Republican president richard nixon. Why did he resign . Because republicans gave him no option. I have come to the conclusion that richard m. Nixon has Beyond A Reasonable Doubt committed impeachable offenses which are in my judgment of such sufficient magnitude that he should be removed from office. Brian thats a republican. And it was a majority. Bill clinton, the Monica Lewinsky link was revealed bit new york times. The Washington Post aggressively pursued the Hillary Clinton email scandal. But somewhere along the way Media Companies lost their way and accountability and transparency. The only thing they could rally around was everything donald trump did was wrong. The latest example. Maralago. We begin this hour with one word. Unprecedented. Today we are in uncharted territory. The fbi search at maralago has no parallel in american history. Nothing like this has ever happened before and we dont know how this ends. Brian i do. His political rival President Biden didnt miss the opportunity to pile on. When you saw the photograph of the top secret documents laid out on the floor at ml already, what did you think of yourself looking at that image. How that could possibly happen. How anyone could be that irresponsible. Brian but man have things changed. Merrick garland assigned a u. S. Attorney in chicago to review potential classified documents found at the Pennbiden Center for diplomacy. This is the biggest challenge to date for President Biden and the backside covering press. Surprisingly so far kind of yes. It sounds like he was implying because the garage was a safe place for his car, the documents were safe. And therefore it was safe for the car, so it was safe for the documents. Is that what he meant . I am going to leave his statement as is. Your colleague was has a back and forth with the president. He was surprised that the records were there. Around december 20, why was it not immediately addressed . We have been transparent here. Brian we have to make a decision as a country. Should we put all our documents here this corvette . The news was even broken by cbs and nbc. Both well known for ignoring these types of stories of late. Is the Document Discovery changing the press or is it that they had no choice. Is the press unbroken . No. But this is a story they have got to cover. Part of what we need to know about this, i read this morning cbs knew about this last fall, and they asked the white house about it pretty close to the time that the president was notified about it. And they got no answers. One of the things the media are dealing with here, they recognize its a real story and they have been stiff armed by the white house. I dont think it does any good for the White House Press secretary to handle the press corps the way she is handling it there. She should say im not going to comment on it but somebody else where will, or she ought to comment on it. She is the official Press Secretary for the president of the united states. Brian when you were in the white house you had to watch your words. I get it. They have to be smart, but they also have to get briefed. I get the sense that she doesnt know and isnt making the calls to find out. The president s head goes down to the printed word. Not confident it enough to talk his way through this without getting himself into legal jeopardy. Part of the problem is the president himself. How did he characterize President Trump taking documents to maralago . In that september interview with scott pelly of 60 minutes he goes out of his way to take the 2x4 to trump. He didnt apparently remember he had classified documents. But ehud have said thats in the hands of the Department Of Justice so im going to leave it alone. But the Political Animal in him said i have to take a 2x4 to trump. Brian a lot of people think some of these documents could lead to links to china. 54 million into the University Of Pennsylvania. A spokesman said the Pennbiden Center did not solicit donations from china. Thats not the question. But did they take the money and use it to underwrite the Pennbiden Center in washington, d. C. Brian they went through the laptop when this story broke. This is a communication they found. The message from the professor begins this way. I am writing to invite you to take part in a major conference in china at the end of march. I have been asked to help recruit a prominent young leader. They the Chinese Government will fly you Business Class and provide all your accommodations. I dont think it will surprise you they are underred in you thanks to your family name. I wouldnt take offense at that. Thats the chinese way. And better you and that dolt tiffany trump. I think this will be a side issue. It may not have legal implications but well be interested in finding out were chinese fund used to underwrite the biden center. Was there discussion between the University Of Pennsylvania and their chinese benefactors about the money going to support the former Vice President of the united states. The its a play where he can bring the writers and researchers who were going to write his memoir. Were these classified documents where he was in charge of u. S. Government efforts to discourage corruption in ukraine. Were those documents used to write his book . Was there a direct line between china and the Pennbiden Center with officials raising money from china to under write vice President Bidens retirement. Brian thank you very much. Dont forget to dvr one nation every Saturday Night at 8 00. Are coworkers getting less and less ambitious . How do we fix it. Well have a billionaire investor, david rube instein. Today when you have 10 Million People out of the workforce. Thats almost unbelievable. When they go out of business and jobs disappear all together, and we are in bad shape. People are used to not working. They are getting so much money, why work . It doesnt pay. Brian thats the former ceo of home depot. Can Corporate America compete with other companies around the world with culture wars take over and they dont want to work . Starbucks and disney saying get back to work. Joining the ranks of other companies saying get back to the office. Sheer is jamie dimon. You cant learn from people having innovation and responsibility and decision making, the collaboration and making friendships at home on zoom. Brian here with me to share his two cents is david ruben. David, thanks so much for joining me. I know usually on the other side you are doing a lot of interviewing these days. Are you equally concerned about the American Work ethic . We clearly need to get back back to work. If you are an employer and you are trying to get employees to come in, at certain levels its tougher. Younger employees are not as available as we would like. People my age are retiring earlier. Brian 36 of people surveyed said they are less ambitious. 