A Clinton Campaign spokesperson fired back at the suggestion today that the state department was linked to multimilliondollar payment saying quote, no one has produced a shred of evidence that Hillary Clinton ever took action asking secretary of state in order to support the interests of donors to the Clinton Foundation. She highlighted changes the foundation announced last week, specifically not accepting money from new foreign governments and reporting quarterly, not annually but, lori, it might not end there. Reuters is reporting that the Clinton Foundation will refile at least five annual tax returns due to errors. Among the errors, according to that report, are three consecutive years when Hillary Clinton was secretary of state in which the foundation reported having received no funds from foreign governments. Gentlemen, great to have you both of you. Senator brown your thoughts to these latest revelations regarding Hillary Clinton clint. What youre seeing now is the intersection of money and politics. As a public official and public figure the Clinton FoundationHillary Clinton and bill clinton, are going to have to make full and open disclosures with regard to their financial interests. I can speak firsthand, i released eight years of tax returns and every little thing that i did was scrutinized, criticized, torn apart. And expect the same thing to happen for somebody who is running for president. And with respect to getting 2. 3 some odd Million Dollars from the russian government, why are they paying the Clinton Foundation that amount of money . It is not because they love, you know, the work that theyre doing. So i think you need to follow the money. I have some very serious doubts. I think its a real problem. Lori fred i would like you to pick up on that. The uranium deal, this situation that weve been reporting on, it is Hillary Clinton signing off on the deal just as the canadian owner gave a generous very generous donation to the Clinton Foundation. Do you think this is just the tip of the iceberg now the clintons having to refile their taxes . For one thing, there are many foreign governments have given money and foreign actors an investors and businessmen and so on given money to the Clinton Foundation. We know that russian donation was not disclosed, publicly disclosed as the Obama Administration required hillary to do. And, obviously the foundation didnt do it. Here is, i think this is the question now. Where is hillary . She is not answering any of these questions. You know lori she hasnt answered any question since she announced her candidacy. Media is focused on scoobydoo van and lunch preferences. Exactly. You know why she is not answering questions. She doesnt have a good answer for any of this. She didnt have a good answer on emails and then deleted emails and so on. What has to come next is Hillary Clinton appearing in public answering the questions from the media, about what went on here. And im not expecting it anytime soon. Lori so, with regard to actually, lets step back. This obviously is going to have well has everybody talking. Outside of impact on Hillary Clinton president ial campaign, are there questions, doesnt it, senator brown raise questions about if she improperly used her position as secretary of state . Are there issues of corruption, bribery questions . What do you think about that . Well, those are things that are going to have to be investigated and that will only be done after full and open disclosure by the Clinton Foundation of monies that they actually received from the foreign governments when they came in and then draw the correlation, to have people actually go and look at what the state Department Actions were on particular issues. Now the russian deal, you know, she will have to ask questions, answer questions about that. And are there other situations like that. Here is the problem. There is a couple of things. Number one there is almost a doublestandard, typical clinton doublestandard between what is good or every other american or every other elected public official and clintons. There is a lack of trust right now between the American People and the clintons because as was referenced by the other guest on there, the emails, the deleting of emails. Now we find out they didnt file their taxes properly, but everybody else has to do it right way, but god forbid they do it, now they have to do it only reason theyre doing it is because they got caught. Lori right. So it is doublestandard. They need to step up. Lori so as far as the campaign and implications, do you think that voters, fred, are jaded, as i said . Clinton scandal de jure were talking about all of them. Do you think this could sort of have reverse reaction where voters start to sympathize with clintons . No not this time. I think, if republicans were ganging up on her pounding her unfairly there would be but not on this. Because hillary is obviously in hiding. Clinton strategy, they have a classic strategy. One, they try to drag it out for a long time without answering anything, just drag it out, hope the press will get tired of it and move on to Something Else again. Then they like to demonize their accuser. So i think peter schweizer, the author of this book bull a the donations to the clinton founddation will go after him personally. Go ahead. Lori fred, interesting your strategy mentioning dealing with the questions and how they conduct business and campaign, Chelsea Clinton speaking publicly about the foundation promising continued transparency . Is that game changer in terms of their strategy . Bringing her out. She used to be hands off with the press. The press couldnt go there ever. Does that change things now . She is in lieu of her mother and father. That is why she is there. She can say, well i dont know anything about these contributions to the foundation. And, their legality and whether they were publicly released or not. She can play as if she was not involved in that. Maybe she wasnt, i dont know. But they dont want to put hillary out there because there is not a good answer for this. Lori so all of this has actually had impact on the polls, for hillary and her popularity. She has drop ad few notches. But in the same poll, interesting marco rubio, senator from florida, actually showing some strength. He is at this point the standout republican candidate. What are your thoughts on rubio coming out of this poll ahead that to you senator brown . Well, first of all i met i know marco. I served with him. He is one of the nicest, honest hardworking men i ever met. He was always prepared, very diligent. I got to speak this weekend at gop summit in new hampshire. Listened to him speak. I thought his presentation and his points were very welltaken very wellreceived. I think, you know he is had a flawless rollout so far. The others could learn i think from what he is doing. Drawing the contrasts between the old and the new, i. E. , Hillary Clinton, or potentially jeb bush and him and the new breed of republicans i think is working. So it is early. But, if you look what is happening with secretary clinton, and the lax of disclosure, the intersection of money and politics, the kind of aloofness when it comes to dealing with the average american what theyre going through versus what marco rubio has gone through basically coming from nothing. He hand his family struggling. Now he is a United States senator and leader of our party. Has a very, very bright future. Lori in a way he is biting hand that fed him considering governor jeb bush. Fred youre misinterpreted that. What is shows is that marco rubio is very bold. Lori yeah. Many solve these other senators like ted cruz and rand paul their fall back position, hey i dont win the republican nomination i will be in the senate. Marco rubio, in his quest for the presidency is giving up his senate seat. He would have to be running for reelection in 2016. Very bold step. Lori are you getting any answers, anymore details as to how this was left to linger for so long, for more than a year . Well, this is not, unfortunately an isolated incident. The secret service is having problems with its technology with various former president s residences. This is the no the only one. Weve known about this more month for months now. Didnt feel free and comfortable to talk about. Given they have rectified it. There is no good excuse. They dont lack budget. The technology is there. They had to add extra personnel to secure the president. There were no breaches fortunately. But should never have that degree of vulnerability. Should never be there. Lori jay johnson, Homeland Security as well as director of secret service acknowledged report and need to upgrade Technology Even from this point. So to your earlier point, are the resources there . Youre confident the resources are there to make the necessary upgrades . Not just for the residences but for the white house itself . They had millions of dollars in backlog that do again think they have rectified at the former president s home.
