Trumps words coming with these images still fresh in the american minds. Anger and violence at his campaign rally. Today trump warned bad things would happen if he doesnt get the nomination. Gop frontrunner issued this menacing prediction if he doesnt get the nomination at a contested convention. Deirdre trumps Senior Policy Adviser Steven Miller is with me now. Welcome back. Some of trumps language, as you know, is controversial. Karl rove offered advice in an opedstyle piece in the wall street journal. First line was change your tone before you urge your fans to knock the crap out of them, ask yourself if any president would admire your saying that. What do you make of these comments and the criticism that trump seems to be getting from everywhere . Well, deirdre, it is great to be back on with you, first of all. I can just say that were not going to be taking any advice from karl rove, who lets be honest, makes his living now raking in money from large corporations and not interested in the future of the Republican Party. We can set that aside. Mr. Trump was speaking figuratively and i think everybody understand that. What disappoints me is you have people like senator ted cruz, instead of condemning the farleft fascist protests that weve seen trying to disrupt free speech is attacking donald trump. Thats very disappointing. Deirdre all right, i want to get to senator cruz in a little bit, but its linked together to top conservatives who are meeting secretly but the meetings are less secret as time goes on. Media leaks happen. Conservative activist Erick Erickson says republicans should launch a thirdparty candidate as an alternative to trump. Heres his comment. We find donald trump and Hillary Clinton both unacceptable, and want a call for unity taken within the Republican Party now. Have the conservative republican candidates who have dropped out to hold delegates on the first ballot so donald trump cant get to 1237 delegates. In 1860 Abraham Lincoln took three ballots to become the nominee. If he can do it without riots, the other should be able to do it as well. Trump saying it wasnt the elite, wasnt the leaders, the guys knocking on doors for decades. Deirdre steven, when you hear people in the Republican Party talk about finding a thirdparty candidate, i dont know who would be crazy enough do that at this juncture, how does that make you feel, how does that change your strategy . Its ridiculous. But i think most americans reaction, lets be honest. Most americans reaction when they hear Erick Erickson saying that is who is Erick Erickson . Thats what 300 Million People if you ask about Erick Ericksons comments would say. Put that aside. Speaking seriously for the moment. The effort to deny trump the nomination is an effort to deny the American People the ability to control their own economic futures. This isnt just about mr. Trump. Its about the tens of millions of disenfranchised americans who theyre trying to rob of a voice in this election. Deirdre all right, speaking of that. The rnc has made a few different comments. Weve heard from a few different people even within the party. But essentially, giving the idea that perhaps the media has created this perception that the Voters Decide the nomination, heres one comment. Were going to play it for you, stephen. Republican establishment acts bewildered, but they should not be bewildered. As much as they try to distance themselves from trump now, Republican Leaders are responsible for his rise. For eight years they drained all the policy debate in this country by replacing thoughtful engagement with resentment and hatred. I take donald trump very seriously. What he is promoting is a form of hate that is virulent, and that is bad for this country. It is time for all of us to speak out. We cannot have a man like this as a serious candidate for president and have him threatening to take over the white house. Deirdre stephen, i want to get to the rnc in a minute. Obviously, that was not the rnc. That was Elizabeth Warren and before her Senate Minority leader harry reid talking about this kind of moral cowardice on the part of the gop. This goes under the category of donald trump taking hits from everywhere. It goes under the category of people that Republican Voters will never take advice from. Harry reid and Elizabeth Warren. So if harry reid and Elizabeth Warren are saying hey, gop voters dont vote for donald trump, we dont like him. Thats an advertisement for donald trump. The reality is harry reid is terrified of the fact that tens of millions of Republican Voters are going to be energetically going to the polls for donald trump, and tens of millions of democratic voters are defecting from his party to support donald trump. Thats where this is coming from. Deirdre stephen, to your point, we saw in massachusetts, 20,000 democrats actually change parties so they could vote for donald trump. So getting back to the idea of the delegates, the race for the delegates. Donald trump clearly in the lead, but senator cruz says trump will not get all the delegates for the nomination. Heres the senator. If donald continues getting delegates at the same rate he has so far, he wont get to 1237. He needs to get 54 of the remaining delegates to get there. He hasnt been doing that, hes been getting below 50 . Deirdre any truth to the comments . In fairness to our viewers, trump is by far the closest candidate to the magic 1237. Well, we do know that ted cruz was a mock debate champion in law school. But i was not aware he was a mathematician, i dont know about his delegate math. What i do know is weve had contests now in around 30 states and donald trump has won overwhelmingly in those states and ted cruz performed very, very poorly, and has no path to the nomination whatsoever. Whats interesting also is ted cruz is always talking about how he wants this to be a serious race on the issue, yet