Administration and could easily strained relations between the two nato allies. It getting faster brunson saying this is the day our family has been praying for. Im delighted to be on my way home to the United States. On the ground in turkey and jones is now on the phone with the latest. What we witnessed is really the end of a nightmare for brunson who has been in jail here in turkey for most of that ordeal. It all began this morning when brunson arrived in a secured heavily armed convoy then after trial lasted just four hours, the prosecutor first recommended that his house arrest, finally a travel ban of the judge announced he was free clearing the way to returned to the u. S. President trump is always pushed very hard for his release and it was because of sanctions and major terror was proposed by the president and the threat of more sanctions that they finally conceded. Just release will be home soon. In that sense, he was commuted. He had faith 35 years in jail for espionage and terror, but new parts have said those charges were ridiculous. A quiet man who led his congregation faithfully. When asked to speak in court today, brunson said only i am innocent, i love turkey. Congratulations from across the world and u. S. , congratulating the administration as you pointed out, very crucially relations in turkey and the u. S. Melissa thank you for that. For more, lets bring a republican congressman mike turner of ohio who sits on the house intelligence committee. How important is this . This is very important. This was an impediment for the u. S. And turkey relations. Resident from deserves a tremendous amount of credit. If trying to ensure that the pastor could come home that has your report was saying, the pastor led a Christian Church in turkey. No one on the state departments side or congressional oversight who looked at this believe that the charges were valid. And as hes coming home is good news. Melissa when the president advocated for him in the past, he was criticized for folks on the left saying this is one of our nato allies. With that criticism right . 70 could be your ally in doing something wrong and incorrect in this instance, faster brunson coming home is important, its good that the president raised it. They were a number of issues obviously in turkishamerican relations right now but this is one that certainly made a lot more difficult for us to accomplish things. Melissa one person who does give a lot of credit is the pastors sister, listen to her. Its been like a nightmare day after day just waiting to see whats going to happen in each trial we were hopeful. Things in quite fit into place so were glad this is over. The administration that we have in place now working so hard and tirelessly to bring into her home. Melissa you are nodding your head yes and agreeing with her, this is very different from the last of administration where the president has put bringing people home at the forefront. Sometimes in putting relationships in jeopardy to get there it seems. This is one where not only did he make it a priority in all of our diplomatic channels were tempting to try to free the pastor and get this concluded so he could come back home, the president himself raise this issue. And of course took the action to institute sanctions. This is certainly administration saying if its an american being held wrongly, theyre going to take action. Melissa a lot of people that homer or saying theres a couple stories going on in turkey right now and you could eliminate for us but the connection is between the two because we are also at the same time talking about this Washington Post columnist who was a resident of the u. S. Who was believed to have been lured to the Saudi Embassy in turkey and they disappeared. There is now an investigation going on, jamal khashoggi, you can see him on screen between what exactly happened in. Youre looking at footage from outside the Saudi Embassy in turkey there. Both of these things are occurring at the same time in turkey and you say that theres a possibility of repairing a relationship with turkey through both of these. How does that fit into what is going on with this . Even though theres been a strained relationship between United States and turkey, taken turkey farther away from a democracy. They are a strong ally, strong nato ally that we work with. If its of great concern because it starts this pattern that we are seeing where we dont have to worry just about their human rights domestically but also what theyre willing to do inside another sovereign nation. But in this instance, the United States and turkeys intelligence committees are very integrated working together not only in nato but to fight terrorists. This is going to be an issue not only what happened in the consulate went to the journalists, but also the issue of who was responsible and how do we hold them responsible and is going to be opportunities for them to work together. Melissa of the reasons you are explaining to me in the break is the idea that even though turkey doesnt have the best record on human rights right now but they are not going to theyre going to have a big problem with anybody doing anything on their soil. Its the idea of carrying out whatever horrible thing you want to do in someone elses country and double the affront, did they need the u. S. Has to support . My saying that right . When theyre inside someone elses sovereign state, certainly the need to look to their allies for support that this violates International Norms and violates international rights. We saw with russia, the attempted killings that occurred in london and also kim jong un and his brother where we now see nations not only doing things in their own territory but reaching into other nations and doing harm to those who they want to silence and thats a great concern. Melissa s or turkey would need our support on the forefront, its an opportunity. So between these two things, once that conflict is off the table and he is returned and