Mason, a second destroyer, has arrived on station to support the u. S. S. Banbridge and help protect the japaneseowned tanker. The two tankers remain roughly ten miles apart in the gulf of oman. Earlier today, u. S. Officials told us four tugboats contracted to pull the norwegianowned tanker, have been prevented from doing so but i rannian gun boats that have surrounded that striken tanker. At first, the iranians put out a press release saying they rescued all 44 of the sailors on the two disabled tankers. Officials tell us one of the two tanker crews were in fact detained by the iranians thursday after being rescued by another merchant vessel. One of the crew spoke earlier today on Iranian State t. V.
