Ramadi, 25 is contested, how sure is this victory . Well, the iraqi forces unless for some reason they just quit will finish retaking ramadi. Its going to be messy. Urban warfare the street fighting with booby traps and ambushes and snipers, you can only go so fast, and its always ugly. But they will retake it. And thats important. Its a significant tactical victory militarily. Its a big pr blow for Islamic State. But once the battle is over, once the shooting more or less stops in ramadi, then the strategic question kicks in and thats when the Iraqi Government, the baghdad government backed by iran, by the way, will they show common sense this time around and allow the sunni arabs, in province in continuous areas a reasonable degree of self government, of self control . Because iraq if it has any hope whatsoever of returning to the old borders, its got to be as federation. The kurds are not coming back, et cetera,. Deirdre yeah, i want to underline that point because as you said u. S. Officers excluded for this mission of retaking ramadi. They excluded, in fact, the shia group and the kurdish groups, and it seemed to be a cleaner operation. So is this the way that the u. S. Should be moving forward . Well, it would be much, much tougher. Multiethnic, multiple claims. Ramadi was a sunni, arab city. We have to be careful about Wishful Thinking and wishing the Iraqi Government to be better than it really is. Because im hearing reports that, in fact, although the Iraqi Government in baghdad promised us there would be no shia malishes did what they did was dress up. So the key question is will they try to press sunnis or will they give them a share shake . If they wont, its back to square one eventually and just endless fighting. Deirdre so, colonel, i want to bring back something you said as well about this idea that terrorists did leave behind ieds, they left behind other forms of booby traps. I mean we have to assume that these terrorists will not give up territory quietly. If you were planning the response or a preresponse, what is the most important step right now for the u. S. Military to consider . Well, the most important step is resolve on the part of the american president because ultimately no matter how well our forces are quipped and trained. If the nations ceo doesnt show resolve and and the willingness to support our troupes, ultimately you dont get there. So right now this is a nice return on a small investment to put it in wall street terms. But ultimately its going to take a larger investment, and you better have the president under riding it. Deirdre do you think that the president , president obama realizes this now, especially after recent events, paris included . No, diedre, i really dont think he does. And im afraid hes going to look at ramadi, which is important but a relatively small operation and says see, this proves my approach works, no u. S. Boots on the ground, et cetera. And hes not thinking big enough because ramadi again, its important. No question about that. But the biggest strategic issue is after the defeat of Islamic State, of isis if were able to do that and that would depend on president ial resolve, the question is will we whined up delivering it all to iran . And thats the question strategically and economically. Because right now our air force, our aircraft are basically flying missions in support of irans longterm goals. So theres so much yet to come. And without an honest appraisal on the part of our the Obama Administration and resolve shown by the president , were going to continue to muttle through. And while right now it is difficult, more difficult for Islamic State in the rulings of iraq and syria, you see their global brand continues to spread to western europe. You mention the paris attacks. To san bernardino. So i just feel that were taking it in ones and twos, tactically when were failing to think strategically. Deirdre all right, colonel, i heard what you said. Resolve is always the important. It is. Deirdre happy new year. Happy new year, diedre. Deirdre thank you. You too. With more diplomatic implications in progress in ramadi, im joined now by christian wyatten, former advisor, im sure you heard the colonels comments setting up success for iran. Do you see that as an unintended consequence . Yeah. I think there is that real problem, especially, again, you have this government in baghdad that is shia dominated, shia supremacied and even though they did a little bit cosmeti cosmetically to make ramadi look like something different, youre still stuck with this problem that sunni arabs are basically through with baghdad. This is going to make it very difficult to holiday ramadi, somewhat easy for isis phenomenally come back, and were still stuck with this foreign policy, not just the United States but most of the that were pretending that its just one country when, in fact, its three countries. Deirdre the bright spot here as colonel was mentioning, it is important, it has key roads going into syria, it has key roads access roads for other points, jordan as well. But it doesnt sound like you think that this is a great move in the fight against terrorism . No. I think its very limited. Isis still has control of basically most of the water and a lot of the roads and a lot of the strategically important areas, and thats something the president has said in the past, and im sure well hear it again after ramadi has been taken from isis. But look elsewhere around the world. If you look at libya in particular, isis has basically made a hinterland there. It now patrols the streets of libya, and you can expect other cities to fall as well. You have isis turning up in central asia and places like benjami bangladesh and more here in the last two or three years than alqaeda did the entire decade after 9 11. So politically, diplomatically this is still a force on the march and to say nothing of its recent roads in paris and out here in california. Deirdre so one more point isis seems so im putting