44 said they think work is less important. Is that balance or is that bad. Its not a great thing. But if you try to get a business off the ground and you are trying to build something, you always fine competition. Clearly some younger people are less motivated than they might have been before covid. Brian you talked to Sam Bankmanfried when he was riding relatively high as one of the most successful people in the world, we thought. Here is a little bit of that interview. You bailed out some companies. What money did you use to do that . There were a few different versions of it. One was the ftx balance sheet, our corporate cash. We rated a few billion dollars the last couple years, and we are a profitable business. We also did some acquisitions. We had some cash left and with the block buy. Brian did you sense something was wrong there . It was an unusual interview. I never interviewed somebody who came in a tshirt, shorts and tennis shoes. I suspect that a lot of people will be going to jail eventually because of this. Brian in terms of philanthropy, you said when your mom passed away and you were going through her stuff because you were an only child. The clips you found were about the money you gave away. My mother didnt have a lot of money. And she was susceptible to anybody sending a letter saying send me 5 or 10. After she passed away, i got letters from people who said she gave, 5, or 10, and they asked if i can repeat that. Brian what does it do for to you give away money like that. I gave away a large sum of my money. This country has been good for me and i want to give away money in ways that make sense. Next, is it one Nation History lessons, we look back at The Life And Times of Martin Luther king, jr. We have the key to happiness. Its not money or financial status. Its what you are doing that you are passionate about. As long as you are living your life and doing what you love, thats all that matters. Brian in a couple days cities across this country will commemorate the life and legacy of Martin Luther king, jr. How did he become such an historic leader . January 15, 1929, Michael Luther king, jr. Was born in atlanta, georgia. Five years later his father a obama test pastor was inspired by Martin Luther, king, southwaseniorchanged his name as sons. He attended moore house college. He struggled with one class. Public speak. He finished with a Doctorate Degree at Boston University in 1955. He became the pastor of the Baptist Church in montgomery, alabama. He helped put together the boycott of city buses after rosa parks refused to give up her seat to a white house. The Supreme Court later rules discrimination in Public Transportation was unconstitutional. At 25 he became the youngest man to receive the nobel peace price. In 1968 king was assassinated. He was 39 years old. His powerful message continues to live around the world as we celebrate his legacy. Lets talk about it. Former naacp president along with charles love. Welcome, guys. Ben, what are you going to be thinking about monday . I want people to remember that he died leading a campaign to help poor people across the lines that were used to divide us. His point was that the purpose of racism was to divide groups and folks needed to come together if they were going to make sure kids went to a better school, that they got paid a fair days wage. What do you think he would say if he were here. Its hard to say what he would say. But we are making a lot of progress and we have mere to do. What he would like to be reflecting on, one, the fact that we have come a throng way and Pay Attention to where we have been and what that fight is. And to come from a positive place. There is joy in all this history. You talk in that package about him being born. His far it and grandfather being college graduates. To assume everything about being black in america as negative is wrong. In my book i talk about my grandmother who went through the whole civil rights movements. She he said pessimists are often right more often but optimists win more often. If you go in the rink and have a point optimism, a better chance of winning the match. Brian you can weave in berke t. Washington. When people look back and see white only Water Fountains and hotels you cant go in if you are black. Thats in our past, we should know it. But did that show us how much progress we made. Thats the problem they dont talk about enough. If you are going to say look whats happening today, thats totally fine. But when you say we are living in jim crow 2. 0. For whatever reason. When i think of a 2. 0. I think of a stronger version. You are implying what we are dealing with today is worse than those things you just pointed out. Its important that we stop for a moment and listen to each other in politics like we do in our communities and congress re gaitions. It usually communities and congregations. I was the third person in the room saying how do we shrink georgias prison system. Nathans son was a Supreme Court judge. You have a democrat and republican coming together. The naacp, we ended up with the support of the tea party. Brian somehow its got to get across. All of our country. You are an american. Lets make the country better. Have we lost that. We definitely lost it. And it got far worse than it should have. We are still in it. Ben and i were talking earlier. At some point regardless of your politics or beliefs. You will want breakfast, and the people cook it and the people driving you and the people you work with will be conservative, liberal, democrat and republican. You cant create a country where we split just according to what we believe. I want people to have a sense of hope that we can make it together. The progress i talk about in my book, its following general powells advice. Icomedian Rob Schneider risked t all against what he calls the delusional democratic party.
