Is even there has prevented me from using the
Constitutional Authority
that we are given under the recess provisions. The senate should either fulfill its duty and vote on my nominee is or it should formally adjourn so that i can make recess appointments. We have a tremendous number of people that have to come into government and now more so than ever before because of the virus and the problem. We have to do it, we have to do whatever we have to do. It made it very difficult to run government, i dont think any administration is done anywhere near what weve done in three and a half years but every block, every week they put up roadblocks. Whether its russia, russia, russia, or impeachment hoax, or whatever it may be. Its always roadblocks and a waste of time. If the house will not agree to that adjournment, i will exercise my
Constitutional Authority
to adjourn both chambers of congress. The
Current Practice
of leaving town while conducting phony pro forma sessions is a dereliction of duty that the
American People
cannot afford during this crisis. It is a scam what they do. Its a scam and
Everybody Knows
it and its been that way for a long time. Perhaps its never been done before, no one is even sure if it has but we are going to do it. We need these people here, we need people for this crisis and we dont want to play anymore political games. Ive been waiting for two and a half years, three years for some of these people. They left law firms, they left jobs, they gave up everything to do it three years, two years, to get approved and everyone knows theyre going to be approved. Theres only so many hours in the day when you go through judges and you go through lengthy hearings on judges that they know should be approved immediately and they could do it in one session, they could do it in one hour. Instead it takes them many days. In order to advance the health and security of our nation, the u. S. Government has put a hold on funding to the w. H. O. ,
World Health Organization
. Pending a review of the organizations coverup and mismanagement of the coronavirus outbreak over the objections of the w. H. O. , we took
Decisive Action
and early lifesaving action to suspend travel from china. They didnt want to do it, they were angry that we did it. It was early on, they were angry that we did it, it took them a long time to realize but i have a feeling they knew exactly what was going on. Tragically, other nations put their trust in the w. H. O. And they didnt do any form of ban. You see what happened in italy can be see what happened to spain can you see what happened to france. W. H. O. s guidance had failed to control their borders at a very crucial phase, quickly unleashing the contagion around the world. It was a horrible tragic mistake or perhaps they knew. Im sure they didnt know the gravity of it but perhaps they knew because if they knew the gravity, that would be an even worse offense. To ease the economic pain of millions of american families, we have now processed 300 billion in loans to more than 1 million
Small Businesses
through the
Paycheck Protection Program
. This action has saved millions of american jobs, its been an incredible success and they want to replenish it now. The democrats dont want to do that, this is money that goes to the workers of our country. Phase one was 350 billion and now face two, this goes to workers and it goes to
Small Businesses
so we can save all the
Small Businesses
around our nation. Mike mcfarlane from nebraska recently said this historic relief has been a godsend for his small factory and the 136 americans who work there, save those jobs. Another
Small Business
owner tim miller from oklahoma called the program a total lifesaver, for his auto repair shops. Its stories like these underscore why
Congress Must
replenish the
Paycheck Protection Program
immediately, the republicans want to do it, they want to do it immediately and do it now. The democrats are stopping it. A short time ago, cdc issued a
Public Health
for
Critical Industries
. In a few moments, agricultural secretary sonny perdue will elaborate on how these guidelines apply to our nations dedicated workers the
Food Processing
profession its a profession, its incredible what they do. Food processing and they are keeping our
Grocery Stores
full. The shelves are not bare like the shelves i inherited when we took over the stockpile. The shelves were bare, the cupboard was bare. Tomorrow, ill also be leading with elected officials who will consult with my administration as we work to restore our economy to full speed and we really think all of the stimulus and the pentup demand, we are going to have an economy that comes back quickly and we would like to see it more than match what we had before. What we had was a miracle and we think this is going to be more than a miracle, we are going to do it because we have the greatest people in the world. Well also be speaking to americas governors tomorrow and announce exactly whats happen happened. Some states opened much sooner than others and we think some states can actually open up before the deadline of may 1st. I think that will be a very exciting time indeed. Governors are chomping at the bit to get going. Not all states are the same, they are very different. Some are having problems, some are doing such a good job there have a little problem and they are ready to go. Vice president mike pence and i will be speaking with governors tomorrow. Today i spoke with leaders of many of our nations most
Renowned Companies
and organizations on how to achieve the full resurgence of the
American Economy
