout from this decision did not stem from the why of comeys dismissal. I think it was a widely accepted principle that everyone in washington had grown dissatisfied with comeys tfrmans. It was the why now. Why in the midst of investigation that does touch on allegations against his campaign did he dismiss the fbi director with what appeared to be urgency. Comey discovered he had been terminated by seeing it on tv. They couldnt even wait until he had been properly notified to release this information. So the timing of it is key to the controversy surrounding this decision and to put that behind them for the white house to be able to make a clean break from the controversy, they need to pick someone whose Law Enforcement credentials are unimpeachable. Thats the only way theyre going to get a clean slate from the controversy. Charles steve, earlier today, Vice President pence spoke about the matter, and what struck me is he talked about President Trump making the decision in part because of the safety of the american public. I think were getting so lost in the political aspects of this, we dont understand, and i want you perhaps to explain to us, whats at stake for us . Because this is not just any position. Were talking about the director of the fbi and the failure which have led to a real serious degradation, if you will, in the confidence of the entire Intelligence Community. Charles, you said the key word, confidence, the president spelled out a lack of confidence in director comey not only within the fbi charles was his inability to do the job or his love for the limelight or whatever you want to call it, did that put americans at risk, at physical danger . I believe it did and could have, based on his you got to remember, this is the guy that was investigating Hillary Clintons emails and went and usurped the authority of the attorney general when he decided to make the decision not to prosecute and not to go further with that. The point is when there is a lack of confidence in the rank and file, there could be a failure in performance. Thank god the fbi is great, always going to do their job, you need a leader who rank and file is going to have enough confidence is, when that decision is made from the top, it is a decision that will keep the American People safe as well as agents and Law Enforcement on the field. Can i add something to sarahs point about timing. The democrats made it so there would never be a good time. There will always be an investigation, youll always have nests of the hillaryobama people in every agency. Its not even a good time for him to wake up in the morning. For you going to wait, this is my column tomorrow in the washington times, if the president is waiting for the best time to take action, it will never exist because theyve arranged it so there will always be a controversy or scandal or theyll make one up in order to keep him from doing something. Theyve got to keep him from firing people. Thats the key for the democrats. That was the intention to hold onto the agencies and keep him from being able to govern. Charles sarah, a lot of talk about finding someone whos apolitical but well known. Thats tough. When you find the person theyll be sitting next to a live dodo bird. Do you think someone that the public believes doesnt have an axe to grind . I do, thats the way to get the situation behind them. It will be difficult to move on from this without putting a finite point on the controversy with someone who is able to go before the democrats, defend their Law Enforcement credentials. Look, democrats will be presented with sort of an embarrassing situation if the Trump Administration nominates someone who is so well qualified and so well respected within the legal community, that democrats will look partisan if they obstruct the nominee and said that they intent to obstruct him or her. If trump does that, that would be to political advantage to find someone whos not a republican necessarily, whos not from the political arena but someone who comes from the Law Enforcement space. Charles something tells me theres an chapter in art of the deal that covers. That the next hard part is picking the ideal replacement in a politically charged washington, d. C. Were going to talk names next. Think again. This is the new new york. We are building new airports all across the state. New roads and bridges. New mass transit. New business friendly environment. New lower taxes. And new University Partnerships to grow the businesses of tomorrow today. Learn more at esd. Ny. Gov. Charles President Trump expected to announce his nomination for the fbis new director following, of course, the firing of james comey and, quote, the coming days, according to white house official and on the heels of the Justice Department spearheading the search for the interim director. I spoke with senator rand paul, a comey critic, about the ideal replacement. Roll tape. I think a lot of people come from within the fbi, i dont know thats an absolute. You want someone with experience in Law Enforcement, but also want somebody who knows how to balance Civil Liberties with Law Enforcement. One of my concerns with comey hes on the hill advocating for more power for the fbi. Charles here to discuss, Ford Oconnell and matthew whitacre, matthew, everyone is playing the game. The ideal candidate, particularly in this politically charged environment that were in, you know this as well as anyone else. Who do you think could get the public back on board but garner the respect of the men and women of the fbi . Well, i think we need to move away from the idea of a celebrity big name appointee and look like ken weinstein, for example, at the department of justice and opened up the First National Security Division within the department of justice. I know Chuck Rosenberg is also on the list the interim director at dea, he had pretty Good Relationship with jim comey. He may not be as popular a ck, but its going to be somebo who knows their way around the department of justice, knows how the fbi works and lead an organization that right now appears to be a little disrupted. Charles to that point, apparently, there were candidates interviewed today. All names that the public would never have known. William ebbania. Special agent in charge of the richmond fbi, Michael Anderson from chicago, paul bates executive assistant director from the criminal cyberdivision. What do you think about that, ford . From going within the organization and elevating someone that knows the ins and outs of happening there, the espirit de corps but also for the fbi and the public . I dont know about the public, we have to worry about the fbi and the career employees, look, donald trump has been known to surprise people, if he follows Jeff Sessions and Rod Rosenstein on this, you may find that person. Let me say, this what were talking about now and looking for the ideal candidate who knows the inside, the outside to balance the civil liberty and Law Enforcement, going from a needle in a haystack to fivetime winning super bowl quarterback. This has to get done and my advice to donald trump is simply this, find someone without potical baggage and eat this like selecting a Supreme Court justice because basically the hopes of a nation really rely on this. Charles matthew, speaking of Supreme Court justices, one of the key questions in the confirmation process for gorsuch was whether or not he would push back against his administration on cases that might have involved donald trump or some of his proposals. What about the next fbi director . How independent do we want this person to me, him or her. How much pushback should they be willing to give back the white house, understanding they have the job at pleasure of the president . Its going to need to be somebody that can have independence and conduct the investigations without interference and without being distracted by the political circus that currently is washington, d. C. And Rod Rosenstein who we talked a lot about in this story is a man i served with as u. S. Attorney, he continued on in the Obama Administration and has the pedigree they think the next fbi director has to have. Somebody that can work for both sides but viewed as independent and the ability to run the organization. Charles and recently being confirmed 946, hard for the democrats to push back. Weve got to go. Im sorry. Listen, you cant talk about the james co getting the democrats and the Mainstream Media going absolutely nuts. How about this for a headline. Ap analysis, trump thrusts u. S. Presidency into perilous area. Weve got more like that coming up. Were on to you, diabetes. Times up, insufficient prenatal care. And administrative paperwork. Your days of drowning people are numbered. Same goes for you, budget overruns. And rising costs, wipe that smile off your face. Were coming for you, too. For those who wont rest until the world is healthier, neither will we. Optum. How well gets done
