Former u. S. Ambassador to iraq James Jeffrey says everyone warned the Obama Administration about isis and that they did almost nothing. Just today an isis massacre of 30 iraqis in a town west of baghdad. And then here at home, new fears of lone wolf attacks here in the United States. So could all of this have been avoided if president obama had just paid more attention . Ambassador jeff joins us. Good evening, sir. Thank you for having me on, greta. Did i correctly quote you that the Obama Administration was warned . You correctly quoted me. And how were they warned . They were warned both by their experts on iraq as late or as early as november and december as last year by various intelligence reports. Most the town of fallujah iconic town for the u. S. Military because we lost some people liberating it back in 2004, when that fell, it was very clear that its sis was not another Islamic Terrorist Group a threat to the very stability of the middle east. For months we did almost nothing, until june. That was even more painful that happened late december and january. That of course is when the president obama quoted in the new yorker isis was jay vee. Anything but jay vee . You have been all over the world for the United States government. Is isis different from anybody else many other groups . Really good question. Isis has things in common with many of these Islamic Radical groups that we have seen pop up over decades, particularly since the 1970s in the region. Iran is another kind of manifestation of this sort of islamic transdental religious movement. But isis is different because they know no rules. They dont try to adapt to the modern world. They are basically an alternative Universe Organization of society and man and woman. We need to stop these guys because they are dangerous. Why do you think if the Obama Administration was warned last, december, for instance, why did they not take more action or why did the president call it jay we if you know . I think first of all the president hab quite successful fighting the parent organization, the mother ship al qaeda with the killing of usama bin laden and other actions in yemen and elsewhere. And i think that he does have the pivot to the pacific in the long run. Thats where most of the worlds trade and most of the worlds Economic Development will come from. Cant we do both . We can and we should. But, the priority has been to shift both military and diplomatic resources to the pacific and the hope was, you know, let the middle east deal with itself. We werent successful in afghanistan. We werent all that successful in iraq. Dont keep trying. Well, we see what happens when we stop trying. All right, based on what we are doing now with these
air strikes and some support to some of these more moderate groups and, of course, helping the kurds, is this a recipe for successful . Is this sort of status quo or recipe for disaster . This is a recipe for the status quo and i see it i would prefer american Ground Troops in some numbers to deal with the conventional threat that isis is posing to particularly the government of iraq and kurtish friends in the north. Even if im wrong and you can do this from the air, you have got to do it in a different way from the air. You have got to put a lot more airplanes in and advisors on the ground. And the president has been told that and basically doesnt go along with these recommendations. I have been to the refugee camps there in fact, Franklin Graham who is going it be on later about another topic went to a refugee example near irbill. These people are really suffering. Its unbelievable, isnt it . It is terrible. Thats a whole other aspect of the International Effort and we have got to do that we have got to look at whats the source of all
these refugees . The source is two terrible movements, the Assad Government in syria that has killed over 200,000 of its own citizens and isis. And they need to be both dealt with. Ambassador, thank you. I hope you come back, sir. Thank you very much. Developing now the department of Homeland Security is now beefing up security. Why . Fox news chief intelligence correspondent Catherine Herridge joins us. Good evening, catherine, why are they beefing it up. We an important piece of information from the House Intelligence Committee who gets regular briefings, he said a sea change a specific piece of intelligence back in september indicated that the isis leadership was telling its recruits not to travel to syria and iraq anymore but to rather stay where they are at home and to kidnap individuals or do beheadings and film it for propaganda purposes. You said it came back last september. Its now october 29th they are beefing up what reason . If its so important to do it now why didnt they do it in september when they got the information. Intelligence can be
