Surpass 2 trillion. This as states ramp up emergency measures to try to stop the spread of coronavirus. So far more than 195,000 americans have been tested. Fox news has you covered on all angles beginning with Mark Meredith live from the white house. Reporter more and more americans are being tested, but the administration also says the risk for most americans of serious illness remains low. The administration facing several different questions though about what can be done to make sure american hospitals and doctors have what they need. The Administration Says its placed an order for millions more n95 masks, the requests are widespread. Requests for masks, ppes, swab sets, test site supports, ventilators, Hospital Capacity assessments and many more. We are in lock step with hhs to answer these requests, but we will do whatever is necessary to get states, territories and others what they need. Reporter the white house praising companies that have been offering to help including apple, this is a tweet from the ceo of aping, quote apple were donating millions of masks to heroes on the front lines. We thank you. If meantime, across the country weve seen states like ill, california and new york require residents to stay home unless its essential to go out. We asked the president whether or not a National Curfew is coming, he insists it is not. You know, states where they have two people or three people, and those people are in quarantine. And you cant put on them what youre putting in new york where you do have a tremendous problem. We have large portions of the country, Middle America, where, you know, they have a few people. So maybe a time, i hope that never happens, where we need to take very drastic action. But right now thats not in the same ballpark. Reporter the administration has rolled out a number of measures to help people impacted by the virus including extending the tax deadline, suspending foreclosures and evictions for some, standardized testing requirements being waive for school kids and student loan payments being waived for 60 days, for federal Student Loans, ish say. The aid package could cost well over 1 trillion. We expect more details possibly tonight. We asked President Trump today what workers should do right now if theyre worried about losing their jobs or may have lost their jobs. This is what the president has to say. Well, what they do right now is keep receiving their paycheck and, hopefully, their companies are going to be in very strong position. We want to keep everything together because we think were going to have a tremendous bounceback. Reporter its unclear when that bounceback may happen. Also we should mention that the Vice President says he and his wife are being tested for covid19 after a member of his staff tested positive. That staff member, though, said to be doing well. The Vice President and president making clear they feel fine right now. Jon . Jon Mark Meredith, thanks. Meanwhile, the number of covid19 cases in the u. S. Rapidly increasing as Many Americans are getting swabbed now after the fbi fda, i should say, authorized the first rapid point of care tests that deliver results in less than an hour. This all comes as President Trump says a potential coronavirus treatment could very soon be made available to the public. Steve harrigan is live outside the cdc headquarters in atlanta with more. Steve . Reporter jon, in a short term with dramatically increased testing, certainly there has been a spike in the number of confirmed cases, another 8,1 is 30 in the past 24 hours. Thats a spike in one day of about 50 . In the meantime, as you mentioned, the fda approving for the first time a pointofcare test for the coronavirus. It comes from a California Company. Theyve come up with the goods, the test results actually take about 45 minutes. This test really changes dynamics greatly. Before the test could have to take 12 days getting sent off to a central lab. The California Company also says this system requires no special training, and it can run for 24 hours, around the clock, so it could give near immediate results to both patients and caretakers to enable them to make quick decisions. The tests are expected to begin shipping next week. Jon, back to you. Jon steve harrigan, thank you. New jersey increasing restrictions on its residents, ordering them to stay at home unless absolutely necessary. This after the governors of four other states issued similar orders to spread the slow slow the spread of coronavirus. Alex hogan is at the Jacob Javits Convention center in new york city with more. Reporter jon, new york state has more than ten times more than any other state in terms of the number of cases that were seeing, and 60 of those cases are here in the city. Now, the governor announcing some new locations of field hospitals, the Javits Center behind me just the latest of places where patients will begin to come as we see this backlog in the Health Care System. As businesses continue to slow down, some of these centers will open up. Again, four centers weve learned will be temporary hospitals. Each of these four centers will house up to 250 patients. Some hospitals already seeing mass shortages of medical supplies and masks and the governor calling this