Transcripts For FOXNEWSW On The Record With Greta Van Susteren 20141022

On the record will take to you denver with the news thats developing. First, fox news chief intelligence correspondent Catherine Herridge joins us. Catherine . Thank you, greta. I have been in touch with one of our somali contacts this evening who confirmed that the three girls are either 15 or 16 years old two are sisters of somali decent. In this case the parents threw up the red flag at the end of last week that the girls were missing, contacted the fbi. And the fbi was able to intervene and stop them in germany. This is not typically what you see. Usually these families, according to our contact feel some fear about contacting the fbi and some shame. They wait. By the time they do contact the feds, these kids are already out on the battlefield and they are not easy to bring back. We dont know how they got poisoned because these are minors, right . Which is one of the problems that we have getting information. Any idea why they were stopped in germany and denver . Did they actually slip through and it wasnt until germany that the feds could the authorities caught up with them . I found out tonight that im officially Old Fashioned because did i not know until i spoke to Law Enforcement contact that if you are 15 or 16 years old, if you have got a ticket, you can get on that aircraft. You dont need to have parental consent. Just think of the money for this ticket. I assume they bought one way tickets which should have been a red flag to the denver airport. That should have been a red flag. When the families filed a missing persons document with the Law Enforcement, that the kids had taken 2,000 in cash on the same day that they had complained about feeling sick and staying home from school. Went to a local library and that does appear to be where they made the purchase of the ticket. So that goes to Facilitation Network and the fbi director james comey has made it a high priority to identify the Facilitation Networks not just in the denver area but also minneapolis, seattle, columbus, ohio, and boston, massachusetts. Just stunning. I mean, imagine wanting to join those savages isis who beheads people that dont agree with you. Get that idea in your head when you are only 15 years old . Catherine, thank you. You are welcome. More breaking news from denver in the case of these three girls the denver post confirming other new developments. Denver post reporter jesse paul joins us. Good evening, jesse. Tell me is there any more information about these three girls. I know that they are juveniles, minors so its hard to get information. Yes, its been very difficult. We had new information this evening. The county Sheriffs Office that it thousand dollars figure was confirmed. One of the families who took one of the missing, the run away childrens report reported that they had 2,000 missing as well. We do know their ages now. Its 15, 16, and 17. They were two different families. The information that your colleague spoke of before was correct. Is it i mean, we just had the other arrest in denver of the woman who was 19 years old. She was arrested at the airport in denver. Pled guilty about a month ago. But, you know, why is it i mean, what is there a Huge Community in the denver area of people who might be sympathetic to isis . You know, i cant really speak to that i mean, i dont know if there is a Huge Community here or not. I think its certainly unusual that there are now four people that have been linked to this group in the middle east. I think that its definitely not Surprising New development here. Any idea how you know, what in the world how they got the idea . Was it the internet . Was it friends . Or, you know, any colleagues . I mean, any information about what it was . We know the first case conley was over the internet, according to accordine fbi and reports, Court Records from that. This latest case, again, this has been developing over the last three or four hours now. We didnt know anything about in this morning. This was a report that the federal officials have been really mum about in the last few hours since the story first broke. And kind of with every minute we are learning a little bit more. All right. Its not just even their age. These are young women, including the 19yearold who pleaded guilty. All women, all girls . That is correct, yeah. And so far, and there is no other information other than we know that they are juveniles and they got picked up in germany. They were headed to join isis and thats essentially all we he have at this point. Yeah. I mean i dont even know if we have quite that much. I would say that we know for sure that they were headed to germany. We have that from voice of america. They are suspected of trying to join isis or the islamic state. Again, like i said, its all kind of developing right now. We are just learning more and more things at different times. There is tons of reporters out here in denver trying to reach out to the family. We know that these girls were from aurora, a suburb just east and south of denver. Jesse, thank you. Jesse paul of the denver post. Thank you. Absolutely, thank you. And now reports that our neighbors in canada hit by a terrorist attack. A radicalized islamic convert murdering a canadian soldier running him over in the name of alla. Second soldier also hurt. Taking to you canada where tonda, what happened . There are a lot of details emerging about this today. Yesterday, monday, in a small town south of montreal, an individual, a guy