Were going to ask dr. Janette nesheiwat when she joins us live. Audible is my roadtrip companion. Its kind of my quiet, alone time. Audible is a routine for me. Rob as we ease up on social distancing measures and economies begin to very carefully reopen, we are at risk of recurrence or respikes in the illness and the epidemic. So i think Everyone Needs to be aware that even as were beginning to open up again, there is a clear chance of a rise in cases in states that are doing that. Rob states across the country loosening restrictions on stay at home orders as some medical professionals argue that self quarantines are doing more harm than good. Jillian as the United States gets closer to 1 million cases of covid19, are we moving too quickly. Joining us now is fox news medical contributor, dr. Janette nesheiwat. Good to see you, doctor. Good to see you too. Jillian you can see the arguments on both sides. The images that stick out in my mind, we saw beaches in california that appear to be pretty packed. Do you think were moving too quickly in some areas . Are you concerned at all . Yes have to follow the guidelines of six to 10 feet social distancing so we dont spread the virus. But what it comes down to is looking at areas of outbreak, what is it like in your community . Not every state is going to have the same opening, if you will. Theyre going to be different. Some states will open up sooner than later many its a matter of looking at the data, see whats going on in your community and following the guidelines. California, theyre following the 14 day, looking for a 14 day trajectory of downward cases so they can open up more quickly than, for example, georgia, who opened up sooner than recommended by the cdc. But we have to take it day by day and look at the number of cases and follow the data. Rob heres a doctor with a very unique perspective on how to handle this pandemic. Lets listen. By having total population isolation, we are preventing Natural Immunity. We want this population immunity which breaks the chain of infection by virtue of people having their own antibodies, their own immunity. Rob so doctor, going the other way, hes saying lets get the herd immunity, lets get to 60, 70 of us having it and then the virus will naturally die, what do you say . I understand his point. But achieving herd immunity you need from 60 to 90 of the population to have immunity either via vaccination or being infected and thats the problem. We are nowhere near herd immunity. On top of that, we have over 50,000 deaths in this country in just one month. Are we going to let grandma, grandpa, people with underlying immune disease and not just older people, anyone with comorbidities rob i want to ask this question. What about hiding the people that are most at risk, keep them in quarantine. We know who will get this thing the worst. We keep them hidden away, let everyone else go out and do herd immunity, does that work . Absolutely, rob. Thats why we have to find a balance and open up the economy in phases. Once you meet the criteria of a 14 day trajectory in cases then we move to phase one. Phase one includes the vulnerable still will shelter at home but everyone else as long as they are low risk can go out and do their normal daily activities, but still not engage in groups of more than 10 people, still do six to 10 feet social distancing, wear a mask we have to find a balance and open up showily and smartly. Jillian if i can play devils advocate. Our Nursing Homes have been hit really hard by all of this. Thats where a lot of the vulnerable are. If youre protecting the have your nearable in the nursing vulnerable in the Nursing Homes, yet the people working a there n go out, cant just as easily get to the vulnerable population . Yes, absolutely, 100 correct, jillian. Thats why we need resources and funding to places where theres high areas of outbreaks, Nursing Homes, underserved populations. You need to make sure every employee that goes into a facility, their temperature is checked, maybe it would be a good idea to have routine testing, once a week, to monitor what is the plan and the protocol for that nursing facility to have to send someone out, one of their employees out for testing. They need to be closely monitored. We have to protect the vulnerable. Youre 100 correct about that. Rob lets talk about Contact Tracing for a second. This is the big new topic, everybody says were going to need this to get back to any kind of normal. It seems like a big job, trying to Contact Trace a country this big. What do you say. Yeah, it is, very tedious, very timeconsuming but it can be lifesaving. The purpose is to track down anybody who is infected with coronavirus, we want to track down who they came in contact with, 48 hours prior to that persons symptoms. Remember, you can be asymptomatic as well. Thats why they want to go 48 hours. What happens is a person gets a phone call, theyre inform theyre positive and then the investigator will ask them who have you been associating with in the past few days or so and then 10 people or so, usually about 10 people they are called and they are informed that they were exposed. And they are advised that they should self isolate for 14 days and they are also asked, do you have any symptoms and theyre told what to do if you do have any symptoms, where to go if you need testing and theyre asked do you have a place to self isolate, do you need anything, do you have all the resources and the Contact Tracer will check in on them during that 14 day quarantine to see how theyre doing. Its an excellent program. Its a critical tool in helping to prevent the spread of the virus until were able to get a vaccine and medication. Jillian dr. Nesheiwat, thank you for joining us. Starting today, more states will be easing coronavirus related restrictions with more to come by weeks end and as the country begins its recovery process, Congress Bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus is sharing their ideal approach with the white house. How this caucus thinks it should reopen. They say the key to reopening is more testing. Here to tell us more about the back to work plan is congressman dave joyce. Thanks for coming on today. We appreciate it. Tell us a little about what the problem solvers see as the best way to go forward. Thank you for having me on. One of the most important things we were talking about is the idea you have both a twoheaded monster here, the pandemic has created the physical problem, the illness, and its also created an economic crisis. We want to make sure we come back out in a safe manner and get to the things that states need to make a state by state choice on what theyre going to do and how theyre going to go about that. Testing obviously is key to that because we cant get enough testing to everybody to every state to be able to test as many people as necessary. Rob well, youre from the state of ohio. Ohios going to be slowly reopening this week. Theres a few states on the list. Do you think ohio is prepared for that . Youve got big cities like cleveland and cincinnati. Do you guys have what you need to start reopening now . Yes, governor dewine has done a great job of initially slowing down and stopping the economy here and because i didnt realize it until the time, we have the sixth largest senior population if the state of ohio. If you listen to his daily newscast over the last couple weeks, hes slowly been telling you the program for bringing the state out. As you mentioned, the big cities got hit worse than other areas of the state. So you have that problem where initially you have to scare people enough to make sure they follow through and stay home and to stop the spread and now you have to do kind of discuss the ways to come out solel slowd youve got to make sure you do it in a way that people are safe and secure, yet be able to get the economy back to work. Rob lets take a look at the testing breakdown. Theres 1. 5 to 2 million tests conducted every week in this country. We keep hearing the number needs to go up. Your caucus and your checklist to recovering and getting
