FOXNEWSW Special Report With Bret Baier June 14, 2019

Championship. During the next hour, we will bring you behind the scenes of our National Championship and look back at some of its greatest moments here at pebble beach. First up, though, President Trump saying he knows iran is responsible for a recent series of tanker attacks and his Defense Department providing what it says is video evidence. Correspondent, kevin corke, is at the white house to show us tonight. Good evening, kevin. Evening, bret. What it purports to show, if its accurate, the iranians are behind a series of attacks in the region. Thats what the president believes. Happy birthday to you. Reporter a happy 73rd birthday serenade for President Trump in the white house. While his attention in the rose garden was on domestic policy, earlier, he took about irans behavior. One of the mines didnt explode and it has iran written all over it. Reporter what iran did, the president surmised, was attack oil tankers this week. Footage showing them attempting to remove unexploded evidence from a tanker. They didnt want the evidence left behind. They dont know we have things that we can detect in the dark that work well. Reporter the foreign minister said this was proof that the u. S. Has sabotaged diplomacy. This incident comes a month after four oil tankers were damaged in attacks that the frum adm Trump Administration blamed on iran. We had 14 different sites of conflict. They were in charge of every single place. They really are. They are a nation of terror. They have changed a lot since i have been president. Reporter while some have suggested continued iranian aggression could hasten the drumbeat toward war, President Trump told fox news that thanks to his outreach towards kim jongun, the u. S. Averted a war with north korea. The papers couldnt believe when we had the first meeting. They couldnt believe when we had the second. We never had meetings. If i wasnt president , you would right now be in a major war with north korea. Reporter still, a war of another kind, a trade wore with china, they continue to worry investigators across the globe. With the g20 meetings set for later this month, the president showed little interest in changing course to make a deal with beijing. It doesnt matter. If he shows up, good. If he doesnt, in the meantime we are taking in billions of dollars a month from china. Eventually, they are going to make a deal. Reporter the president said there is no way he is going to fire kellyanne conway, counselor to the president , despite a recommendation from a Government Group which said she has been a repeated violator of the hatch act. The president said the office of special counsel is trying to take away her right to free speech. Bret. Kevin corke, live on the north lawn, thanks. Turkeys foreign minister says his country will retaliate against u. S. Sanctions over their decision to purchase a russianmade missile system. The u. S. Says it is a threat to the f35 Fighter Jet Program and has told turkey it will not receive the sophisticated jets it has purchased. The United Nations says a Record Number of venezuelan migrants have crossed into peru. Starting tomorrow, peru will demand passports and visas from venezuelan migrants, requirements that many will not be able to meet. President trump appears to be backtracking on that comment that brought such massive criticism this week. He now says he might contact the fbi if offered Opposition Research for the 2020 election from a foreign source. Chief intelligence correspondent, katherine hairage shows us tonight. Reporter in a phone interview with fox, the president clarified his position on whether he would accept information from a Foreign Government about his political opponents. If i dont listen, you are not going to know. If i thought anything was incorrect or badly stated, i would report it to the attorney general, the fbi, law enforcement. That appears to be a firmer position than the abc news interview. If i thought there was something wrong, i would go maybe to the fbi. Reporter the capitol hill critics encourage the president of foreign meddling. He multiplied the threat. This is a bedrock principle of this country. Reporter the president disputed claims. He told former white house counsel, don mcgahn, to get rid of special council, robert mueller. Thats what he said. I dont care what he says. It doesnt matter. That was to show everyone what a good counsel he was. Reporter they lay out the episode report. The president asked mcgahn, did i say the word fire . Mcgahn responded, what you said is call Deputy Attorney general Rod Rosenstein an tell him that mueller has conflicts and cant be the special counsel. The president said he never saw that and leave it to him to decide what to do. It is a very sad thing, that he does not know right from wrong. I believe he has been involved in a criminal coverup. I call her nervous nancy. She is a nervous wreck. Ill tell you what, for her to make a Statement Like that is outrageous. Her party got caught spying. They will not get mcgahns testimony unless the white house allows it. They have ordered mike flynn and his new legal team to appear in a d. C. Court next week for a status hearing on his sentencing. A speculation flynn may take a new, more aggressive report. Thank you. The Justice Department has just released its legal opinion about why it is refusing to release the president s tax returns . The house ways and Means Committee subpoenaed six years of those returns. They say it amounts to an unprecedented use of the committees authority. It says the request also raises a serious risk of abuse. This just happened. We dont have a reaction yet from democrats. Well work to get that. Stocks were up. The dow lost 17. The nasdaq fell 40. For the week, the dow and the s p 500 were both up close to. 5. The nasdaq gained 0. 7. We know the lineup for the democrat debate. It is causing some consternation in the ranks. Peter doocy has details. Democrats dont debate in miami for two weeks. There is already trouble in paradise. What the dnc wanted was more random zation. When four out of the top five wound up assigned to the same stage after a random drawing designed to spread the top tier out, the dnc says nbc News Executives picked ratings over randomness deciding the stack group would be on the second night. The dnc didnt get what they bargained for. We wanted more transparency. We were clear. President trump had three possible nominees, elizabeth warren, Bernie Sanders, or joe biden. He doesnt have what it takes. It means mental capacity. It means a plot of different things. Reporter biden seized on trumps comments about hearing out Foreign Government with dirt on democrats before that. The Trump Campaign tells fox they do not dispute an abc news report about internal polls shows biden is up on trump in pennsylvania, wisconsin and florida. Campaign manager said these leaked numbers are ancient in Campaign Terms before two major