He saw the boat at night trying to take the mine off and successfully took it off the boat. That was exposed, and that was their boat, that was them. They didnt want the evidence left behind. I guess they dont know that we have things that we can detect in the dark. Harris National Security correspondent jennifer griffin, morneau from the pentagon. Jennifer . Harris, weve just learned from a senior u. S. Defense official that the iranians have small boats surrounding one of those disabled oil tankers and they are preventing the norwegians from towing that disabled tanker away. They put out a press release saying they had rescued all 44 of the sailors on these two disabled tankers. U. S. Officials now tell us one of the two tanker crews were in fact detained by the iranians thursday after first being rescued by another merchant vessel. One of the crew member spoke earlier today on the Iranian State tv. I am from russia. Their service was excellent, they have hosted us very well. Everything is fine. We are told this is a propaganda video. Only 23 sailors are present in this video. The u. S. Navy says it rescued 21 sailors from the other tanker that was attacked. The u. S. Central command release of this photo showing what it says is an unexploded mine attached to one of the holes of the tinkers attacked outside the persian gulf thursday. This video also released by the u. S. Military shows what it claims is proof of irans involvement in the attacks. Officials say this Iranian Islamic Revolutionary guard but later removed that unexploded mine from the whole of the ship. The suspected iranians are wearing life jackets, not a bomb disposal gear, to handle live ordinance. The japaneseowned tanker was damaged in the gulf of oman as japans Prime Minister visited tehran. Iran denies it played any role in the attacks. U. S. Officials say all 21 sailors from the japaneseowned tanker were rescued by the americanguided missile destroyer bainbridge and have been treated and returned to their shape and are preparing to tow the stricken vessel back to ports. They remain nearby lurking around the damage hole. Both attacks took place roughly 20 miles from iranian shores near the street of hormuz, that strategic waterway were 20 of the worlds oil flows each year. On the guided missile destroyer has been dispatched to the scene to ensure iranian vessels stay away from commercial shipping. Officials say the unexploded mine is the same type used to attack four oil tankers last month in the same area and attacked the secretary of state also blamed on iran. Its also important to remember those 23 sailors detained by iran have not been held for nearly two days. Harris . Harris that is so interesting to see almost an investigation into this kind of rollout in real time in front of our eyes, with all those details. Jennifer, thank you very much. I want to bring a now retired u. S. Army Major General bob scales. Served over 30 years in the u. S. Military and as a former commandant of the army war college. Great to see you, its been a while. General scales, lets get to that immediacy that jennifer just gave us. That the iranians have surrounded that oil tanker right now and are preventing it from being towed. One of those that was hit. What is next . Whats next is iran is going to continue to escalate their rather hamhanded attempt to intimidate the west to sort of arrange for the sanctions to be lifted. This is really amateur hour. They put a total of six mines on four in different. They used an amateur drone to try and bomb a saudi pipeline. They fired rockets into kabul. This is a very poorly executed attempt by the iranians to make themselves relevant, and sadly i think we will see in the future will be a faceoff between the u. S. Navy and the iranians. Its not going to end well for them. Harris i want to ask you, did this move us closer to a possibility of war with iran . Because first of all, lets be very clear this is not war in the sense that we think of it. The iranian navy comes from bass pro shops. They are motorboats, they have no air force. Their most vulnerable naval bases only about 20 miles away from where our ships are right now. Weve only got to go frigates in the area but we have the fifth for fleet, its a powerful force that can be reinforced very quickly by other fleets, particularly in the mediterranean. This does not bode well for the iranians. Why they are doing it, politically, what they hope to gain politically, absolutely defies logic. Harris they have a nasty history of taking hostages. When you hear about us going to the rescue of some of the people on these tankers and then possibly they may have people they can get their hands on, surrounding an oil tanker, preventing it from moving, that is their currency. Hostagetaking. Yeah, but im not concerned about these crewmen from the tanker. They have no political currency for the iranians. The iranians eventually will let them go. I think the great fear here, harris, as you mentioned earlier, his miscalculation. The iranians think they can influence World Opinion by doing it. Its merely a pinprick when