this in quotation marks successful because they do seem to be masters of media, masters of recruiting. On that note, i want to bring in its a pr response to ramadi. This 24minute recording released, shared on social media this weekend. So it features an isis leader essentially telling terrorist soldiers to be patient because they are on the right path and the u. S. Led alliance should not scare them. Now, in reaction here in new york congressman peter king, you know him, the chairman of the house committee, Homeland Security saying, in fact, theres truth in the message because the u. S. And russia have done little to halt this army of bloodthirsty militants. Unfortunately, overall hes probably right that after 15 months 16 months of air attacks by the u. S. , its had really minimal impact on isis, considering how long those attacks have been going on. Deirdre so, christian, it sounds like you agree with the congressman. I think theres a lot of validity to that. I mean if you look at the fact that this ragtag army supposedly the jv team has been able to stand up to the United States and u. S. Led coalition for almost two years now, i mean world war ii took three and a half years for the United States. Obviously some problems with that comparison but this is the the problem is theyve had something taken away from them, but its not enough to change the dynamic. And isis really has surpassed other groups. Like alqaeda, political groups like the Muslim Brotherhood and islamism globally, and we havent even scratched the surface, we havent declared a policy of refuting islamism. So were discussing the and wed assad without a real, clear plan to kill isis and leave some of these other problems for people in the region to solve or not solve. Deirdre so, christian, on that note with the Muslim Brotherhood and other groups that are to feed certain branches of terrorists in the middle east, congressman weighed n on that, for those who didnt hear, were going to play his comments now. Should there be more surveillance in the muslim communities . The answer is yes. And there should not be restrictions put on the police. The reaction is sound police work means you go where the threat is coming from. And its coming from the muslim community. Deirdre so obviously congressman focusing a little bit closer to home. Thats a very controversial stance here. France for its part has done it, it has put certain mosques on a watch list if they thought to have radical. Should the u. S. Consider those moves . Well, we should we should do whats worked in the past. And where you sit in new york city, the nypd, the Police Department actually did very thoughtful, very important work, especially after 9 11 during the bloomberg administrations, which is to cooperate with Muslim Leaders and of course conduct surveillance where the problems are and blessed in the United States that muslims have emigrated here much more than europe and there are going to be some bad apples, and you have to keep an eye on them, and some politicians dont like that and have pulled that back, including in new york city. So restoring that, copying that elsewhere in the United States, looking at cold war measures that made life difficult for communists and applying that today to islamists, things like updating the act. Declaring islamists or actually first defining islamism, the ideology of radical islam, excluding those people from the United States, defining them as inadmissible aliens, these are things weve done in the past to tackle these ideologyological opponents even though it has been some time since recent attacks here in the United States and more than a decade since 9 11. Weve done them well in the past, and we can do them agai. Deirdre all right, christian, thank you for being here. Christian wyatten joining me there. Hacking group said an attack in italy. Is this group doing more to stop the terror group than our own government . There are some within the u. S. Government that say beware. Theyre not on our side. Also bill clinton is going to be campaigning with his wife. Donald trump says the former president is right for criticism. And he said things that were very, very problematic and troublesome. So, you know, i dont certainly bill clinton is not going to be the endall in the campaign, and hell come under attack. Not just from me but from many other people. I think he is fair game because his presidency was considered to be troubled to put it mildly because of all the things shes talking to me about. Shes got to be careful, its got to be fair, and we have to fight fairly and for the good of the country, for the good of the people, for the good of everybody, but we have to fight fairly, and shes playing the womans card and its, like, give me abreak. Deirdre donald trump called bill clinton fair game after the former president announced he would be campaigning with his wife, democratic president ial candidate Hillary Clinton. Trump tweeted this morning, and i will quote him, if hillary think so she can unleash her husband with his terrible record of women abuse while playing the womans card on me, she is wrong. Senior editor of the daily caller Dave Weinstein is with me and john rowley. Thank you, both, for joining me. What is a win jamie, im started with you in trump attacking bill clinton . What does he have to gain . Well, i think he has a lot to gain. He can deflect kind of the attack. Look, it does take some goal for. No, sir. Deirdre could you say the republicans on a fictional war on women when her husband his whole life launched personal with a on women with all the Sexual Harassment allegations that have been on him. So if trump isnt accused by this, he doesnt play by the rules if you will, certainly hes going to launch back and point out her husband of, oh, so many years has been doing these things on a personal level which addicts from the attacks on him. Deirdre so, john, to jamies point, bill clinton is no stranger to controversy. No stranger to limelight for the