events had occurred, the release of the Mueller Report exonerating the president and the beginning of the democrat candidates defining themselves with their far left policy message. Every poll i see and every poll we have, we are doing well. Reporter biden still hasnt been endorsed by barack obama and if his successor, mike pence runs, he might not be able to count on his president s endorsement either. I certainly would give it very strong consideration. Thats a signal to everybody who serves under President Trump and might want the oval office for themselves someday, that his support is still up for grabs. If pence has any heart feelings, he is hiding them. The president hosted a rose garden event this afternoon and the v. P. Showed up. Bret . Peter doocy, nbc. Thanks. Out here in california, californias democrat attorney general is taking President Trump to court over his plans to build a border wall. This comes as the president says, he is bringing back a familiar figure to help the immigration effort. Jonathan hunt reports. Reporter President Trumps announcement came as a surprise to everyone this morning on fox friends. Tom harmon is coming back. I would say that would be announced next week, except i would rather announce it now. Reporter he is the former acting and immigration customs director and has more recently been a Fox News Contributor and in the president s view is one of the strong people he needs at the border. He will be a border czar and reporting directly to me. He will be probably working out of the white house but spending a lot of time at the border. He is a good man. Reporter homan knows all too well that immigrations is one of the president s toughest issues, not the least because of the on going legal challenges to a number of aspects of the administrations policies. The latest legal challenge being led by california where state attorney general, javier bocera, has just signed a lawsuit. New mexico has also joined the lawsuit. It argues that President Trump has illegally diverted 2. 5 billion in Defense Department funds to pay for the wall. He tweeted after the filing that the president s actions are unlawful, threaten our Democratic Institutions and cause irreparable harm. The president sounded more determined than ever. The wall is going up. It is going up rapidly. We are going to have more than 400 miles of wall built by the end of next year. As the president s announcement of his new border czar, it appears he may have jumped the gun. Tom homan tells us the white house has reached out to him. There have been discussions but he has not made a decision. Bret . Whats at stake this weekend at the u. S. Open Golf Championship here at pebble beach . We will talk to the man running the show. Here are what some of our fox affiliates are covering. Opens past right here at pebble beach. 2019 mashes the centennial celebration of americas gift to golf. The tranquil setting is a link to iconic moments in u. S. Open histo history. What a shot. That is the third open championship, the 13th major. The conditions now that he has to play the shot to test anyone. Looks good. Do you believe it . Bob watson pitching into the hole for a birdie has taken the lead for the u. S. Open. What a way to win and finish. He wins it by two. The greatest golfer of them all. Hit it, hit it. Yeah at last, at the age of 42, has won his first major championship, the u. S. Open. Tiger woods is the 100th u. S. Open champion. He is the u. S. Open champion at pebble beach. Just saw grant mcdowell tee off behind us. Lets go behind the scenes. Mike davis is the ceo of the United States Golf Association which runs this tournament. Thank you for doing this. Great to have you here. This, obviously, the trophy, we saw it last year. Thanks for bringing it along. Names engraved there from 1895. Pretty amazing. This is a big deal for you every year but really special to be here at pebble. It is, bret. There is something magical about pebble beach. People know it. It is open to the public. In so many ways, it really is a National Golf treasure in your highlights there. There is something magical that always happens, some of the greats. You think of Jack Nicklaus winning here and tom watson and the greatest performance in a major of all times was tiger woods in 2000, when he won by 15 slot shots. It is great to be back here. It is a greatest of golf. The course is beautiful. The players say it is playing great. That has to make you feel good. In previous opens, there are some players who have been not so quiet about their displeasure about the golf courses of the past. You are right. Listen, that goes back a century where there has always been some tension between players in the u. S. This is the toughest test of golf they see all year long. It is played on some of our countrys very best golf courses. So far, it has been a docile pebble beach. It hasnt been windy yet. There is still enough moisture in the ground where the balls can hold. We have the weekend to go. Well see what happens. What does this mean for you for your organization and growing the game . Thats a concern for a lot of people in golf. You know, bret, much of the revenue that we have as a nonprofit is made this week. So we invest over 200 million every year straight back into the game. Its not only junior Golf Programs and what we do in governance with the rules and equipment and handicap system but turf grass research, new varieties and strains that dont require as much water and as much pesticides. There is a real focus on the amount of water. There is a great story the last decade to be told where in the United States we are using 22 less water than we used to. So its good. This week, it is so important not only for the u. S. Open but really for the game. We have a lot of golf fans, obviously. There are people who dont watch golf. This is the National Championship. Thats why it is a big deal. It is. They all want to win it. It is a major. You dont have to just be from the United States to want to win this thing. Golfers around the world want to win this. It is an open championship in the sense that we have almost 10,000 people who try to qualify for this. They are living that dream. For them to come here and to play an iconic place like pebble beach and to try to get this and win that gold medal is something really magical. You can see the group over the shoulder there heading to the first tee getting ready to start their round. Cuts later on today. It is. This is the time when i think some nerves come up. It is great. We have a fantastic leaderboard right now. It is interesting. When we play it in Pacific Coast time, those back east in the United States and midwest, they can watch it much later than if it was an east coast event. On fox sports. On fox sports, thats right. Thanks so much. Appreciate the time. Thanks. Up next, our whatever happened to segment on the continuing danger from the cause of the worst fire in Great Britain since world war ii.
