Allison barber joins us from the white house with this breaking news. Did guliani say anything else about this inform plant . He said he spoke with President Trump last night and this morning. He says he spoke about the situation with the fbi informant. Guliani is telling us that he wants to conduct a confidential interview with this informant and he thinks that a president special council interview should be contingent him getting to talk with this informant. He said he needs to talk to the informant so he knows what information that informant told special council mueller. Rick. Rick the president has plenty to say on this topic. Reporter some of this started last night when President Trump tweeted and called on the department of justice to release documents related to this informant. He said that in order to find conclusive answers and information on what actually happened here, that those documents needed to be reviewed and released. He is now saying that hes going to make an official demand tomorrow, tweeting i hereby demand and will do so officially tomorrow that the department of justice look into whether or not the fbi doj infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for political purposes and if any such demands or requests were made by people within the obama administration. When reports surfaced about a secret fbi informant, the president suggested the informant was a spy and possibly there for political reasons. The New York Times is reporting the fbi sent an informant to talk to two campaign advisor, but, quote, only after they received evidence that the pair had suspicious contacts linked to russia during the campaign. Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee as well as some of the Senate Judiciary it committee are saying they have many questions they want answered in regard to this. The top democrat on the House Intelligence Committee is saying all of this and the president sal lee gas stations in president sal lee gas ga n particular are ridiculous. I want to make sure the fbi and department of justice did not try to change the outcome of election. What they would like this information for is to be of service to the Trump Defense team and further any narrative they have. This is part of a string of meritless allegations from the very beginning. Reporter the doj released a statement moments ago. It says, quote, the department has asked the Inspector General to expand the ongoing review of the fisa application process to include determining whether there was any impropriety or political motivation in how the fbi conducted its counterintelligence investigation of persons suspected of involvement with the russian agents who interfered in the 2016 election. The Deputy Attorney general issuing a statement saying, quote, if anyone did infiltrate or surveil participants in a President Campaign for inappropriate purposes, we need to know about it and take appropriate access. We reached out to the white house. So far, we havent heard back. Rick we need to know what that appropriate action will be. Allison, thank you very much. This is a pretty significant development, is it not, that that Robert Mueller telling rudy guliani he will finish this investigation by september 1s september 1st. Absolutely. Its significant for both sides. Its significant for the investigation and its certainly significant for President Trump and the white house. It would be positive of course for President Trump and the white house going into the midterm hel elections in novemo have this behind them and as far as the investigation itself, clearly according to guliani its contingent on them getting access to the president and having an interview with him and thats something that theyve been seeking. So there could be a winwin for both sides but certainly very interesting that they are willing to say we could get this all done by september if you give us time with the president. Rick it sounds like they will get time with the president based on what rudy guliani is saying, although he is on record cautioning against mr. Trump speaking with mueller unless and until they know more about this mole that weve been talking about, suggesting that the president might be walking into a trap. What do you think about that . Sure, guliani has certainly set conditions of his own for giving the investigators access to President Trump. But i agree with you, that its sort of a bit of a departure from the words that weve heard from him so far, suggesting now that it seems more likely that he will sit down or will give the president will sit down with Robert Muellers team. So the lawyers who are add a adg President Trump have to weigh the pros and cons of doing that. Perhaps one of the bigger pros that they see is the fact that that might be takee et to getting this finished by early fall. Rick the president complained this was a witch hunt. Does the presence of a mole support his argument in. I think that thats an argument he would make if that is proven to be the case and thats something that obviously guliani addressed as well and President Trump addressed on twitter earlier today, thats something theyll be hammering on for sure and thats also one of the conditions that the former mayor has set for giving access to the president. Rick the Trump Team Knows who this guy is. Were not releasing his name. They know who he is. How concerned do you think they are about this . Its hard for me to gauge that. The fact that they want access to this alleged mole to find out what he said about the president suggests that they dont know what he may have said or shared, so that perhaps is something theyre really concerned about. Perhaps its not. But its clearly something they see as a bit of a bargaining chip. Rick we saw the president s tweet calling for an investigation of the fbi and doj. Rudy guliani said there should be a criminal investigation for james comey for perjury, in part related to what the mole said and when james comey said the investigation started but apparently with this mole talking to someone before that date, it suggests that perhaps the investigation was started far before that. Well, it plays into certainly President Trumps long now sort of documented skepticism about thfbi in general. Hes been critical of the fbi since coming into office and before for the way it handled the investigation into Hillary Clinton and her emails and this for the president , i think for the people who support him, is further evidence that they havent treated him fairly. That said, the counter argument to that is that the whoever this gentleman is, the alleged mole didnt do anything he wasnt supposed to do and that the fbi has been conducting the investigation in the way that it is has a mandate to do. Rick this interview would be critical, not just for the investigation but for the white house and we know that theyre preparing for a lot of other things including the summit with north korea and say theyre trying to prep for a meeting with Robert Mueller would be a distraction. Is that part of the reason theyre looking for an Independence Day time line for the sitdown . Thats right. President trump is juggling a lot of things right now, one of which you mentioned, is this potential summit with kim jong un in early june. If that doesnt get canceled. But assuming it does go ahead, theres a lot of preparation thats required to go to that. That will be a historic meeting the north Korean Leader and the president , if he does have a sitdown with Robert Muellers team would absolutely need to prepare for that. Theres a lot of things that he would have to go through with his counsel and so that makes sense really that guliani has said this was something that would happen maybe around july 4th to make sure that its after that summit and gives the appropriate time and enough time for the president and his advice re advisors to prepar. Rick one of the arguments weve heard is this could be a breach of the campaigns private communications, thats what rudy guliani is suggesting. And again, if thats indeed what happened, im sure those are questions that they will ask and i cant address that myself, not having any intel into what happened there but im sure thats something that the president s team will be pushing for information about. Rick im wondering if there is buzz down there about Something Else that was that surfaced today. Some Republican Leaders are demanding records from the Justice Department about the mole and other aspects of the investigation and representative devin nunes threatened to hold Jeff Sessions in contempt of congress if he doesnt pony up that information. Yeah, what i think is interesting about that, and President Trump has also weighed in and supported that request, that just shows, again, the increased tension between now both the administration or the white house, President Trump, and his attorney general and some members of congress. Rick some people may forget that bob mueller is actually a republican and Rod Rosenstein his appointment came from this president. Does that matter at this point . I think it does matter. I think it matters because of the context. The president frequently when describing this investigation as a witch hunt criticizes the makeup of the mueller team as saying that theyre biased to democrats. Its very important i think for people to remember that mueller is in fact a republican and that rosenstein was appointed under President Trumps watch. Rick the headline here, jeff, is that this Mueller Investigation could wrap up by september 1st and im guessing down there on capitol hill thats all anyone is talking about tonight. Youve seen in recent weeks in particular people from the president down to Vice President pence, down further than that, really pressuring mueller and his team to wrap up this investigation and this is the first sign that the mueller folks have given via of course rudy guliani who shared it with the world, that they might be able to do that. Reporter chilling information, frankly, more students are starting to open up about the horrors that they witnessed and heard inside of that school during the attack which lasted a little more than 30 minutes. Can you imagine . It was primarily contained to the schools art complex but multiple accounts now saying that the teen mocked and taunted his victims, yelling surprise, cheering at times. One girl described hiding in a classroom closet, cell phones ringing all around her, likely worried parents trying to reach their kids.
