It blanked out screens in the russian government. At first, at least 40 health units and hospitals were hit across britain. 16 hospitals shut down there after computers were invaded by a ransom ware attack. Fedex is among the companies caught in the cyber attack. Now, the hackers appear to have exploited information in leaked nsa documents detailing the gaping holes in Computer Software code around the world. With me now is fox business hillary von. Hillary, whats the latest . Liz, this is new. We just got an update from frances Cyber Security agency. They sent out a security message warning users that any device using windows is vulnerable to this ransom ware attack. But software claims that anyone using the most updated windows system should be protected, as long as they have that antivirus software. Now, Security Experts are calling this growing cyber attack unprecedented and youre right. It has hit us here at home. Fedex confirming their Computer Systems were also targeted by the ransom ware. And u. S. Hospital Officials Say they are monitoring the situation and are on standby ready to respond if the ransom ware attacks their systems. But we are learning more about how hackers were able to gain access to these networks and hijack their Computer Systems. Authorities in europe believe that hackers are using stone u. S. Developed Cyber Weapons to attack their targets. And heres how they think hackers got their hands on them. The hacking tool is included in the online data dump from a group that claimed to publish a number of stolen hacking tools used by the nsa and now authorities believed we are seeing the effects of this leak play out globally. The Cyber Attacks sent 16 hospitals and doctors offices across england into cyber lock down. Emergency rooms throughout england are diverting ambulances and evacuating patients to other facilities, and theyre warning people to stay away from the hospital, unless its an absolute emergency. Doctors are often to use pen and paper while their networks remain down. No Computers Means no records, no prescriptions, no results for patients. Now, heres a screenshot of what hospital employees saw when they went to use their computer. A message popped up on the screen, letting users know their data had been encrypted reading maybe you were busy looking for a way to recover your files. But do not waste time. Nobody can recover your files without our decryption service. The hackers demanding a bitcoin payment within three days. And if they dont get paid, they plan to destroy all hospital data. Now, the former director of operations and intel at the British Intelligence service says hes not surprised by the attack because patient medical data has become the most valuable commodity on the internet. I think there are to be blunt still some real issues with nhs trust Cyber Security, many of them in excess of 40 are operating using windows xp software, which is a Software System that hasnt been supported by microsoft for the last two or three years, which means that theyre no longer the manufacturers are no longer looking for security vulnerabilities and trying to repair them. And british Prime Minister teresa may says theres no evidence at this point that any patient data has actually been accessed. Its just being held hostage. Liz. Liz wow what a story. We are staying on this. Thank you. With more on this cyber attack and how big it could get and if it may impact you at home. Were bringing in Cyber Security expert morgan wright. Morgan, can you tell us how these nsa leaks, basically the information on how to break in, how this led to the cyber attack. Apparently ransom ware attacked all the vehicles out on the belt wave stuck in traffic. This is one of those things to where people want transparency, well, theyve got it now. And what youve got is these tools, most of them come from whats called the tailored access operations part of the nsa. These things were designed for us to break into other country systems and very sophisticated intelligence systems. Now theyre being used against an adversary in a adversarial way. Spitals arent even beginning to defend against us. The bad stuff thats being delivered but the mechanisms that the nsa has developed, these things are bypassing all the security precautions at the hospital. Liz who leaked this nsa code . Who did it . Was it wikileaks . Well, its a shadow broker. So originally what happened was theres an Investigation Underway right now to find out who put this information out there . Was it intentional . Was it unintentional . This information was found on a server facing the internet. And these people including these shadow brokers were able to download all of this information, they tried to auction it off to everybody at one time, they couldnt get that done, so they gave a lot of this information out. This same information is whats being used to construct the weapons that are being used to attack all of these countries and health care facilitate facilities now. Liz if this ransom ware gets into your computer, the hackers will hold hostage your tax documents, possibly, if theyre on your computer. Your photos, video, any personal financial information, youll get a message saying pay us 300 to this bitcoin account in three days. If you dont, it will double, and then they threaten to destroy the data in some instances. Now, britain is saying its hospitals were attacked. We just heard from our reporter that the patient data could be destroyed. How vulnerable, morgan, are u. S. Hospital systems . Liz, im actually in the process of doing a bunch of National Keynotes right now across the United States to hospital and health care associations. Not only are they vulnerable like the