a statewide shortage. We are going to send one million n95 masks to new york city today. Thats been a priority for new york city. We are literally scouring the globe looking for medical supplies. Reporter new yorks grown increasingly quiet which will only increase tomorrow. New rules also go into effect in new york starting at 8 p. M. On sunday. Law enforcement will make sure people stay at least 6 feet apart in public spaces like Grocery Stores, far says and parks. And pharmacies and parks. And starting tomorrow everyone is ordered to stay home except for health care, Law Enforcement and security, manufacturing of retail goods like food and pharmaceuticals, journalism, construction and infrastructure, shelters and childcare facilities and finance. New jerseys governor, phil murphy, siting a sum executive order for his state starting at 9 p. M. Tonight, people must stay home. This, of course, throughout the country allows people to go outside to get groceries, Food Pharmacy items and, of course, to exercise. Other states in the northeast closing down nonessential businesses too but, of course, not all of them creating these kinds of restrictions. As businesses slow down, testing only continues to ramp up here and around the country. Vice president pence saying 195,000 people have been tested. New york has performed more than 45,000 tests, thats more than china or south korea, and that is according to the governor. And compared to initial thoughts this really only was affecting the older population, were learning that 54 of the cases that were seen here in new york are people between the ages of 1849. Jon . Jon alex hogan, thank you. Overseas, italy seeing another massoff spike in causes massive spike. Hospitals there are reeling under the immense caseload as the pandemic pushes that countrys Health Care System to its breaking point. Amy kellogg is in florence, italy, with the latest. Reporter jon, it was a bad day for the numbers here in italy, but that said, a record was set in terms of the number of patients cured, and that was over 900 people. But nearly another 800 died, nearly another 5,000 Coronavirus Infections are registered, and that brings the total of infections reported since the beginning of this pandemic to over 53,000. Now, the Global Response has been interesting. Europe hasnt been willing or able to do much as they face their own imminent crisis. But on top of a lot of chinese help thats been coming to italy, cuba is sending 22 doctors who will land here tomorrow. The Nurses Federation put out an appeal earlier this week. There is no more time, they said, we have no more beds, there are too few of us, too few hospitals. We are alone. Meanwhile, hospitals struggle to keep up with the flow of patients. And the mayor said a rather scary thing which is he thinks a lot of elderly people are dying at home or hospices of coronavirus, and yet no one is calling them or bothering to test them for it. So the numbers of registered covid19 deaths may be lower than the actual truth. Here was one of the doctors describing the stress. [speaking italian] it is a sue tsunami. And we are here 12 hours a day, only we are to home for a few hours and come back here for work. Because we are here for the patients. Reporter while the mayor actually thinks that the number of patients dying may be far greater of this disease, there are medical professionals who say that the numbers are are skewed in the other direction, that a lot of people are dying with covid19, not because of it. They already have two or three other Health Conditions at the same time and are in a very advanced stage of life. Finally, while italy struggles to take care of its own needs, it did manage to send out two planeloads of its swabs this week test swabs this week, about a million, because theyre produced here, and they claim that they have enough to go around, jon. Jon amy kellogg, thank you. Air raid sirens echoing across jordans capital to mark the start of a nationwide threeday curfew. [background sounds] jon this is the latest mass lockdown in the middle east aimed at containing the coronavirus. Ing Ryan Chilcote has the latest developments from our london bureau. Reporter jon, the worry in the United Kingdom is that the crisis here may soon look like the crisis in italy. The death toll in the u. K. Now exceeds 200, rising by nearly 30 over the last 24 hours. Thousands of respirators, hospital beds and doctors, many of whom are being called back from retirement, will be introduced into the Public Health system next week. And finally, we go to china where the government is on a pr offensive, shipping experts and millions of face maxings masks to places like greece, serbia, the Czech Republic and italy. Meanwhile in china, there are some signs that the crisis may be dissipating. For the third day now in a row, no new reported cases in wuhan or the hue bay province where all this started. Jon . Jon item Ryan Chilcote, thank you. The pentagon deploying its sources and personnel to assist some of the hardesthit states where hospitals are overwhelmed due to the outbreak. But the u. S. Military is facing challenges of its own as dozens in its ranks have tested positive for covid19. Lucas tomlinson has more from the pentagon. Reporter