who apparently became frustrated after his cleaning business started to go badly, converted to, i guess, a radical form of islam he started to bring in some of his friends as well. Tried to convert them. In any event, by june he was clearly angry. Selfradicalized, his postings online caught the attention of the his family became worried. They called authorities. By july it looked like he was making plans to go to turkey he was foiled in that. Arrested him. Seized his passport but they didnt have enough evidence to prove that he was going abroad to commit a terrorist act. Thats a criminal offense in canada. They say that neither they nor his family nor anybody foresaw what happened yesterday. But this guy essentially took his car, went to an area strip mall where a lot of services are offered over the counter to military vets, a lot of soldiers in the area. There is a Train College down there. He waited for about two hours apparently, the police tell us in wait in his car and when he saw a couple of soldiers, one in uniform, emerge. He gunned his car toward them and ran them down, hitting them. One has died of his injuries. A 3yearold man. And this fellow took off then. There had been a patrol car in the area, were told by police today. That had had witnessed part of this, took off after him. The guy called 911 and said he committed his acts in the name of allah. And so he took off. By now the police chase is on. There were reports they had laid out a spiked mat to spike his tires. In any event his car flipped. He emerges from the car. There were reports his hands were up. Big knife was shown stuck in the ground next to the car wreck. Anyway, there is a police shooting. He is fired upon seven times, were told by witnesses. And the guy who ran over the soldiers is now dead. Now, there is a a a huge investigation in canada. How many of his friends were sympathizers might have been so inclined like him. The crcmp are trying to determine that now. We are told today it was revealed he was one of 90 individuals that the mounties as the americans would know them as had under surveillance not 24 7 surveillance. They say to us today the police thought they had made efforts to exert a positive influence on him. So its really not clear how widespread his sympathizers are and how far they would have gone to support him in this. One quick question before i let you know tonda. The condition of the soldier who has survived this is, what . Well, is he still alive. We dont know many details about him. It was the other soldiers who was most critically injured and who died of his injuries yesterday, as i say, that 53yearold warrant officer had a 28 year military career in canada and praised by the Prime Minister here today. Lets hope that the other soldier survives. Tonda thank you. Thanks. Lone terrorists are real not just work place violence or stickups on the street. This is terrorism. On the record is investigating connecting the dots of these terrorist lone wolves. Join us friday night for greta investigates, the lone wolves 6 terror, thats friday night at 7 00 p. M. Eastern. Cant watch live, dvr it. Breaking news now. Isis now bragging. Bragging that it has seized so. Weapons. Weapons that were meant to arm the Kurdish Forces. The very latest National Security correspondent Jennifer Griffin live at the pentagon. Jennifer . Greta, centcom acknowledged that at least one of the 28 bundles of ammunition, small arms and medical supplies that u. S. Airplanes dropped sunday to the kurds fighting isis in kobani ended up falling into isis held territory. U. S. Warplanes carried out a followup air strike to destroy that humanitarian aid drop so that it would not fall into the hands of isis. Then today, isis release this video that it says showed some of the aid the u. S. Air lifted to the kurds did land in its territory. The video which is still being authenticated to the pentagon shows isis fighters inspects crates and small arms dropped by the u. S. A. Capture of some of the Homeland Security relief for propaganda. Firefighters released tweets today with s such as thanks u. S. A. Attached to images of the arms which strayed into their territory in kobani, thats the syrian town on the Turkish Border where all the fighting has been taking place in recent weeks. Pentagon Officials Say they cant rule out that the images are authentic and that some of the aid may have been captured by isis fighters it was windy when the air drop took place. First time the u. S. Resupplied the in the air. The pentagon has not ruled out more air drops of this kind. None of the fighters on the ground any turkish or iraqi ministers arrive in kobani. Despite promises by the turkish government yesterday that they were willing to open. Jennifer, thank you. And the pentagon admitting it is possible notify jennifer that the isis got ahold of u. S. Arms and aid. So now what . What does isis have and what can it do with it . General bob scales joins, good evening, sir. Good evening good evening, greta. Assume isis did get ahold of something not making it up or get ahold with phony pictures, what did they do with it. Depends on whats in the crates, i looked in those pictures and clearly this is a joint precision. It is an american parachute. It is an american bundle. The disweent pictures look suspicious. They had pineapple grenades which we dont have. They had rpgs just laying out on the ground. It just seems to me that the bundle didnt look lethal enough for isis. So they are propaganda folks just made it look a lit more sinister