The white house tells us this is not the last you will hear about this particular story line, which is to say more sanctions and other actions could certainly be coming. As you pointed out the United States with a pretty significant action here today talking about those sanctions, now, those targeted by the new sanctions include the russian nationals and entities that you may remember were charged back on february 16th. Special Counsel Robert Mueller with conspiring to tamper in the u. S. Election. The indictment also says the russians adopted false online personas to push divisive messages. They traveled to the u. S. To collect intelligence and states political rallies while posing as americans. Treasury secretary mnuchin said there be additional sanctions against officials destabilizing activities. In a joint statement with the leaders of france, germany and united kingdom. The u. S. Also blamed moscow for a brazen nerve agent attack on a russian double agent and his daughter on british soil back on march the 4th. President trump today was asked if he was convinced that Vladimir Putins government was, in fact, behind the attack. It looks like it. I spoke with the Prime Minister and we are in deep discussions, very sad situation. It certainly looks like the russians were behind it. Something that should never ever happen and we are taking it very seriously as i think are many others. No surprise, harris. Moscow continues to deny it had anything to do with the attacks. But, of course, thats been a consistent story line. We will learn more today at the briefing coming up a little bit later. But for now back to you. Harris i cant imagine they will stand up and say that military nerve agent yes, we did that. Kevin corke, thank you. My first guest says he is glad the administration is implementing the sanctions passed by Congress Last july. Republican congressman mark walker chairs the republican study commit. Great to have you today. Talk to me about the journey of these sanctions and why you think particularly they will be effective. Well, thanks, harris. Always a privilege to be with you. I believe they will be effective because they have teeth with them. Thats very important to make sure that were send ago very clear message. Think about this. This is the first time that such nerve agent or gas has been used since world war ii. We need to shoat world that america is strong when it comes to that kind of behavior pushing back like this. Putting a line in the sand is very important. Harris you passed these sanctions back in july. Is this really in response to the poisoning or were these coming anyway . I believe its just a coincidence as far as the timing. These sanctions were coming anyway out of the treasury department. But, remember, its very important to think about this. This just didnt happen overnight. This wasnt a process that just began. I often think back to my first two years here, 2015 and 2016. We knew that russia was hitting us many times along with the chinese, Cyber Attacks thousands per day. We didnt know how many were state sponsored versus privatesponsored that was during the Obama Administration which makes me think back to the time that president obama rebuked mitt romney when he discussed that russia was our big east geopolitical foe. Who was the secretary of state at that time hillary clinton. Not trying to draw up conspiracies here. Buff the point im trying to make there was nothing being done to the exempt. Now everybodiens hair is on fire about the russians. It should be but this process should have start the years before. Harris thats interesting point that you are giving us a time line there. Senator Chuck Schumer of new york issued a statement a short while ago saying these new sanctions showed that the Trump Administrations russia sanctions prove muellers investigation is not a witchhunt. What line is he trying to draw there . I think he continues to try to draw eventually there is some kind of collusion that existed with the trump campaign, not to switch we have seen what the Republican Intelligence Committee has put forward, as far as their findings. We believe that consistent. Many people have been saying that for a year and a half now. We think that will hold up. Harris yeah. Its just interesting when you look at what the president is doing today and you know he has critics on the Democrat Party line that say that he hasnt done enough with russia. And a conflicts point there. And then you hear Chuck Schumer say this on a day in which these sanctions are quite strong. You say that a warning from Ambassador Nikki Haley made a difference. How so . Yes, listen, as long as nikki haley is tail at the u. N. That should give vote of confidence. What a bold leader. She is on that wall. She is watching and going to make sure that these fractions are implemented, these sanctions are implemented, rather, to make sure that americans can be safer each and every day. Nikki haley is doing a great job and we applaud her work. Harris it is obvious, congressman walker that we have a russia problem. In fact, the world may have a russia problem. This isnt the only set of elections that they tried to touch. We have the mid terms coming up. Talk to me about getting ready for those. And will there be more, do you think, coming from the white house on pushing back of the russians . Listen, if we have and continue to see more evidence that russians are playing in elections specifically or doing other things of nefarious behavior. I hope we will continue to turn up the heat. Putin is not a good person. There is a history for many years that he has shown his cards. Im glad that we now have an administration who is willing to push back. Will make a difference. Do i expect them to play in the 2018 elections without a doubt . Harris without a doubt. Mark walker, thank you very much, congressman for being with me. I appreciate it. Thanks, harris. Harris lets bring in Chris Wallace anchor of fox news sunday. I went and had a brain room look at some of the things that this administration has done with regard to russia. We saw in august of last year, President Trump signed into law the countering russia influence on europe and asia act of 2017. Codifying sanctions on russia provided for an existing ukraine related and cyber related executive orders. We also saw the administration begin to scale back our Visa Services to russians. That affected business travelers, tourists and students. So this isnt the first thing. Is it fair for critics to look at this president and say he has done nothing with regard to russia . Well, just from what have you said, no. Its not fair to say he has done nothing. But i think there is legitimate criticism that he could have done more. Harris i have a longer list but we only have so much time. But, look, the fact that as you pointed out that these sanctions for meddling in the election were passed by congress overwhelmingly, in july, last july, what is that about 9 months ago, and the president only enacted them today. You know, raises the question what took him so long to do it. And even in his remarks that you just played with him in the oval office, he said well, it looks like. Much tougher red rick coming from the u. N. Ambassador nikki haley, from the president s own spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee sanders. When the president talks himself, there is always a kind of equivocation. It looks like, hes not definite. He doesnt condemn. And thats notable. Harris well, is it also a part and im just asking. I would want to ask the president