incremental, this was specific to a group of australian groups who were determined to travel to iraq and syria but were directed by the isis leadership to stay in australia. Directly here to the United States . There may be. But i do not have that confirmed at this point. But, as you know from the reporting here, we have had at least three intelligence bulletins, since that time talking about the spike in activity, directly individuals to target members of the u. S. Military and law enforcement. And then you couple that with what we saw last week in canada. Of course, our leader dead or not . We thought we got him in a strike . The information that we have he was not killed. Something no suggest that he was killed. Air strikes unfortunately have disrupted the khorasan group. Al qaeda linked group. Al qaeda members that are. Syria . Thats correct. But not that it has been degraded in anyway. Very temporary. Catherine, thank you. Youre welcome. With the threat of lone wolf terrorists are we doing enough . Senator kelly ayotte is on the homeland committee. She joins us. Good evening, senator. Good evening, greta. Senator, do you know of any specific threats or anything that should should in any way have us alarmed tonight or as we beef up security its just because we see the world as increasingly dangerous . Well, i think, greta, what you see the secretary jobs doing important in light of what happened in canada, the terrorist attack we saw there. So in terms it of what Catherine Herridge mentioned, it makes sense that we would beef up security, but we have to do much more. First of all, i think continuing to take the fight to isis and really to weaken them both in iraq and syria, and i think the air strikes at this point have been tepid in that regard. But also i continue to worry about the threat of the western passport holders, the foreign fighters that have gone or attempted to go to syria. Including close to 100 americans. I think Homeland Security has to take greater steps to revoke peoples ports sooner that can have access to the United States. As you know, many of these
countries you dont need a visa to come to the United States as well as focus continue on americans who are attempting to join isis. But we have got to be tougher there, i think, on the Homeland Security front. All right. So if we need to take the fight to isis makes more sense to fight them there than here. You heard ambassador jeffrey say the Obama Administration had been warped by b. Isis last january or december and basically did not do enough. Blew off the warnings, it appears. My term not his. Then you have got the situation where we thought we got the core zon leader in september in those bombing attacks in syria. Well, apparently thats not so. And so we dont have boots on the ground. And Ambassador Says that at best what we are going to do is keep the status quo. It doesnt seem like we are getting ahead of the game. I think unfortunately we arent, greta. Because the air strikes at this point they have been tepid. They havent been as forceful as we have used in the past. In addition to that, you think about some of these moderate opposition they
have been trying to change. Im not sure how thats going to work. Also, i would say that you also have to step back and think about this in the context of why would the administration not want to engage on iraq at the time they first heard about these warnings . Well, they wanted to leave iraq. I mean, the president ran on that. He didnt pursue the followon force there in the way that he should have. And so i think thats why they were late to this game. We cant afford to do this any longer and to be late to these issues. We have to be much more aggressive and i think forward in addressing the threats that were facing, especially when we see what happened in canada and also in new york city recently. And even today 30 people executed near baghdad. I mean, baghdad is looking worse and worse. About 30 miles from baghdad. Its just getting worse there. Very close. I mean, exactly the closing in on baghdad, deep concern. We know how vicious members of isis are. And what they have done and continue to do. Breaking right now. Disturbing information about the doctor ebola. Did he hide details about his travel throughout the city. Rick leventhal live at Bellevue Hospital with the latest. Rick . The New York Post is reporting that dr. Craig spencer lied to investigators about his travels around the city telling them he selfquarantined and not telling them that rode multiple subway trains, that he dined out and that he went bowling in brooklyn just hours before alerting authorities that he had a fever and possible ebola symptoms. A source told me today it might be an exaggeration to call dr. Spencer a liar but saying he failed to mention being out in public before being taken to the hospital. The source said Health Detectives had one story last thursday morning and very different story that afternoon. Apparently only after the investigators checked the doctors electronic trail, examining his metro card,
cell phone and credit card statement that they discovered that he had been out and about. Thats when he he confirmed his travels, all of it just a few days after returning from west africa where he treated ebola patients. In a statement, the city said in support of dr. Spencer that dr. Spencer cooperated fully with the Health Department to establish a time line his movements in the days following his return from new york to new guinea providing his metro credit cards and cell phone. The mayor says dr. Spencer should be praised hero and brave man and he is in some tough straits right now, greta. Is he in serious but stable condition in bellevue facing toughest days of his battle against ebola. If he he is you supplying all that information to authorities, not like he was hiding something mistaken or forgot. I hope he gets better. Thank you, rick. And today secretary of defense chuck hagel ordering a 21 day quarantine for all u. S. Troops returning from Ebola Response missions from west africa. Yesterday, president obama