. My discussions included top leaders in health and health care, transportation, technology, financial services, food, hospitality, real estate, agriculture, manufacturing, and sports industries. We want to have our sports leagues open, you want to watch sports, we miss sports, we miss everything. These experts and innovators provide extremely productive feedback on how to safely reboot our economy, they gave us a lot of great ideas, we spoke to a lot of very smart people the highest of the high tech. The level of iq on some of those calls was about the highest ever seen in a phone call, that i can tell you. A lot of great thought went into those calls. Questions came out and also statements, i think it was a great day. We did a lot of calling with a lot of very prominent people, smart people, people that love our country. They talked about the vital importance of belief measures to address the present crisis and it provided valuable insights on how to move forward, including on the role of protective gear where we have tremendous amounts of protective gear coming in. Robust testing and the future use of therapies and treatments. They also underscored the crucial importance of strong supply chains and communications infrastructure. We are talking about infrastructure for the middle of our country, broadband and things that they frankly dont have and havent had for a long time because a lot of politicians forgot about them you cant forget about them. They are really the heart and soul, cant forget about them. We are talking about the telemedical its a new thing and its incredible what they have been able to do. This is an industry that has been growing, its grown by leaps and bounds over the last five weeks. People are learning so much, without the ability to see a doctor, they are learning so much and a lot of good things are happening. Its something
Going Forward
i think going to be very important for our country. As weve seen throughout our proud history, america is never greater then when our people are working in unison toward a common goal, that is what is happening right now. Well forge an even
Brighter Future
today and along with other nations hopefully we are working with other nations, well be the comeback kids, all of us. Its incredible whats going on im very proud of the people of this country, im very proud of the people i spoke to today. These are great, brilliant people and we have gained tremendous insight. Tomorrow is going to be a very big day, we are going to be speaking with the governors, we have information on some openings and we will have some openings that exceed our expectations. They will be safe, they will be strong but we want to get our country back, we want to get our country back and we are going to do it and do it soon. With that, i would like to ask dr. Birx to come up and say a few words and secretary sonny perdue. And then
Vice President
pence, thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you, mr. President. Thank you for summarizing what we are seeing. Over the last five, six days, weve seen declines in cases across the country and this has been very reassuring for us. At the same time we know that the fatalities we are facing across the
United States
continue, we know the people who are still in the hospitals and the icus and we want to continue to recognize the
Health Care Workers
who are on the front lines and recognize how low the
United States
case fatality rates are compared to other countries and this is really do not only to our technology but how that technology is utilized to save lives. At the same time, im inspired by the
American People
who continue social distancing. These cases continue to decline because of the strong work of the
American People
. I wanted to let you know that we do have nine states that have less than a thousand cases and less than 30 new cases per day. We are looking at states and metro areas as individual areas. We talked before how each of these curves are different, each of the experiences are different. We have some states like california and washington state, oregon, that never really had a peak because of so much work that their populations did to decrease and keep the new cases down. Each of these individual states and individual metros are being studied very specifically. I do want to highlight and we are remaining concerned and having ca discussions with
Rhode Island Providence
is a unique situation. Increasing cases from the new york city area now they have increasing cases from the boston area, they are caught between two incredible hot spots in the country. They are doing an extraordinary job, caring for the individuals on the front lines. Providence continues to have new cases and we continue to work with specific states that have specific outbreaks related to individual occurrences. I will remind the
American People
again, this is a highly contagious virus. Social gatherings, coming together, theres always a chance that an asymptomatic person can spread the virus unknowingly. No one is intending to spread the virus we know if you are sick, you will stay home. To all of you that are out there that would like to join together and have that dinner party, dont do it yet. Continue to follow the president ial guidelines, we appreciate the work of the
American People
. We see as a country we are improving, metro areas are improving, as communities and counties and states are improving but that also still requires everyone to continue to social distance. In the end, we do have states that have very few cases and very few new cases. These are what the president is referring to that have been silent, relatively silent throughout this epidemic and pandemic that many of us have faced. These are the groups we are working with very specifically and each of these governors and each of these mayors will have to make decisions after generalized guidelines are put out so they can do whats best for their communities, they are the front lines. I wanted to conclude by really thanking my teams around the world who have been working tirelessly throughout to ensure that africa and asia doesnt experience this level of infections that we have seen here, they have turned over their capacities from their embassies, our ambassadors throughout the world are still on the front line with our local staff working with ministries of health to confront this virus around the globe. I assure you they are continuing to invest in the health structures, the laboratory and the frontline care to ensure that all of the work we have done against hiv and malaria continuous but we use our capacity, our laboratories, our clinics, are hospitals that have been billed by the
