FBC The Intelligence Report With Trish Regan May 19, 2017

Should point out on our hands. Lets go to the dow which is up 170 points, nasdaq 45 and s p trading up 20. Good times as we head into the weekend. Im trish regan, welcome to the intelligence report. As i said, President Trump he is on his way to saudi arabia. He is hoping to change the narrative during his nineday trip to the middle east and to europe and the question is whether or not he can do it. I mean, can he pivot right now from all the washington turmoil . He probably can. The question is can the media, can they focus on International Diplomacy as opposed to the circus side show, we will have the panel debate, all of that. Plus President Trump says he will be announcing fbi director very soon. The leading contender Joe Lieberman, is he the right pick . We will be asking Mike Huckabee in the house and joins me in a few. First, lets get back to top story. President trump will be embarking on first foreign trip any minute now. I want to go to blake berman with the latest, hi, blake. Blake the president should be leaving any moment now and Andrews Air Force base and 9day trip. Countries visited saudi arabia, israel and then meets with the pope at the vatican, off to brussels with a meeting with nato leaders and off to sicily with meeting in the g7. At the beginning part of this meeting with World Leaders of the three major religions, three of the major religions across the world and after that you have the nato g7 component as well. All nine days. The president will take this trip, though, at least on the beginning portion of it without having officially named an fbi nomination to become the director of that agency. White house officials telling me multiple officials earlier on this day that the decision is not coming on this day from the president. As youll remember yesterday, the president himself had identified Joe Lieberman as leading candidate and said that selection would be coming very soon. We are going to have a director who is going to be outstanding. I will be announcing that director very soon and i look forward to doing it. The people in the fbi have will be very, very thrilled. Blake he didnt necessarily name lieberman as the candidate, however, saying that selection will be very soon, though, it is Senate Democrats who are actually the ones who are putting up a little bit of a fight as it relates to lieberman. Trish, you can probably hear the noise behind me. Ly leave you with the guess as to what that is. The president leaving the white house here momentarily, a site that sight that we see and incredible to see every time. Trish a look at whether or not they can really start to shift the narrative here, american majority ceo nate ryan and pablo manriquez, things are not going well from a pr perspective in this white house right now. They would like to talk about something else, anything else, probably rather than comey. Will journalists start to pick up on this new story . I mean, can he really and truly change the narrative . Of course, he can. One of the most important rules in politics trish glass half full, by the way. I think the trip is going to be a step in the right direction to change the conversation. Of course, i would have liked to see to say, you know what, i think the doj should reopen investigation into Hillary Clintons email server. Trish you would have wanted him to say that . Change the narrative in a dramatic way. Hes going to be president ial and representing the strongest greatest nation in the world, hes going to be communicate to go foreign leaders, its going to be a very president ial thing and i love the fact that this is not going to be some sort of apology either. But we dont know that, trish. Trish one of the questions here, though, the media, lets face it, they love the comey story, they want to continue pounding it, its working for them and ill be honest, i dont think a lot of them feel like talking about middle east policy, its a little too dense for them. Yes, hes over there but are reporters going to start to shift the questions towards policy as opposed to, well, circus . Well, we will see. I think the president has certainly tremendous opportunity here to shed some of the bafoonish caricature the media has been portraying about him. Some people call by another term that he has to answer for. The media thats traveling with him now now has tremendous challenging with him about what theyre going to cover and what questions theyre going to ask. Obviously there are a lot of questions circulating domestically but questions can he recollectulating can he i cant wait to hear what quesons come from the foreign president. He look, to answer your question, i think ned and i will be able to find agreement. If he can get from this trip in one piece, hats off to you, mr. President. Well, first of all, no, i agree with this one. Hes very discipline. Im pretty sure mcmaster, powell, you to stick to the script. Im looking forward to a speech in saudi arabia. I think its be an interesting one about uniting the muslim world against extremism. Trish this is policy shift. Look, barack obama is the one that did the deal with iran. Right. Trish there were some concern that the saudis, which saudi arabia is a complicated place and i know that there are obviously real concerns about the extremism that is even getting bred right there in saudi arabia, but theres a sense that maybe we can work with them whereas iran, it makes it very difficult or challenging, ned, for us to have a relationship