previous person from britain was saying, these are the most valuable records on average. The average data breach per record, those records are worth 355 a record. Thats more than anything else out there and so it is vital, you know, that these people protect us. But, look, theyre getting into these systems, theyre holding these things hostage. Hollywood presbyterian was the first hospital to be hit. They ended up paying 17,000 to get their data back. Liz we understand that part of it. The ransom part of it. But were hearing reports that surgeries were even canceled, potentially. Absolutely. Liz in england. I mean, whats the fall out of this . What do these people do with this information, these hackers . Well, its not so much what they do, its what they extort out of you. They dont really want the information as much as they want the money and the fact that this threat is transitioning now from the it environment into the clinical environment and hospitals to where we can now take over mri machines, infusion pumps. I know of specific cases actually happened in the commonwealth of virginia to where medical devices inside the operating room were touched by ransom ware and held hostage. Thats an entirely different. Now Patient Outcomes are different because theyre holding the machine hostage. They dont want the information. They want the money. Liz yeah, thats ratcheting up. Wow. And also medicare fraud. They could commit that as well. Yes. Absolutely. Liz and we heard from Law Enforcement, you know, what about we hate to bring it up but what about terrorists getting their hands on this information . Look, when you Start Talking about the possibilities where this could go, liz, if we start encrypting Sensitive Information and start putting ransom ware on Industrial Control Systems that control power, electricity, water, you know, weve just begin to scratch the surface. Liz, weve been spending billions and billions of dollars the last few years in the name of Cyber Security. It has only gotten worse. Liz people yeah, i hear what youre saying but people out there are thinking, well, you know, you know, this is just stuff you see in the movies. Its not real world stuff. But now we have if he had i can say hit as well. People downplay, well, you only see this kind of stuff in thrillers in the movie theater. So. This isnt science fiction, folks. This is about as real as it gets. You may think, oh, its just pictures and bank account. There are 28 million small businesses. You hit these small businesses, you tie up their financials, you talk about families whose medical records might be impacted, you know, theres a lot of sentimental value to ptures. Its this if they can get into your picture for this, they can get into your computer for other things. And if they think this is where it ends, theyre wrong. This is where it begins. Not where it ends. Liz Cyber Security expert morgan wright. Thank you so much for your time, sir. Appreciate it. You bet. Liz now lets look at Cyber Security stocks. Are they protecting us . Theres mixed action in these stocks. The question is are they effective . Wall street weighing in there. You can see that mixed action on the board. Now, the Trump Administration has been moving. Were onto this story. This obama era quote sauce on crime approach replenishing drug dealers. We have this story for you next. Basically, what theyre saying now in the Trump Administration, we want to throw the book at criminals. Hit them with the most serious charges in the longest sentences. The former obama attorney general eric holder saying this is quote a dumb move. Were going to have Cleveland Police detective steven weighing in next. Dont go away at crowne plaza we know Business Travel isnt just business. Theres this. a bit of this. Why not . Your hotel should make it easy to do all the things you do. Which is what we do. Crowne plaza. Were all business, mostly. Tthats why at comcast,t to be connected 24 7. Were always working to make our services more reliable. With technology that can update itself. And advanced Fiber Network infrastructure. New, more Reliable Equipment for your home. And a new culture built around customer service. It all adds up to our most Reliable Network ever. One that keeps you connected to what matters most. We are seeing an increase in Violent Crime in our cities in baltimore, chicago, ssissippi, milwaukee st. Louis, and others. The murder rate has surged 10 nationwide. The largest increase in murder since 1968. In 2015, more than 52,000 americans died from a drug overdose. The price of heroin is down. Its purity is up, and its availability is up. Lets be clear. We are forcing the laws that congress has passed. That is, both our fundamental mission, and our constitutional duty. I have empowered our prosecutors to charge and pursue the most serious offense. It is simply the right and moral thing to do. Were returning to the enforcement of the law thats passed by congress. If you are a drug trafficker, we will not look the other way. We will not be willfully blind to your misconduct. A kyoto gram of heroin, five kilograms of cocaine, 10,000 kilograms of marijuana. These are not low level offenders. These are drug dealers and you drug dealers are going to prison. Together, we will win this fight. Liz heres a thought for you. Could a crackdown on crime be the economic boom that america really needs . Now, think about it. Experts have also been thinking about this. There have been over 23 million criminal offenses, basically committed every year. Resulting in about 15 billion to 20 billion in economic losses to the victim. On top of the loss of life. And hundreds of billions of dollars in government costs. Now, the Trump