wrong reasons, i mean should Hillary Clinton just have ignored his comment . Well, of course she shouldnt and when you think about what trumps up to. Lets talk numbers, not opinions i mean trump has an almost 60 negative generating with the general election electric rhett. Bill clinton has about a 60 positive generating. So from a general election at some point, this is a blunder on trumps part. But what people fail to recognize about him, hes appealing to a sliver of the Republican Party teaparty based, this anger, older, whiter, obamahating electorate, so he can get a shortterm win. Its going to hurt him in the general, in fact, there was a poll came out that had darth vader with lower negatives than trump. So if he is the republicans nominee, he will be the highest negative generating of any president ial candidate from either party whos been the nominee. Deirdre all right. Now, speaking of branding on your point, a new poll found donald trump tied with the Pope Pope Francis for second place as the most admired man in the u. S. Its worth noting president obama was first. What do you make of that . Im coming back to you, john, because youre making this point about brand. I think the poll is interested from a president ial election at some point. Im not sure its that informative and im not sure trump should take comfort coming in 5 from any poll and i believe hillary for the 20th Straight Year was the top reigning woman. Deirdre okay. , jamie, your take on this poll . Is it take that its kind of just statistics you put out what you get in. Meaning the pollsters can ask a question in a certain way to get an answer they want . Well, i dont know i dont think its that significant as john said. In fact, i think that trump would probably be upset that he only tied the pope. Im sure he thinks he should be much more admired than the pope. But just to johns point because i think its important to push back against this, talking about trumps negative ratings going into a general election. He had the same negative ratings going into the republican primary. And after several months, hes completely reversed them. So i wouldnt be so sure hes not able to do that if he made it to the general election as well. Deirdre all right, jamie, john, thank you so much. Glad to have you both. A quick programming note. Gop president ial candidates governor kasich, dr. Ben carson, both will be joining neil cavuto tomorrow at noontime. You will not want to miss those conversations and a reminder of course the next gop president ial debate january 14th. First of the new year right here on fox business. Activistic Group Anonymous is going from buffeting twitter accounts to stopping a terrorist attack in europe, at least according to the hack activist. And Payton Manning fewerious over reports linking him to a dg this is the one place were not afraid to fail. Some of these experiments may not work. But a few might shape the future. Like turning algae into biofuel. New technology for capturing co2 emissions. And cars twice as efficient as the average car today. Ideas exxonmobil scientists are working on to make energy go further. No matter how many tries it takes. Energy lives here. Deirdre tiffs Group Anonymous is shutting down as many twitter accounts and websites run by isis and sympathizers as many as possible. So the cyber group claims to have stopped a physical attack as well in italy. The social account run by anonymous deleted the tweets on that subject but did post another tweet claiming a video will be released after an operation is completed. It is working to stop other attacks and the final tweet keep calm, it is not over yet. Morgan is with me now, Cyber Security analyst also senior fellow at the center for digital government. So, morgan, what do you make of these hack activists . There are many who is theyre working for the u. S. Government who are completely untrustworthy. Where do you see them as a cyber expert . The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Right now theyre focused on isis, which is good, i spoke to a lot of Law Enforcement when they were exposing a lot of personal information especially after ferguson and some of these other cases. So right now its good theyre focused on isis. Whether or not theyre a benefit or not, history is going to judge. Theyre doing things right now that our government cant do and probably doesnt want to do in terms of taking down social media accounts and websites. So can they do things our government cant do . Yes. Are they being effective . Im not sure and im very skeptical about their claim that theyve stopped a quote actual terrorist attack. Deirdre you are not alone in your skepticism to the point where anonymous has actually put out tweets i want to read them here saying, in fact, that they dont care whether or not its claims are believed. The important thing is that no one died. But i feel as though they would be in a courtroom normally its innocent until proven guilty. They say, well, if no one dies, were behind the no one dying. And thats like saying if theres a cop on every Street Corner the cop prevented the crime. Ive been through that. Heres the deal now, theyre turning into a media beast. And youve seen this with all sorts of news trends that have happened. Theyre getting to the point that they have to keep feeding the legend, so they keep claiming exploits. Whether they happened or not, theyre claiming, hey, we stopped this attack because the absence of the attack you cant prove it, you cant prove that there are men on mars so therefore there are. Were getting to the point where in a true terrorist attack theres usually seven stages from broad target selection to absence on the objective and escape innovation. If theyve really stopped an attack then good for them. I kind of doubt it. They may have disrupted it. Usually to stop an attack, its bombs, bullets, carpet of people. Theyre not capable of doing that. They dont have an air force, they dont have soldiers on the ground. Well have t