also the u. S. Supporting turkey, is that the right move . As he said before, it is a country that does seem to be moving away from democracy. Its always the right move to support our values and certainly when theres a violation of our values is this so clearly is, we should stay on the right side. This trend that they were nations who are willing to enter into the sovereign territory of another nation and do harm to individuals they are silence them because they have voices or are criticizing another nation is a dangerous threshold and we need to make certain we stand strong. Melissa do you think of that strength its getting bigger or focusing on these things right now . I think the people are getting more brazen, so we need to make sure that we are willing to take action to stop that. These are not issues where they went after terrorists or went after actual international threats. These are trying to silence individuals. Melissa interesting. Thank you for joining us today, we appreciate it. For more, lets bring in jonathan chancellor, Vice President of the foundation for defense of democracy. Thank you for joining us. Let me start with the release of faster brunson, whats your take on that . Its long overdue with this guide is suffered for doing nothing. The way i would describe it as its been hostage diplomacy. Things the turkish government wants from the United States, holding him against their will and trying to use them as a bargaining chip. We have to hope of course that the administration has not offered anything up in return but rather that it was simply u. S. Pressure that led to his release today. Melissa do we know . Will be ever now . There were rumors over the summer of the banker that was indicted and put in jail earlier this year involved in an iran sanctions busting case. There were rumors that he may have had some kind of role in all of this back in the summer but that deal fell apart. Right now the administration is denying there was any such deal we have to hope thats exactly the case that we dont cave to this kind of pressure from autocracies like turkey. Melissa and we dont immediately provide sanctions relief in response to doing what you shouldve done anyway is another major issue, yes . Thats exactly right. Melissa what is change our relationship with turkey as i was talking about with our last guest, it has been strained and the president has been criticized for ostensibly serving a nato ally under the bus and being furious about this conflict is going on here. Now that its resolved, does it make things better and was it right to criticize the president for speaking out and being angry and frustrated about the situation . Turkey has thrown itself under the bus. Turkey is a sponsor of hamas, there a sponsor of a Jihadist Organization including splinter factions of al qaeda. They have helped iran against sanctions, they are just destroying their own democracy. So we have every right in the world to challenge the turks. Im glad to see this outcome. I dont believe that ties are going to magically improve overnight. I think there are significant differences that remain with our two countries and i think a lot of it has to do with the leadership of president or to juan. Melissa were to be go from here . First, lets get past her brunson home and celebrate that. Lets engage with turkey on some of the issues that we still find problematic and see if perhaps this was a change in behavior or a broader change in behavior on the part of the turkish president. If it wasnt, i suspect there will be other battles ahead. Melissa what is your take on how the saudi situation fits into that whole puzzle . I dont know if you heard our guest before talking about the idea that they would be looking for our support as they tried to figure out what happened on their soil to another person at the same time as you mention, they dont have a great human rights record themselves. Its true. The turks have themselves engaged in illegal rendition of members of the network, this is a network that they blame for the failed coup of 2,016 and again, mention theyre cracking down on journalists themselves. This does not exonerate turkey in any way. The turks have specific proof, they should put it out there. We should know exactly what happened and if the saudis were responsible, they should be held responsible for it in the United States should be helping in that regard. Melissa thank you. The death toll continuing to rise in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael as president s returned to neighborhoods that look like war zones. We are live in one of the hardest hit places, plus our President Trumps lawyers close to a deal with special Counsel Robert Mueller on answering questions in the Russian Investigation . John roberts with the latest, thats next. No matter who rides point, there are over 10,000 allstate agents riding sweep. Call one today. Are you in good hands . As one of the nations largest investors in infrastructure, we dont just help power the american dream, were part of it. This is our era. This is Americas Energy era. Nextera energy. Melissa a fox news alert, the death toll continues to rise in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael rescue and Recovery Efforts in full swing across five states. Michael causing unbelievable damage to homes and businesses. In leaving more than 1 Million People without power. Rick leventhal is in panama city, florida, one of the hardest hit places. The only good news we can report is that its a clear sunny day which makes the job easier for First Responders and utility crews and cleanup crews to try to get this place somewhere near normal. But the issues are too great to even describe it as he looked down 23rd street, youre looking at a line of cars. We cant even show you the end of this gas line. It stretches for blocks and blocks and blocks, hundreds of cars, people have been waiting for hours in some cases. Show them the gas station there at sams club which is