this question, too. He is a negotiator. And is it also part from that perspective of, okay, everybody can come and do whatever they want. You might want to leave the door open. He potentially could sit down with kim jong un. And he did some of those same types of things with north korea. You know, kind of carrot and stick. Is that in play here, do you think . I you know, my feeling about kim jong un is if anything the success and have to put that in quotes until we see what happens with kim jong un is the result of the opposite which is very tough rhetoric. He talked about rocket man and talked about fire and fury and made it clear we were not going to stand for what he was doing. Not comparing north korea to russia obviously. Its a much more complicated relationship and much bigger relationship with russia. I think if you look at this president over the course, i mean, he was very slow to admit that the russians even meddle you had in the election. He was slow to implement the sanctions and even today, although, yes, he has imposed these sanctions, the rhetoric, you are hearing much more from the white house. Hearing much more from the u. N. Ambassador than you are hearing from the president himself. This is a president who has no problem talking tough when he wants to. Harris were going to need russia and china to deal with north korea. So im going to give you a little bit more of that list. The United States on august 22nd, last summer, imposed new north Korea Related sanctions targeting chinese and russian firms and individuals for supporting the north. I mean, you do need russia in this scenario. I want to get back to where critics have hit this president and how this answers back. What are you learning in terms of, you know, you heard democrat Chuck Schumer saying that this just proves that the Robert Mueller investigation is not a witchhunt. How is that so . Well, i think that the key there is not to say and there certainly has been no evidence of collusion between the trump campaign. Harris exactly. And russia. But, the point is that mueller just indicted a number of people for meddling in the election. Harris 13. Forget about the question of collusion. A number of those people who have been sanctioned now by the president. So in sanctioning him, the president is basically saying, mueller was right. Not about collusion, but about russian meddling nut election. Harris what can you tell us, Chris Wallace, about looking ahead in november . I have talked with lawmakers who we just had on representative mark walker. Thats the next ground really that you could see russia meddling in all of this. We have got to start to turn forward now and advance this. Thats right. Thats another area where i think some people are concerned about the president s russia policy. You had the head of the National Security agency and also he is also the head of our cyber force unit, admiral mike rogers. And he said he had never gotten in all the time he has been there and he was there from the start of the Trump Administration any specific orders to do anything extra to try to fight back against russian meddling. Thats one of the concerns is that lets forget about for the moment about the 2016 election. Youre exactly right. Lets focus on 2018. Has the administration done anything to protect us from the same kind of meddling we had in 2016 this coming november. And the answer is not really very much. Harris diplomacy expert telling me what did in the u. K. Is really nothing and what we have done is a stronger position. We know the president said he talked with the Prime Minister this week about the poisoning and other things i would imagine. So well cover the news as it happens. Chris wallace, thank you. Im going to brag about you now. Good, thank you. Harris youre welcome. This weekend on fox news sunday, chris will be talking with Senate Minority whip dick durbin of illinois. Dont miss it. Attorney general Jeff Sessions we know has until 5 00 p. M. Tomorrow to decide whether he will fire fbi Deputy DirectorAndrew Mccabe. That would be just days before mccabe is set to retire. Jeopardizing his pension after decades of service. This all stems from findings that mccabe mislead internal investigators about whether he allowed fbi officials to talk to the media about the investigation int hillary foundation. Hillary Clinton Family foundation. Here is counselor to the president kellyanne conway. That decision rests with the attorney general. And i will just say on the broader issue of fairness and accountability, its part of how donald trump got elected in the first place. Its not just about draining the swamp. This is a president that took the issue of fairness and really wove the thread through everything from his views on education to immigration, to trade, and to the way the government is held accountable. Harris chief intelligence correspondent Catherine Herridge is live for us in washington with more on this. Catherine . Thank you, harris, a source confirms to fox news that Andrew Mccabes pension is in jeopardy. They say utmost likely outcome is he will lose part of his pension but not all of his government pension because there are a number of safeguards for Government Employees and to lose a pension would be a very high bar there would need to be evidence of criminal activity. A short time ago here on capitol hill, a senior republican said there are a very number of serious issues in play. I would defer to the attorney general on that. I dont have as much information as he has. I do worry that under the previous director that there was it was way too political. Too much leaking. People need to regain their confidence in the fbi and the department of justice that its not just a political playground that actually they are doing their job. Confirm that one the central issues is mccabes statements to the Inspector General. The allegation is that he mislead the Inspector General at the Justice Department or even lied to the Inspector General about his role in october 2016 media report about the clinton foundation. Lying to federal investigators, of course, is a criminal act and in this case, lying to investigators with the Inspector General would be grounds for termination. You will remember, harris, classified Clinton Emails were found on the laptop computer that was shared by clinton aid huma abedin and her husband anthony weiner. This was flagged mccabe in september. But he did not act for several weeks. And the accusations is that he kind of slow rolled that element of the investigation and this was also a focus of the Inspector General. We also understand the office of professional responsibility, this is like the fbis internal affairs division, if you will, has recommended that mccabe be fired, the igs findings were discussed by the current fbi director Christopher Wray with Andrew Mccabe in january. We also understand that mccabe was given the opportunity to take a demotion, take a lesser job at the bureau. But he elected to take whats called terminal leave. The big issue here is what this says about the inspector report looked at the clinton email case based on just what we have been able to confirm about Andrew Mccabe. There are very serious findings in this investigation and you have to remember, harris, Andrew Mccabe was not some kind of rogue actor at the fbi. He was the one who took direction from director comey so there may be implications and very serious imply cases for director comey as well, harris. Harris thats an excellent point, too Catherine Herridge, thanks very much. Lets get more from judge