it comes to real effects on security in the middle east. The United States navy is standing by to escalate, and even if the navy escalates, this will be like remember the tanker boards of the 80s . It will be that serious, harris. Harris i want to get to this earlier, a democrat new in new jersey blamed the Trump Administration for irans acts in the middle east. Watch. Speak of the administration has been thumping his chest recently and saying they have restore deterrence against iran. This is indeed entering the attack, it doesnt look like iran is deterred. Looks like they have been provoked by this maximum pressure policy into doing increasingly dangerous things. Harris and you say what . I say this is a long way from the russian invasion of the ukraine or the war fought in georgia or the faceoff with china in the south china sea. Harris, this is amateur hour. These guys are stumbling around trying to make a point and so far it hasnt come off well for them. Harris one thing i think of, though, when you see terrorist regimes around the world, is sometimes they will try to hit the homeland. If youve surrounded them in their own area, they are going to theyve got frenemies around the world who conducive to us at home. What are your thoughts on that . I think you nailed it, that the longterm threat. The great enemy here is hamas and hezbollah. They are client regimes with the iranians. If they want to hit a home run, sadly it wont necessarily be against us. It may very well be against israel because they are the closest target to iran. But i think he had administration actually is handling this incredibly well. They are lowkeyi enjoy it. Thereve been no counter strikes by the navy. They are putting pressure on the radiance. Thats right thing to do for the moment. Lets deescalate this and let the iranians go back into their hole. Harris some recent polling shows the American People feel the president is right about where he should be, both of them. Another food so you could be tougher , something hes not tough enough. Where do you think the pressure is on iran . I think its about right. At the great fear in addition to hezbollahs them getting nuclear weapons. If they cant control the revolutionary guard, if they are that hamhanded when theyre dealing with mines, god forbid how the iranians are going to handle the security of nuclear weapons, should they ever attain them. That really is the long term, the long game, the existential threat here. Thats what we must guard against, once up a time, harris. Thats exactly what this demonstration is doing. Harris always good to talk to you and get your experience and perspective. Major general bob scales on the program today. Thank you. Thank you, harris. Harris another fox news alert, President Trump today is defending his comments about being open to accepting information on his 2020 upon it from a Foreign Government. But also saying he would go to the fbi. This, amid backlash from some lawmakers in both political parties. Now the president telling fox friends comments being misinterpreted. First of all, i dont think anyone would present me with anything because they know how much i love this country. Nobodys going to present me with anything bad. Number two, if you dont look at it you arent going to know if its bad. How will you know if its bad . But of course you give it to the fbi or report it the attorney general or somebody like that. But of course you do that. You couldnt have that happen with our country. And everybody understands that. I thought it was made clear. Harris kevin corke live outside the white house with the latest. Kevin . Pico harris, to quote the great cool hand luke, what we have is a failure to communicate. Its the president s speaking style. Sort of shorthanded. It works very well on the stump and sometimes in interviews it can lead to misinterpretations, and that can cause problems. Thats where we are obviously right now. At least if you listen to what he had to say this morning on fox friends. Once again he was left to try and clarify what he was thinking and what he was trying to say when he suggested, yes, he would take dirt on his political opponents from a Foreign Government. I had dinner with the queen. I met with the Prime Minister of the u. K. I was with the head of france, with the head of all these nations, and i constantly am. Constantly talking to them. That puts us in a we have many, many conversations. Im just thinking, gee, if they say they dont like my opponent, am i supposed to report the president of france of the fbi . To be clear, he did say he would turn over that information to the necessary authorities, but the feeling of the white house and in my conversation steady is this a sort of parsing a comment that was obviously meant one way, harris, and then has been misinterpreted. Theres that word again. The president saying that they are doing this to attack him. He also says he understands why critics are saying this, trying to make more out of what he said then they ought to. But let me share with the chairwoman of the fec had to say about it in case theres any