now open, but again, the weight is dramatic for these folks who are desperate for fuel and desperate for food and dry goods in that store sams club actually did opened its doors for a few hours yesterday and is open again today. We saw lines of hundreds of people there with shopping carts waiting to get inside and what they did get inside, there was one section open where they could pick up cases of water, bags of charcoal and some dry food and we talk to some of those people. Im tremendously grateful. Im just glad to be alive. You see the devastation. I didnt really go in there with us at things that i needed, just a plan. Needed stuff that didnt need to be refrigerated that we could eat. There is no Running Water in bay county, and there are some 350,000 people without power across the state of florida, 90 of the folks here in bay county are in the dark and we are being told that it could be a month before the electricity is restored in part because it seems like this. Massive utility poles that are down on the street from us is all over the city and all over this county. Melissa i know that every storm is different and presents its own set of hurdles. What would you say if you had to say whats the biggest problem . Obviously the idea of no Running Water is a huge challenge, what do you do about that, but what is the biggest problem . One of the biggest problems is the storm gathered strength so quickly and move so fast and authorities didnt have as much time to preposition assets as they normally would and i dont know this for sure but they may have preposition fewer assets because it was a 1 aura 2, and that it was a 4. And it came in here and did more damage than they perhaps they thought it would. So weve heard from a lot of people that theyre not getting the resources they need as quickly as they need them, but the main issue here as weve been talking about are the blocked roads and the downed power lines on the down trees and officials telling the people here in bay county if you evacuate, stay evacuated. And if you stayed home and wrote out the storm, maybe its time to go now because it could be a month before you get Running Water and power back on. Melissa unbelievable, rick leventhal, thank you. Another fox news alert come on several news outlets now reporting that President Trumps legal team is preparing written answers to questions from special Counsel Robert Mueller on possible collusion with russia but sources tell fox news no final agreement is in place. Just yesterday, the president was asked whether he would agree to a facetoface interview with mueller. It seems ridiculous that i have to do when everybody says theres no collusion but ill do what is necessary to get it over with. Spend tens of millions of dollars doing this and its a disgrace. Melissa chief White House Correspondent john roberts is live with the latest. Good afternoon to you, let stress that there was no deal in a place between the president and the president s attorneys and Robert Mueller to submit to any kind of an interview whether it be an in person interview, written answers to written questions or whatever. And if there is a deal, it would most likely be that they would be written answers to a question submitted by the special counsels office. That said with the election looming, the president s attorneys are preparing for the possibility that there may be a deal in place before the election and so theyre just making sure that their ducks are in a row, theyve got the questions pared down to a reasonable number that they want to answer and of course, he would start to potentially write out potential answers to questions just to know what youve got. The last time that there was a back and forth between Robert Mullers office on the president s attorneys, there seem to be some sort of operating principle that the questions would only go to russia and possible collusion on the part of the trump campaign, they would not be any questions on when obstruction of justice or article to issues but theres no agreement in place and actually got off the phone was somebody who is familiar with all of this was at its potentially less likely that this happens then more likely that it happens. And if it doesnt happen before the election, its possible that it might not happen at all because the Mueller Investigation continues to drag on and on and the president s attorneys have been on record as saying that they think its time to draw this whole thing to a close. So where we are right now, the two sides are still talking. The president s attorneys are making preparations that they think they need to have in place in case there is a deal struck. But there is no deal at the moment. Melissa john roberts, thank you for that. For more on all of this, lets bring a democratic congressman John Garamendi of california. Thank you for joining us. Do you believe theres an offer out there to answer questions in a written format that something that will go ahead . It certainly part of the process and i wouldnt be surprised if that does happen. Im certainly here in california at the moment, you just heard john roberts was there at the white house, he is much more uptodate on it. He says there is no deal at the moment. Ill buy that. But one thing we do know is the Mueller Investigation continues to do its work trying to seek the truth of what happened during the 2016 election and we need to get to the bottom of this Law Enforcement issue and hopefully will be done sooner than later. Melissa do you think its fair that it dragged on so long . It has been now continuing for quite some time, and the uncertainty leaves americans unsure what happened, whats going on, and it does sort of hang a cloud over everything that everyone is trying to do. There is no doubt about the cloud. It is they are. And it has gone on for some time. But its also been a very rocky road along the way with various elements pushing into the investigation at one time or another. The various committees in
