Correct. But time for Political Correctness is over. We have to get this problem solved. We are right about that. Much like florida, we went through this last month. We had a School Shooting at Marshall County high school. We are going to hear a lot about what we are going to do in the future to protect our children. What are we going to do now to protect our children . Theres going to be a lot of debate but i applaud you for having the courage to bring together Law Enforcement, Mental Health professionals and educators sitting around this table to decide together what we need to do. Im really curious to hear what the attorney general continues to do in florida. I also think that we as Law Enforcement need to create a database so we can take information and put that into a database of the fbi can share with local Law Enforcement and state police. We all have that information we can act upon. I think there should be something coming out of that that we did something with. It didnt just lay there but we took that information and we acted on that and its something im very interested in pursuing. President trump thank you, the federal government is really going to be a coordinator between all of the states, you can give information and other states will have that information. We will be doing that. I have to say, the states are starting to act. Florida is an example, a lot of states are starting to act on their own. They dont necessarily need 100 from the federal government. The federal government is going to help a lot but a lot of states can do some of the things im talking about on their own. And i really implore them to do it as quickly as possible as you understand. Wait until you see what Governor Scott is about to release. President trump Governor Scott is a great example. There will be coordination with the federal government but the states can do a lot of this work on their own. Paula . I am a Mental Health professional, although i now work at the department of human services. I think what you said about warning signs is very important to note and access to appropriate services. Training educators, educators can be trained in how to identify those Early Warning signs and making sure those services are easily acceptable e because access is a problem. Someone has to leave school grounds, go to a clinic, week for an appointment, youve lost all that time. Mental Health Professionals located in schools, and places are people going to the community so those people are identified and get those services quickly, before it gets to the point of having some significant need. Mental Health Professionals also for people that have more significant needs, cannot wrap around the whole family . A lot of the times that families are asking for help but they havent gotten that support. There may be stigmas, access issues, you want to make sure all those services are there and readily available, that there is no stigma to those services and they can have them. We were talking a minute ago about not letting it get to the point where somebody is scared and somebody gets arrested. Other states have used crisis stabilization units and our governor has given some funds for us to start them in our state. They are units which are not just Mental Health, a partnership between the county, the Mental Health agency in that area and Law Enforcement. Law enforcement is trained with crisis intervention training, they can identify people and they arrest them, that they have a Mental Illness, that they are having a Mental Health issue. Instead of taking them to jail where they wouldnt receive that treatment, or where it will be very difficult for them to be screened, they can take them to the crisis stabilization unit and hold them there for 72 hours. They can do screenings, they can begin treatment and make sure they get filtered into the right treatment with the judiciary and lawn fish law officials furnis. President trump hes a great governor, hes done a great job. As you know last year you identified serious Mental Illness is one of the core priorities already and that is involved funding and involved creating the Interdepartmental Coordinating Committee around serious Mental Illness. Pull all the resources of the federal government together around these issues. Ive enjoyed the discussion so far this morning with these experts around some of the areas of how we are building our future agenda here to really tackle these issues of serious mental issues around the issues of violence. One of those areas as education, what can we do better to assist educators and parents and First Responders on dealing with serious Mental Health situations . Second is what can we do around screening and identification of those at risk . The third is treatment, both preventative treatment for those who are recently diagnosed but also those who are in imminent risk or a danger to themselves or others and that might involve involuntary issues as we talked about earlier. How can we be there to get people to care they need to live fruitful and good lives but be safe . The fourth is community engagement. So often serious Mental Illness is part of being disengaged or disconnected. Research on the next generations of therapy, what can we in the federal government do to help bring the research and nextgeneration therapies and Mental Illness to the table for people . President trump thank you very much. The mayor of parkland florida has suffered greatly, things you never thought you would ever be a part of or seen and i want to say on behalf of all of us, you have done a great job. Youve had a rough hand what youve done a great job. Thank you. President trump id like to say thank you, i dont know if you realize how much it meant to the students to be able to have a voice and be heard by you and