misunderstanding. Alan weintraub saying this. Let me make something 100 clear to the American People. And anyone wanting for public office. Its illegal for any person to solicit, accept, receive anything of value from a Foreign National in connection with a u. S. Election. This is not a novel concept. You are going to get the pushback obviously from others who say, what about the clintons did with Christopher Steele . But thats another story. The last thing you want to add is this joe biden, not one to miss an opportunity, also pounced on this yesterday. He said, listen, people, you dont have to make this complicated. Just dont do it. Heres what he said yesterday. Folks, this is simple. American elections should be decided by the American People, not by russia or any other foreign power. Donald trump doesnt think it matters if candidates for presidency except damaging information on other opponents from Foreign Governments. I believe he is dead wrong. Out with a quick, slick ad. Its only 2019. Things are heating up here in washington, harris. Back to you. [laughs] harris not only 2019 its only june [laughter] i know, right . Harris kevin corke, thank you very much. You bet. Harris President Trump is praising Sarah Sanders went after she announced she is stepping down as White House Press secretary after more than three years and with the Trump Administration and his 2016 campaign. The president says Sarah Sanders has been a warrior for mn should run for governor of arkansas. So far no word on the replacement. A fox news alert, the mistry continues as we learn another american has suddenly died on vacation in the Dominican Republic. Her family as suspicious. And demanding answers. After an autopsy report says the 53yearold woman had a heart attack. Steve harrigan joins me now live from the Dominican Republic with the latest. Steve . Harris, the latest death is not something that happened weeks or months ago. It actually happened this week. 53yearold leyla cox from Staten Island new york was here in the dominican public on vacation to celebrate her birthday. Her birthday was sunday, she was found dead in a resort here on monday. Police report the autopsy said it was a heart attack. Her family is not buying that story. They said she was in good health, too young to have a heart attack here at 53. We spoke to her son, will cox, just a short time ago in knoxville. He said he begged his mother not to go to the Dominican Republic because of the stories about tourists dying here. He also said he has been enabled to get a toxicology report. He says he has been told the toxicology machine is broken. We meant to the funeral home where the body is right now, and will cox, the sun, says hes under pressure from dominican officials to either embalm or cremate the body immediately where she will be categorized as a jane doe and he will get no remains. Of course, this is the seventh tourists now, the u. S. Tourists come to die and resorts here in the last several months in the Dominican Republic. They often follow a pattern of taking a drink from minibar. Dominican officials here say theres no connection between any of them. Theyre investigating each death and also look at the possibility of a use of counterfeit alcohol. Of course, tourism here accounts for one fifth of the countrys economy, so they are pushing back hard and trying to fight back on social media to what officials here say is simply a smear campaign. Harris, back to you. Harris s of the death of americans on vacation in a beautiful place, though Dominican Republic, and the toxicology machine is broken. You really feel for this man when you speak to him. His mother died suddenly and he is really unable to get answers. He says dominican officials have put a roadblock every step of the way. Hes trying to find out what happened and to get the body back. Of course, if he does go ahead and cremate that body, he may never get answers to how she actually died. Harris we will follow the facts as they lead us on those reports of that machine, and Steve Harrigan in the dr, thank you for the latest. For the second debate on thursday, the next night, june june 27th, michael bennet, joe biden, Pete Buttigieg, kirsten gillibrand, Kamala Harris, john hickenlooper, Bernie Sanders, eric swalwell, marianne williamson, and andrew yang. Joining me now, former democratic senator and governor from indiana, evan bayh. Good to see you today. Wow it, it seems like a really big stage on either night. Whats your first observation on who is paired with whom . My first observation is that all these candidates, although they are in the debate stage, it will make it to the first was in iowa because they will run out of money. That traditionally has happened. About half probably wont even make it to the first vote. Second, its hard to break through when you got ten people on the stage. Thats really hard to do. My guess is they will try one of two things. Since this will be largely Party Activists who tend to be more liberal tuning and they will move to the left. Or they will try and come up with creative ways to criticize Presiden
