Tax reform will be guided by what will eventually be the 2018 budget resolution in the house and senate. Tax reform according to chairman kevin brady of the ways and Means Committee not in jeopardy. But with healthcare, you saw what happened today. Lets look at the three nors who for lack of a better term killed the repeal of obamacare. Yet there may be at the end of the kay the ability to come together, democrats and republicans. Let obamacare fail. It will be a lot easier. I think we are probably in that position where well let obamacare fail. Im not going to own it. The republicans are not going to own it. Well let obamacare fail and then the democrats will come to us and say how do we fix it or come up with a new plan. Reporter the democrats are quick to shoot back saying the president wants to sabotage income the United States. The president s path which is simply to sabotage the system and hurt millions of people, make things far worse than they are today, is not an acceptable choice. And i hope our republican colleagues will realize that. Reporter Mitch Mcconnell promising there will be a vote on the record to repeal obamacare, even if its destined to fail, he want it on the record. Gerri congressman louie gohmert, a member of the Freedom Caucus joins me with more. I watched this and i can feel the pain of the American People watching congress and the senate specifically here just incapable of coming to agreement on what time the sun might set tonight. It seems like they cannot find Common Ground. I thought the most of famous job came from the Vice President , he said, just do your job. Thats being echoed from the west coast to the east coast, from the north to the south. Do you feel that heat and think congress should get it act together . Absolutely. The reason we got the majority back is because we were promising if you gave us the majority we would repeal obamacare. Been saying that since 2010. And then in the last session, the last congress, we passed a repeal of virtually everything. The house passed it, the that passed it, and the on thing we were left needing was the presidency. Now we have got the presidency and the president himself said if you will just pass the repeal bill ill sign that and then well work on the replacement. Its important to remember though gerri the house of representatives put a repeal through 50 times. Dozens and dozens. Gerri and where are we now . Thats the point. Some of us believe and i think the Freedom Caucus is all there. The senate cant take up the bill that we passed and sent down there, then lets go back to what we know works. Its important to remember, before obamacare, 75 or more of the American People were satisfied with their health understand and their healthcare. Wouldnt that be a nice change from where we are now . That would be big, just to repeal it. Gerri thats going nowhere in the senate. Thats a nonstarter. Think about it. If we tart pushing and the American People tart pushing. Get a vote on that bill you did in the last congress. Would you want to be the senator that voted for the repeal last time and now says now that it counts im not going to . You will lose your seat the next election i would imagine. Gerri its a great question. What i dont unis how we come together, how our representatives in congress contact. You have seen what happened in the senate. You see capito and collins saying no. Where is that Common Ground . What is that magic coming together . Is there an issue . An item . Is it spending . How do we thread this needle . We have done it before lets bring back the bill we all voted for and vote on it again. And god help the one who voted different than they voted when it was going to be struck down by the president. Gerri are you suggesting the house bring repeal back . You bet i am. Gere require not before the senate, whats the point . We just heard from senators saying they are not going to vote for it. There have been a lot of people around this building who said they wouldnt do this or would do that, and when they had to vote, lo and behold they found righteousness and did the right thing. You heard me railing on the senate and the congress about their inability to get anything done. We have a budget coming out of the house and they are already disagreeing on that . The country has to move forward. How does it happen . The way it will move forward is for congress to pass repeal of obamacare. The senate has to act. They have to pass repeal of obamacare. They can go back to the 2015 repeal bill and vote for that. The three senators who came out today and said they would not vote for it, they voted against obamacare when it first came out, then they voted to repeal it 50 or 60 times, now they are going to protect it . Do they think that will fly with the voters . Its not going to fly. Especially when the voters know they are exempt from obamacare. Its time for them to exempt the rest of us and repeal obamacare. Gerri boyd, is it as easy as bringing up a repeal vote . If that were the case, wouldnt it have happened earlier . I think jenny beth is right, we need to get that repeal in where we can go back and do what every member of congress promised to do, which was get something that would work for the forgotten man and woman in america. The current bill doesnt do that. But they need to get back to does this help the forgotten man and forgotten woman. They put mr. Trump into the white house. Gerri i think we are all feeling like the forgotten person. What are they doing . Madison, i want to focus on tax reform. That to me is the thing that will bring this economy together. This is what we are all waiting for. It gives more momentum to the stock market. It will put people to work. Is this on hold . The white house says its pushing it forward. Republicans are not getting 100 behind the agenda of President Trump. President