with saudi arabia if we have this other relationship with iran. No, exactly. I think what youre going to see from trump is reinforcing relationships. I have my own questions. But i think in this whole situation saudi arabia versus iran, i think youre going see the arms deal, the arms package thats taking place. I think youll see that hes going to talk about the United States actually stepping up and funding some of the middle east security, some of the funds required to keep stability. Trish thats important. When you think about basically the kind of policy that we have employed worldwide in the last eight years, pablo, and it was very isolationist and it didnt work. I think that there was very ttle more isolationist than the ban that happened earlier this year and i think that thats something that hes going to have to answer for, but, look, he gave a speech at Liberty University given that hes now going to give huge and important speech of presidency in riad, the speech in Liberty University did surprise a lot of people. I know a lot of my conservative friends and moderate friends were surprised by how he took a more vulnerable approach, he was more honest, he really spoke from the heart. Now, i dont know if thats necessarily the appropriate tone for a major Foreign Policy speech in a region as the middle east. Trish hang on, guys, we have tape that has just come in, video fed in of the president leaving to trip in saudi arabia. This is a big foreign trip. Hes embarking on as we have stated. This is an opportunity for him to start to shift and change the narrative. Hes there along side his wife Melania Trump and, of course, Vice President pence. The question is whether or not the media will bite on this. I mean, its one thing to go out there and do all this and work yourself actively to change the narrative but its challenging and youre still stuck with the reporters who want to stick to one thing and one thing only and thats the special prosecutors and james comey, et cetera. Go ahead, pablo. I think that having melania with him on the trip is a tremendous asset. I think that everybody can agree doesnt really get it sometime when it comes to washington media like it did with the tabloid media, melania does, she has a lot more like an international sophistication, her being immigrant from another country that, you know, she seems to manage with these things. Trish hey, you know, i love that youre saying about melania because i will tell you i think shes a huge asset and shes always been but shes not someone who necessarily likes the public eye. One can understand specially given how the media is these days, its not fun to have to be out in front. He says this is a witch hunt. Is it, indeed, ned . It absolutely is. Im sorry, but the whole russian collusion is a fairy tale. When you have feinstein saying theres no evidence, you even had Maxine Waters saying theres no evidence of collusion. Trish thats right. Jonathan, all of the wellrespected constitutional legal minds saying, this was not obstruction of justice. Trish why do we have a [inaudible] wait, wait. Theres a special counsel versus special prosecutor. Special counsel can only take two and rob can decide what next steps he will take. I dont like the idea of special counsel at all. At the same time i have heard from a lot of friends in dc who were at doj back in the bush years, they really like mueller. Bob, mueller. Trish hes well respected for sure. On both sides. Trish yes, on both sides. The siller lining on all of this is you need to get all of the clouds out of the way. Im tired of all of the inuendo, its very frustrating and i think its important that we do as a country get our arms around all of this and, you know, this may be very good news for donald trump because he will be able to put it all behind this. Thats what he told judge jeanine. Trish he looks to strengthen ties with the muslim world. The president will be delivering major speech to Muslim Leaders urging we all agree. That does not automatically in and we all want him to be but trish you see this as a test, very important time. Does he read briefing books, is he overconfident, getting control of impulses . They study him. Saudis are going to flatter him and flatter him and promise him the sun and the moon and the stars trish i hear you. These are important questions. I would say, you know, you dont get to be a billionaire by falling for things, so hopefully hes smarter than that. I think he is, colonel peter. I mean, the president hes got great talents but he needs to master selfdiscipline. Israel is not a real problem. Theyll get past that. Trish i have to exercise some too because we have special breaks coming up and we will pay some bills. Colonel peters thanks so much. President trump says hes close to picking an fbi director. A lot of rumors that it may actually be senator Joe Lieberman but lieberman was once a democrat. He ran with al gore in 2000, does this risk politicizing the fbi at a time when its reputation is really struggling . I do want to out you are looking at donald trump and Melania Trump, theres a get ready to take off at joint base andrews and they are going to be heading to saudi arabia, first on the list, a big foreign trip and this is an opportunity to really start to reset things here, the president wants to get control the agenda, the narrative coming out of althe reporters across the globe but specifically here in the u. S. , he obviously has faced an incredibly hostile press corps, this is an opportunity to put Foreign Policy