top pent gone Officials Say theres no truth whatsoever to rumors the National Guard will enforce martial law or a nationwide curfew amid the coronavirus outbreak. Acting dhs secretary chad wolf spoke on fox friends. Its simply not true. We see a lot of disinformation campaigns, so we want to make sure we refute those. Reporter the held of the National Guard said on twitter, quote i hear unfounded rumors about National Guard troops supporting a nationwide quarantine. Let me be clear, theres been no such discussion. The National Guard will continue to help their communities. Defense secretary esper says over 4,000 guardsmen have been mobilized across 31 statements and tens of thousands could eventually be all called up. Be called up. Thousands of hotel rooms are being turned into makeshift hospitals. Were talking about over 10,000 that were looking at right now. We need to send that up, and in fairness to the state of new york, that is not my decision. Fema has to make a decision of what is that allocation, is and we will exercise whatever fema tasks used to do. Reporter the u. S. Womens football tackle team returned home after being stranded in honduras. The state Department Says its doing everything it can to bring other americans home including those stuck in peru. The u. President trump looking to accelerate possible Treatment Options for the coronavirus, tweeting high driving while intoxicated city color chloroquine and iowa zit promy sin taken together have a real chance to be one of the biggest guamchangers in the history of medicine. How realistic is this . Lets bring in mike levin, former secretary of health and Human Services and former governor of utah. The president seems to hold a lot of, hold out a lot of promise for this particular drug cocktail. What are the experts saying, there . Well, existing medicines that have been through fda and have been in the market for a long time that will have an impact on this virus do seem to be pomsing and promising and could happen much more quickly than a vaccine. A vaccine, it goes through a much more lengthy process in order to make certain that its safe and effective. But it would be a gamechanger, youre right, if we could find the right cocktail of prescription or nonprescription drugs that could have an impact on this virus. Jon the director of the National Institute of allergy and infectious diseases, dr. Anthony fauci, didnt seem to hold out as much hope for this particular drug cocktail f thats what you want to call it. Here are his remarks. Not totally sure of what the president was referring to, but i believe hes referring to a report that used both high driving while intoxicated city chloroquine and assist row my sin together to have some possibility of being in effect. Many of the things that you hear out there are what i had called ab ec dotal reports anecdotal report. They may be true, but theyre anecdotal. Jon so it leaves us wondering, is it anecdotal information, or is there solid Science Behind this . I think its clearly at this point anecdotal information. But the fact these drugs have existed for a long time and that they have demonstrated some impact on other viruses give people, i think, a reason to wonder if thats a combination. I am sure that there are, the scientific communitys pursuing that as rig louse rousely rigorously as possible. Well know more as information is available. Jon obviously, its an all hands on tech kind on deck kind of situation. The president has talked about the great work the fda has done to get drugs and other treatments fasttracked. But in terms of, you know, testing out new medications on human beings, thats a very slow process. It is a slow process, but its an important one. Its a dangerous one to try to put things out too quickly. There was an instance in 1967 when a vaccine for the swine flu was put into the marketplace with a kind of rapid process and, frankly, we dealt with very Serious Health issues for many years after that. So i think well see that our government is properly certain before we start injecting vaccines into the arms of human beings that its safe and effective. Jon there might be a lot of people out there withing you know, spring hay fever symptoms who are wondering if theyre carrying coronavirus. I want to put up a list of the symptoms right now so that everybody can read those. Fever is a big part of it. Cough, shortness of breath, aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat and even diarrhea. As we close tonight, mike, what are, whats your best advice to americans who are staying home and maybe a little bit afraid . Well, were all unsettled by something we have not experienced before as a country. And i think its clear that many people will get the virus that will not find themselves in serious harms way. So i think that we ought to be conscious that if that occurs and we begin to have very serious symptoms, then its time to go to the there or to do something the doctor or to do something. If its mild symptoms like this, weve been through this before. Jon former utah governor, former health and Human Services secretary, thank you. And well be right back with more Team Coverage on the coronavirus pandemic. Dad, we need to talk about something important.