trump ran to change america and make America Great again. We are seeing republican senators who have been in office for many years. I remember being a Young College student in 2010 when obamacare was passed. Senators said they would see that it was repealed and replaced. Until they get it done, im not convinced they will make the changes we the American People want to see. You know they are exempt from obamacare and you want the same exemption. Then call the white house and ask the president to use his trump card. He can get rid of the congressional exemption of obamacare. Make it effective october 1 and give these congressmen and their staff and the senators to act. Eric, ill start with you. We talk about nafta and transforming trade in this country. And so many economists and Business People get up in arms. But this is an agreement thats 23 years old. It seems to me the goals that were originally in place have been met. Isnt it time to do something with nafta . I think in reading over this document, it still is a bit of a black box in terms of what they are going to do thats going to drive the under lying forces behind what president obama was campaigning for, which is how do we bring jobs back. Many of these jobs that have been affected by the macro economics. Many investments have been made in mexico and certainly in canada, but largely mexico. I dont know there is anything i have seen that is going to make a meaningful difference, a largescale difference to bring jobs back, and thats sad. It doesnt go far enough. Its possible the Trump Administration will do that when they negotiate. Gerri jeff, i think its a good point this is one of the promises of donald trump. He was going to level the Playing Field. When you look at the economics of mexico and canada in the wake of nafta passing, mexico is growing like to gang busters. Thats economy is so much bigger. They realized the hopes and expectations of nafta and china kinds of puttered along. Isnt it time to level the Playing Field begin . Politicians have been promising to fix the problems in nafta for 23 years. But president obama is the first one to have the guts to address it. And he did campaign on doing this which was very, very popular across the industrial parts of the midwest where they lost a lot of manufacturing jobs to mexico. If you go back to when nafta was first drafted. Then president ial candidate ross perot predicted a giant sucking sounds of manufacturing jobs would be lost and he was right. Dont forget the original nafta being written when it was doesnt include Digital Music or ebooks. So there are a lot of things that need to be includes. The trade deficit we have with mexico, thats certainly not nothing. You say that its unclear what this trade deal would do. But isnt the number one goal reducing the deficit with mexico . It is. But i dont see practical things. Intellectual property. Thats not a big issue it is with china. So its a preliewfd what they may do with china. What are they really going to do . Where is the key . Where is the meat . What is going to change the ceo mindset of the United States that will cause things to be different . I dont see that. President trump is addressing nafta, thats a great thing. Jesse, madison, start with you. Such an interesting story. So whats going on, we have a lot of students who took out private loans, and these loans were purchased by investors. They were sliced and diced and sold as bonds. Now they dont have the underlying paperwork. So judges wont go after these people when they dont make their payments. What do you make of this story . Its a shame they didnt lose my student loan paper. We need to look at Student Loans in general. It has accelerated at such a high rate that its become a burned for students and the u. S. Economy. . There is over a trillion dollars in Student Loan Debt. This is as huge problem with many young people being forced to delay things like purchasing a home, getting married, starting a small business. This is just a negative for the country. By looking at federal and private loans we can improve on this. Gerri im sorry to interrupt madison, Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell just declaring from the senate floor, well have to vote on the motion to proceed to repeal early next week. He said this was at the request of the president and Vice President. So next week that repeal vote coming up. Well probably have more details on that as well. Going back to my panel on this student loan crisis. When you boil this down, it looks so much like the mortgage crisis. This is exactly what happened. We had this problem with the loans, they couldnt find documentation and people ultimately were able to walk away sometimes from a lot of debt. It looks like that may happen here. The trust has lost the chain of ownership. They did a random sampling of 400 cases and didnt have the chain of ownership. It ends up targeting people who are disadvantaged to begin with. This will be problematic going forward. You could potentially see hundreds of people getting off the hook for the debt. Gerri they end up in court because someone fails to make a payment. Then the trusts who own the debt sue. But the judges say you cant proceed because you dont have your dawmenddont have your doc. We have people like you with Student Loan Debt, 1. 4 triout there. And they are trillion out there. And joe down the road, maybe his debt just goes away. Its not fair, its not equitable. How do you think people will respond . I think its a frustrating situation for everyone involved. A lot of times they came forward with falsified paperwork with the mort gaining crisis. It will be interesting to see if they do that here. It will allow these people most of likely to get off the hook which brings us back to the question of should these loans be sold over and over again.