outraging many military families by saying Service Members are subject to different restrictions than civilian healthcare workers because the troops are not volunteers. Joining us susan mendel, the wife of an air force member getting ready to deploy to west africa. Good evening. Good evening, how are you doing . Im very well. What do you think of the reference that the troops are not volunteers . I have to say that im very hurt by that comment. And i would have to i dont understand where comments like that come from because the last i checked were a little over 40 years this has been an all volunteer military. He i suppose the president meant that they volunteered for the service but once in the service he gets to tell them what to do. Im going to suppose that but since i thats not what was said, i dont really know. But we are an all volunteer military. And while we watch our Service Members sign away their lives on the dodded line and, yet, they can be ordered to places, they are volunteers, still. Do you know what your husband is going to be doing in west africa . Have they told you . No, i dont know. Does he know . Im sure he does. But he might not be able to tell me. Do you know how long is he going to be gone what the deployment is. Im so sorry, i wish i had a little more information to give you. There is such Little Information being given to our families or at least to me at this point that i am unaware of how long he will be there and exactly what he he will be doing. Deployment to west africa . I have friends stationed in europe and other military installations like wright partson air force base where their families are packing up their spouses to deploy now. Do you have a sense from speaking to them . I assume you have had some contact with them. You think the spouses and the families are being treated with the respect and
they are getting the information or getting what they need from the military, from the president , from the American People or do you feel like you are getting sort of the short end of the stick . Its always tough can w. Deployments, especially a deployment like this one. I think that we are getting the Installation Support that we need. The Family Support that comes from our squadrons and battalions, we are definitely receiving that support. For the rest of america, i would love to say i know that answer but i know here at fort bragg in fayetteville no matter where they deploy there is going to be lack of support here. Lack of answers on deployment time is lacking for myself and other family members. That is something that we would love to have. That knowledge of how long can we expect them to be gone . Susan, thank you. And i thank you and your family for your sacrifice . Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much. So two sets of standards. One for the military, and another for civilian healthcare workers is that right . Lt. Colonel oliver north joins us. Good evening, sir, in the two sets of standards is the military will get quarantined and civilian will not . Well, first of all go back, susan you and your mates and all of those deployed in harms way my heart and prayers go out to you. You know, this commander and chief apparently does not know that this is the very first war since the American Revolution in which everyone serving in uniform like susans husband is a volunteer. Its never happened before. And so this is the first fight americans have been 1775 when the revolution began where everybody is a volunteer. Number two, for the very first time i will say. Do yo president . I actually thought when i heard that i know this volunteer thing has deeply offended many members of the military. Doesnt make sense to me. The way i heard it is you volunteer for the military and we thank you very much. Once you are in the military, then all of a sudden you dont even get to choose what you want to do. I didnt come here to be
generous to this commander and chief. Forgive me. No, im just saying on that point. I cant put myself in this mans heart and mind because i dont understand it. I do concur with the decision to put them into a quarantine for 21 days. One of the very few bright decisions that they have made in this administration regarding our military. There is not a Single Person i know of wearing a uniform who wants to put their family and their loved ones back home at greater risk. Heres what i would suggest is they finally had a good idea. Here is two more. Number one, shorten the tour of duty in west africa by 30 days so they are not going to miss any more time with their families. Thats a great idea. I like that idea. I was one of them. Number two, when they rotate out, replace them with local hire construction people. You have got navy and Army Engineers and air force engineers out there building a lot of what we see on the screen behind us. In reality, this could all be done by local people and it would put money into their economy and supervise them with u. S. Agency for International Development people. I have got another idea. Since we cant we dont have any place to quarantine. This is an idea. We waste so much money, spend money so wildly. Why dont we rent a really nice hotel on a nice beach and put them all there for 21 days. Why dont we treat them like give them something extra. Were going to need a lot more of them. Its not going to be more expensive. All you just covered was isis before this segment. All of that is piling up. And november 33rd is the feast of assurea in iraq. Its a shiite holiday. If the sunni radicals and isis are going attack, they would probably attack somewhere like hatalla and nigaff first. We are likely toed me need a whole lot more people deployed. The feast is followed by oh yeah an election in america. Well you didnt ask me for good news. I will bring that next time. Always nice to see you,
ollie. Colonel oliver north, thank you. Be sure to tune in for war stories with oliver north on the Fox Business Network this sunday at 8 00 p. M. Straight ahead dr.