than the bundle really was. It was about 2,000 pounds of material it included medical supplies and a few weapons. Not a big deal. The deal it is that they are sending signal to the rest of the world that the american effort to run this campaign from the air is slipshod and its not being effective and isis is able to stay in power. You know, i thought she said there were 21 bundles, one of 21 is about 5 . I actually thought that was pretty good if we lost 5 . I thought ba was a pretty good number. Only one. Actually it is dont forget at night low level, the airplane is going 160 knots. Also high winds. Dont forget now the Kurdish Forces are surrounded by isis. So you pretty much have to put it all 24 or 22 bundles in the pickle. If all of them are going to land in the hands of friendlies and we have had these problems before air drops. Its not unusual. Whats important, greta, to my point, is the signal that it sends to the rest of the world that we dont know what were doing. Yeah, except that maybe they will do my mouth and think that actually i thought sent the other signal that we are doing a lot more than anybody else is as well, i might note were we are not doing enough is another issue. General scales, thank you, sir. Grawnk, greta. The. U. S. Fight more ebola. From keeping people carrying ebola into this country, latest weapon new travel restrictions. Today the department of Homeland Security announcing the new travel rules. They require all passengers arriving in the u. S. From the ebola hot zones lie beeria, sierra leone and guinea to fly into one of the airports where enhanced screening is already in place. Those airports are new yorks kennedy newark liberty, washington dulles, chicago ohare and heartfield jackson in atlanta. Now, as an aside, im not so sure how safe we should feel. One could internet into the the incubation period. Zero symptoms, no fever and pass the airport test and right in the United States. Those are the restrictions. Nurels nina pham has been upgraded to good condition. And the nbc photographer in nebraska hospital is now ebolafree. He will be released tomorrow. And now listen to this. Former congressman allen west sounding the alarm about u. S. Troops going to west africa with very little ebola training. He tweets about the first troops sent to west africa saying unfriggi unfriggiingbelievable. U. S. Troops are getting only 4 hours of ebola training before deployment to liberia. That got pumped up to three days. Is that enough . I dont know what the area of instruction is obviously sends a message that four hours was not enough and reacting to the fact that many people looked at this and said how you can send combat troops into the hot zone of a deadly disease with only four hours of training. Would you take a medical professional and give them four hours of training and then send them into a combat zone . Absolutely not. So, i think the obama as general scales just said, again, they are showing a level of incompetence in using the United States military and first of all what i think is the wrong purpose to go build shelters in west africa and liberia. They are not properly training them. I think one thing we sort of have to be really mindful of. Dr. Brantly samaritans purse got ebola. Other people in liberia heard them talk about it said he was the most meticulous about putting the gear on when he was treating people with ebola. And the suspicion is that he didnt catch he didnt get infected by ebola when he was acting as a doctor but in the community which then, of course, makes me wonder what are we putting our soldiers at risk of if its if just in the community when you are not sort of working you are at risk. And you are absolutely right. Because the reports that i read show the soldiers live in the community. Some are staying and contracted out hotels, being driven around by west african nationals and we are not sure about who think have had contact with. This is a very serious issue and we are taking incredible risk with our men and women. Sending them over to this area. But the hypocrisy, greta, is that why are we not sending them into a combat zone when they are trained to fight against an enemy such as against isis. But, yet, we are going to give them some slipshod and some very inexpedient training to go over and ebola hot zone which i think is unconscionable. It took me about an hour to get into and learn a little bit about getting into one of shows hot suits yesterday. But what i noticed is that with having someone giving me direction on how to remove it it is that even though i had someone there telling me what to do i jumped ahead a little bit and didnt lean forward enough at one time and probably contaminated myself a little bit. You really have to follow every direction so very carefully. Its so easy to make a mistake. No youre absolutely right. When we are sending our soldiers over to build shelters and to build yeargs for the people there in west africa, why couldnt that be contracted out to local nationals i dont know. Congressman, thank you. And, of course, we wish the best to our numbers in the military who are over there trying to do trying to basically protect the rest of us. Thank you, sir. Lets get andrew am reissy out of jail. And lets get Sergeant Andrew tahmooressi out of that mexican prison. Im with you on that one. Anyway, thank you, sir. Yes, sir. Thank you, greta. North korea just set free american jeffrey fowl. Fowl has been held in north korea for about six months why . For leaving a bible at a nightclub.