Administration moving to undo what critics have called harmful. That is the obama era quote soft on crime approach to punishing criminals, including drug dealers. Attorney general Jeff Sessions releasing a new memo to all 94 u. S. Attorneys today, calling for a reversal of that lenient approach. Organized prosecutors to throw the book at criminals. Demanding they slap suspects with the most serious charges and the longest sentences possible under mandatory guidelines. Weve got Cleveland Police patrolman association. He joins me now. Detective, good to see you, sir. Thank you good to see you too. Liz weve got civil Rights Groups like the aclu saying this will increase civil rights violations, and will just fail, just like the war on drugs. What do you say . Follow the law. Very simple. Follow the law, were a nation of laws, and the laws need to be enforced. Obviously, whats going on in this country has not the last eight years has not been working. So we do need to try Something Different and Law Enforcement i know is all for this. We want to go out and do our jobs. We want to put bad people away. You know, victimless crimes, drug uses of victimless crimes, its nonsense. Every crime in this country leads back in one way, shape, or form to drug abuse. And the drug dealers are the prime leaders of that. Liz yeah, you know, the whole argument of legalizing drugs, well, look. We have legal opioids, and you see that crisis taking hold nationwide. Now, the attorney general to your point, detective, is saying certain cities, st. Louis, chicago, you know, l. A. Theyve seen dramatic increases in crime. 10 spike nationwide in murders. Former bush 41 National Drug control director hes bill bennett, he seems to endorse the Trump Administration move earlier today. I would like your thoughts on this, detective. Lets take a listen. These nonviolent drug offenses. You know what theyre talking about . Theyre talking about drug dealers. Now, you tell me if a drug dealer who sells hundreds of pounds or hundreds of ounces of an illegal drug to young people or to anybody is doing harm to the community. Is doing violence to those people. The answer is yes. Liz do you agree with mr. Bennetts take . Absolutely. Absolutely. This drug users drugaddicted people have a habit sometimes. 100 200 300 a day have it. Theyre gettinthat money somewhere. Theyre going in and breaking in houses, theyre going and robbing people. And right up the line. Right up the food chain, you know . So theres no such thing as a nonviolent drug abuser. Theres just not. Absolutely. The one creating the drug is is the one creating the problem, and were creating victims. The last eight years has the done nothing but create victims. Here in the city of cleveland, we have 139 homicides last year. Were on pace right now for 157. Thats a National Average higher than chicago. We hear a lot about chicago, but its here in cleveland as well. It has to stop. We have to be able to go out and do our job. And there has to be a ramification or has to be a punishment associated with the crime. Liz detective, former obama attorney general eric holder saying this moments ago quote the policy announced today not tough on crime. It is dumb on crime. It is ideologically motivated. It will only be proven to have long sentences and do little to achieve longterm public safety. Your reaction. Well, you know, eric holders not here for a reason. Thats a ridiculous notion. And he is part of the major part of the problem here. Now, we can do things, like i have no problem, if you get a tenyear sentence as a drug dealer or user, and you get treatment, and youre healthy for five years, i have no problem with working Something Like that out. I dont think anybody does. You know, we understand that drug abuse and drug addiction is a sickness, you know . That needs to be treated. Im not saying throw them in the prison and not treat them, you know . Lets get them some treatment, lets get them some help. We can look at it from that aspect too, but you have to get them in there to start with. Liz detective, we have this topic for you. They are calling it. The administration is calling at it largest sweep to date. Immigration enforcement officials arresting over 1,300 its actually nearly 1400 suspected gang members. The biggest sweep of its kind to date. Were talking gang members basically committing murder, drug, and sex trafficking, human smuggling. Detective, why didnt the Obama Administration take swift action like this . I dont know. I cant for the life of me figure that one out. Lawabiding citizens cant figure that one out. Law enforcement officers cant figure that out. The reality is that in those sweeps, they picked up 21 homicide suspects in that, you know . I mean, that is a great six weeks worth of work for the Homeland Security and whoever else was involved in that and, you know, again, we have laws where a nation of laws. All we want liz what was the Obama Administration doing the last eight years . Hugging everybody. Hugging them, saying dont do it again. Patting them on the back, letting people out of jail early, you know . The hug approach doesnt work. If you have a kid that takes a cookie out of a cookie jar, and you say dont do that, the next time she goes to take the cookie out of the cookie jar, shes taking two. But thats what weve done here. We have empowered the criminal element out there by a lack of responsive Law Enforcement. Liz and i have this story for you. An illegal immigrant was deported 15 times. Now arrested for drunk driving and a hitandrun crash that seriously injured a 6yearold boy. Now, the suspect constantine, he faces nearly eight years in prison if convicted. Now, the father ben leak, the father of that