he never seems to talk about the issues. All he ever says is i can beat donald trump, look at the delegate math, never talk about the issues anymore. Ted cruz is officially running a completely issuesfree campaign combined with occasionally lending aid and comfort to farleft protests. Deirdre stephen, sometimes the hits donald trump takes, people say we like his spirit, we like the tone, but he hasnt offered a lot of details, and cruz is getting support from unlikely sources. Lindsey graham, who weeks ago made a joke saying somebody killed ted cruz in congress, nobody would really move on that, and now hes endorsing him. Does that concern you at all, that cruz is pulling in Party Leaders . It doesnt concern me at all, that lindsey graham, the architect of open borders, the architect of our failed interventionist Foreign Policy is saying he thinks ted cruz should be president. No. That doesnt concern me at all. It should concern ted cruz. Interested to know what ted cruz thinks about the endorsement, but doesnt concern me at all. Deirdre all right, ahead of the convention in cleveland, it was announced recently that Donald Trumps Campaign Manager will also be a delegate. Is that unusual . I dont really pretend to know the history of delegates and the history of the United States, remember, the voters are the ones who cast the votes and the delegates are pledged by the voters. So its much ado about nothing. The voters are the ones who decide where the delegates go and were going to get to 1237. I want to underscore again, in all this talk about trying to stop donald trump, whats really going on here . You have a Political Class that is terrified that the gravy train is going to get shut down. Its been hard out there for americans, everywhere outside the washington, d. C. , but here in d. C. Its pretty good. Here in d. C. , the Political Class is doing wonderful. And theyre worried that if donald trump is president , suddenly, were going to start taking care of the guy who goes to work at a steel mill, not the guy who goes to work at a lobbying firm on k street. Deirdre when people say donald trump as a businessman was part of the system as recently as 12 months ago, as critics point out, he has given money on both sides of the aisle to both types of candidates. How do you answer that one on one . Donald trump, as a businessman was a wildly successful is a wildly successful businessman, owns many of the best, most Iconic Properties in the world. Ted cruz as a politician is a failed politician. You have a successful businessman running against a failed politician. I dont really see that as a difficult contest. And again, if you have all of these establishment people lining up behind ted cruz like lindsey graham, it really tells thought people who want things to stay exactly as they are, are lining up behind ted cruz. Deirdre have you seen some of the pieces that compare donald trump to Andrew Jackson . Im just curious. I have seen some of the pieces. I will tell you this and i dont want to pretend im a historian. What you do see happening here is a forgotten and disenfranchised group of americans getting engaged in the political process because they understand weve been veering dangerously in the direction of an oligarchy. And this really may be a onceinalifetime chance to give everyday people control over their futures again. Turn out millions of people running into the political process for the first time. Stephen, are you surprised that a kremlin spokesperson commented on an American Campaign ad . Not really. I guess people will comment on anything, if you give them the chance. But the ad really shows just how easily donald trump is going to be able to take apart Hillary Clinton in a general election. She is an incredibly weak candidate. She has a failed record as secretary of state that you could just pick apart into a million pieces and donald trump is going to win in a crushing landslide in the general election. And also stephen, i want to stop you there, because both she Hillary Clinton and donald trump have a lot of groundswell support, they both each have very high negatives. More candidate per party than any other candidate. Well, donald trump has been focused on a primary where hes getting attacked, at the beginning, 18 people. You almost needed to get i think we had ran out of podium space on the stage. Remember the early debates . Deirdre yeah, there were 17 or 18 candidates to your point. For the camera to pan from the left to the right took 15 seconds to get to the end of the debate stage. Attacked by 16, 17 people for a few months, its going to have an effect. But in the general election, theres going to be a huge amount of support for donald trump on the issues. Hillary clinton, remember, she is one of the people who helped put together obamas terrible trade deal, the Transpacific Partnership and praised it 50 times. We are going to go into michigan, ohio, pennsylvania, and we are going to win working class voters crushed by the trade deals. Deirdre stephen, since youre talking trade, a lot of people say Donald Trumps plan, this 45 tax, attacking china for currency manipulation, that those moves are not realistic either. If china is engaged in trade cheating, we have two options. Unilateral surrender or protect our economic interests. Weve been trying, weve been executing unilateral surrender. Weve been doing that since 1997. Deirdre youre saying those comments are what he said in other contexts, starting point for negotiation. Right, weve tried unilateral surrender. What happened . We wiped out the middle class. You know who was pushing that . Ted cruz who has fought against our efforts to combat china on currency manipulation. If we dont stand up to china, china is going to continue robbing us of jobs and we wont have a middle class left. You vote for Hillary Clinton or ted cruz, you get more offshoring to china.