your administration. Thats a very empowering thing for the students and we appreciate it immensely. We spoke yesterday, this roundtable has been amazing, i am grateful to be able to be here. This didnt just happen in a vacuum, there was a double timeline that led to the sand i am very happy there is such a commitment to action on all the steps that could have been taken to prevent it. The beginning of the Mental Health portion of it, the police portion of it, if there have been better communication, maybe that could have been acted on. Its very important to our residents right now is the School Safety portion of it. That someone like that cannot gain access to these schools and that our students are safe going to school. Its very important that we act on that as quickly as possible because that is where parents and the students are afraid right now. And on the end, how did somebody like this person get access to that kind of firearm . And i think what pam is working on is wonderful and thank you so much for allowing us to to a st at the table and listening and being committed to action, i think that makes it all very hopeful. Karris thank you and i am so sorry for what youve gone through, few people will go through what youve gone through over the last weekend we all appreciate it, youve done an incredible job in a time when they need it. The amazing thing about parkland, which i know because florida is a special place i know very well, this is the last place in this country where you would think a thing like this could happen. We are one of the safest cities. If it can happen here, it can happen anywhere and its very important that we do everything we can to secure our schools, so the students feel safe and the parents feel safe sending them there. Thank you, mr. President. We had a really great conversation and i want to leave more time for the other participants, we can brief you later on more of the great ideas and issues these leaders have talked about as you continue to lead this discussion and prepare for your conversation with the governors. President trump i think most people know kellyanne conway, shes become a pretty big star. I think the best, right . Would you like to Say Something . I know its a very important issue for you personally. Thank you for yesterday and today and the one thing i would mention, we heard it from the mayor before you walked in the room and mr. Scott yesterday, is some of the social Media Outlets youve mentioned didnt even exist in 1999 but its a lack of connectedness and i think thats a whole other type of stigma and violence that needs to be cured in our society. We all have a role to play their in this entire spectrum, we should watch our words and our actions and realize that there are many different causes and different consequences, obviously but at the same time if we are focusing on youth we need to focus on all youth and the ability for them to feel that they are connected. That is not with respect to any one individual, but i heard it very clearly yesterday, and very clearly from the president of the United States a moment ago. Thank you very much for being a leader, mr. President. I think you have a great opportunity to join with the nation and help them to heal and move forward in a way that shows not just resilience but great resolve and not just talk about action. I am very grateful that you are president at this time. President trump thank you very much, kelly end. Thank you for your leadership on this issue. You are absolutely right, i read some of your comments from last night, we have to find a way to let good people defend our students, we cant let criminals think this will be an easy target for them to enter their schools and endure our students, we have two find a way that our students arent sitting ducks. Furthermore, i think we do have some good programs, though safe to tell program in colorado has been wildly successful, not just for School Violence action but for suicidal ideations and other things of that nature. That said, i think we also need to realize its not just about the guns. My experience is pretty unique in columbine in that there were also two propane tanks, there were supposed to be a bomb that will go off, there are other ways people can commit these atrocious acts. I appreciate your approach on this by listening before just reacting. President trump i appreciate what youre saying and ive watched you and read about you, you have a great story, where you came from, you are doing so fantastically well right now. I happen to agree with you. We have to harden our schools, not soften them up. A gun free zone to a killer or somebody that wants to be a killer, that is like going in for the ice cream. That is like here i am, take me. We have to get smart on a gun free zone. That means nobody has a gun except them. Nobodys going to be shooting bullets in the other direction. They see that it is such a beautiful target, they live it for gun free zones. Frankly you have teachers that are marines, they retire and become a teacher. Army, navy, coast guard, people that have won shooting contest. They know guns, they understand guns. I frankly have been reading a lot about it and i think when you allow a person who has done nothing but handle gun safely and handle them well, one of the Fake News Networks set i want teachers to have guns. I dont want teachers to have guns, i want certain highly adept people that understand weaponry, if they really have that aptitude. Not everybody has the aptitude for a gun but if they have the aptitude i think a concealed permit for teachers and letting people know there are people with a gun. You wont have these shooters because these people are cowards. They are not going to walk into a school if 20 of the teachers have guns. It may be 10 . It may be 40 . What id recommend doing is the people that do carry, we give them a bonus. We give them a little bit of a bonus. Frankly, theyd feel more comfortable having the gun anyway. Practically for free you will have now made the school into a hardened target. For instance, if the coaches, who i guarantee you have plenty of experience with weapons, if they have guns you need it hard because no matter what you do to keep them gun free, they will be able to get in there and the crop through the back of a window or something and you are going to have everybody again without any protection. I know where you stand, you want a hardened school and i want to hardened school. Its going to take 10 minutes for the police to get there. The police to an incredible job in getting there, it averages about 8 minutes. The shooting averages 3 minutes and thats tremendous destruction and death. I would like to see true people with great talent at guns, being adept at guns, of which there is only a percentage of people. Whatever that percentage may be, its a substantial number. You cant hire enough Security Guards. You would have 150 Security Guards, that is a very big school. Who wants that many Security Guards standing all over the place . You get up been steeled the teachers, nobody would know who they are and its a tremendous threat. Instead of advertising the school has no guns, we are gun free, do the opposite. Nobody is going to attack that school. Not everybody agrees with us. I think a lot of people do agree with us but i think we need hardened sites, you come into our schools, you are going to be dead. Its going to be fast. Unless you do that you will always have this problem. We had a case at a military base where five marines, three of them were worldclass shops and experts at guns. They were told it was a gun free area. Within a military place, if you cant believe it. If you cant trust our military, who are you going to trust . They put away their guns, there guns were in a different sectio section. Totally gun free, the guns were 250 yards away from them. They went in for lunch and a wacko came in and shot the five of them. Three of these people were worldclass marksmen. He wouldnt have lasted for a second but they stood there, there was nothing they could do. All five were killed, you know the instance i was talking about. That was in a gun free zone on a military base. As school is frankly no different. I want my schools protected just like my banks are protected, just like everything else. I was watching a politician, a weak, ineffective politician last night. He was talking about no guns, know this, know that. Hes surrounded by three guys carrying guns. One of the going to give up their guns . But he wants everybody else to have no guns. We have to harden our sites. We have to be very careful and these people, as adept as they may be, they have to go to trading. I would say every six months, every year. They have to have a rigorous course in what theyre doing. They should be paid extra money. Those teachers should be paid extra money. They get a bonus, they love getting that bonus. It would be much less expensive than the guards. It wouldnt look bad. If you had guards, it would look like you have an armed camp, that looks terrible. It would be much more effective. Ill tell you what. If you harden these sites in that way or some other way in a similar fashion, if you hardened the sites, you are not going to have this problem because these guys will lack courage, they will never go into those schools. Those schools are going to be safe. When you say a school is gun free, its got no guns, no guy nothing, its gun free. Thats what they want to hear. I strongly agree with you. First, thank you for march march 29th. For the veterans, she is a vietnam widow. What we are doing, ive got to thank clarence, we have regular jobs and do this on the side. One of the things we are doing in our School System in georgia is giving School Boards a lot of power and you are absolutely correct. We have the single point of entry and all of our schools, you have to be buzzed to get in. We have resource officers. And like you said, it would take quite a bit. I believe its seven with our school, we have 13,332 students and 892 teachers. We also work really closely with our Law Enforcement. For example, one of our middle schools and Elementary Police stations right around the corner, we do pay the local police to help, when people are coming and going to do the traffic but they are there and they are present. Thats also a deterrent. President trump how many are in the school . When you have a Sheriffs Department, they dont have enough people to really take care of the school, thats a problem. After the last shooting in 2014, the state of georgia gave the School Systems the authorit authority, if the school board to sew votes on it we can have armed employees. They do have to go through their safety firearm training and our resource officers also go through third party another party for training each year. So you are absolutely correct. There is more that can be done. A lot of it that we need to address is the hard issue. One of the things that comes out of the family, we come from a community where the Faithbased Community wants to help all they can. When the tornadoes hit, people volunteered, came out with chainsaws right when it happened. They had to send them back so they could get the power and gas and all that. When you are allowed to have the faithbased, right now they are trying to figure out how to help in all kinds of ways. But because of the separation of church and state its never intended, we would appreciate if you keep electing appointees to follow the constitution. President trump ive had Great Success with the appointment of justices. We hav