front and center and so the question is, will they bite, certainly pictures like, here we are taking them, every News Organization is taking them so this will start to become the narrative and as ned ryan says, its important that he gets control of all of it. We will talk to governor Mike Huckabee next and we will also talk about Joe Lieberman at the fbi, what does the governor think, hes here, we will see you right after this think your Large Cap Equity Fund has exposure to Energy Infrastructure mlps . Youre looking at a live picture there of air force one which he just boarded with wife melania and theyre embarking on a pretty big trip. First foreign trip. An opportunity to really reset the narrative here and talk about the importance of America First in the global scheme. Joining me right now with thoughts on all of it former arkansas governor and former president ial candidate Mike Huckabee. Good to have you here, governor. Thank you. Trish is he going to be able to reset the tone right now . I think he can. I heard colonel peters. Its a very ambitious trip. To do them all in the same trip plus combining with nato and g7 meeting, its kind of like the mother load, i dont want to make a lot of the trips, i want to make one and make it big. Its big. Whats interesting about it is that hes putting a framework on where the real challenges for the world are because its the conflict between muslim and nonmuslim. Its the conflict between israel and the neighbors that want to destroy it and its also a recognition that christians are being persecuted around the world and murdered and slaughtered in record numbers and i think hes going to be able to address that when hes able to visit with the pope. So this is an extraordinary opportunity for him to sort of turn the lights on, the global stage and say, america is back as a leader, not a followers. Trish live picture coming into air force one. We are waiting for the president to take off. I want to get your story of who is going to be running the fbi, joe ebman is said to be the choice. What are your thoughts on him . Will he be able to do a good job and what do you make of all the democrats saying, no, no, he doesnt have the right pedigree for this . I think the democrats are embarrassing themselves saying that Joe Lieberman would not be acceptable to them. I dont know if its Joe Lieberman, people are assuming that trump himself yesterday said, yeah, hes one of the top, but he didnt say he was the choice, so knowing the president hes very likely to have someone different that nobody is really necessarily thinking of, but if its Joe Lieberman hes going to have, i believe, strong support from republicans and most democrats who despite the pressure from their party to be against him are going to have to look deep in their souls and say, seriously, youre going to ask me to vote against Joe Lieberman, i served with him, i considered him a man of integrity and honor and now suddenly hes not. Trish what is it that they want . I think what they want is donald trump not to be president and they dont care how they get it. Trish matter of are resistance. Its not what they want but what they dont want. Thats what the democrats created for themselves. I think its a losing strategy because ultimately they have nothing to offer america other than we are against donald trump and here is the president , trish, the degree to which donald trump succeeds at creating a Better Business climate, putting people back to work and they have jobs, their resistance is a resistance against the success that hes having. Trish isnt that sad that the sad statement, they should want this economy to do well, for america to do well, but in some ways i think youre right, they dont want it because it means success for him. Let me ask you about your daughter who i thought has done a phenomenal job. Hank you. Trish shes a straight shooter, Sarah Huckabee sanders and talked about potentially taking over podium for the press conferences for sean spicer. Theres a lot of talk and rumors and if sarah knows about that, shes unaware of that, i will put it that way. I dont think anybody has told her that theres going to be this big shakeup in the press operations. Those are leaks coming out of the white house but they havent been confirm today confirmed to her. She likes sean and her job trish she can still work with him but she would be the front person out there. I think she does a very good job. Im her dad, i think shes great. I think shes terrific. Trish you must be so proud. I said that to the viewer the first day she was up there. I was watching you when you said that. Thank you, trish. Old dad is pretty happy here. Trish you bet. But whatever the president chooses to do there, i think its going to be ultimately okay. Trish okay, governor, good to see you. Great to see you. Thank you so much. Trish we will be right back. We asked people to write down the things they love to do most on these balloons. Travel with my daughter. Roller derby. Now give up half of em. Do i have to . This is a tough financial choice we could face when we retire. But, if we start saving even just 1 more of our annual income. We could keep doing all the things we love. Prudential. Bring your challenges. Trish breaking right now the president is getting ready to take off for saudi arabia. The first foreign trip in it as is an ambitious one. We are watching air force one. We will be taken up momentarily. We will continue looking at some of the other news of the day including the white house in the u. S.