American People
and the generosity of the
American People
to really combat this covid19 around the globe. President trump sonny, please. Thank you for this opportunity to be here with you today, i want you to know its an honor to represent you in leading the department of agriculturaagriculture and repre constituents were crucial in maintaining
Food Security
and keep food on the table of our american families, not only just food but wholesome and safe food as well. I would like to start my remarks by echoing what my colleagues at the cdc have been saying regarding the health and safety of our essential employees across the
United States
. Cdc has provided strategies theyre aimed at helping our most critical workers both in health care and in
Food Processing
. To quickly and safely returned to work after potential exposure to covid19. This guidance will help these
Critical Industries
to protect the health and safety of essential workers while keeping critical workers functioning throughout the covid19 response. Any employee who developed symptoms on the job should go home immediately and the interim guidance is in line with the cdcs recommendations for
Health Care Workers
caring for those sick with covid19. We appreciate the dedication and commitment of all the brave men and women working to keep their communities fed and we will continue to work with the cdc to keep those individuals as safe as possible during these challenging times. There has been a lot happening this week as covid19 is affecting
Food Processing
facilities as you know, for americans who may be worried about access to good food because of this, i want to assure you that
American Food
supply is strong, resilient, and safe. In fact our
Food Supply Chain
has shown tremendous agility in shifting production and logistics so suddenly from restaurant and institutional settings to retail settings. To all the employers out there in this sector, its critical you follow cdc guidelines and guidance and best practices to keep all of your employees and people safe and healthy. Two employees and local
Public Health
officials, advising them, the cdc has issued guidelines on how to mitigate a situation if you have a positive case in one of your facilities. We need our local
Health Authorities
and state
Health Authorities
to do everything they can to balance the demand of keeping our facilities operational and are
Critical Industries
going while at the same time keeping the health and safety of employees is a top priority as well as our communities. I wanted to take this time to thank all of our critical essential
Food Supply Chain
workers, the entire country is counting on these patriotic individuals by doing the work in our
Food Supply Chain
. These dedicated workers include obviously farmers and producers but also processors, truckers and
Grocery Store
workers as you know. America is depending on you for food, we need to feed our families and you are the ones were making it happen, thank you. As an entire nation, we are thankful for the work you are doing and we recognize you are the true patriotic heroes during this
National Emergency
along with our
Health Care Workers
. Before i sign off, i want to remind you and all of us of one more thing. In the
United States
, we have plenty of food for all of our citizens. I want to be clear, the bear store shelves you may see in some cities in the country are a demand issue, not a supply issue. The way food is prepared and packaged to be sold in a restaurant or a school is significantly different from the way its package for you to buy in the
Grocery Store
. Our supply chain is sophisticated, efficient, integrated and synchronized. It has taken us a few days to relocate to the misalignment between institutional settings and grocery settings. That does not mean that we dont have enough food in this country to feed the
American People
. You might think of it as an interstate, when its flowing along well and you have a crash at one place, it backs up and thats whats happening in the
Food Supply Chain
but we are working through that. Through all of this or
Food Supply Chain
is proven to be very resilient just like the
American People
. To the extent we have challeng challenges, we continue to work through it all together, we can and we will get through this with a
Constitutional Authority that we are given under the recess provisions. Critical Partnership between state and local health officials, management of companies and the employees and we will meet any challenge that we face working together. Thank you for the opportunity. President trump before the
Vice President comes up, i want to say china has paid us billions of dollars, many billions of dollars in tariffs and weve distributed some to the farmers, we have many billions of dollars being held by sonny and ive told him to distribute much of that money to the farmers the farmers were targeted and now they are benefiting by the amount they were targeted. And we are very honored to do that. Hes going to start that process very soon, you will at the farmers know, nobody can take advantage of our farmers. We have a lot of money weve taken in from china, we will be distributing that money from sonny to the farmers and this tremendous money was paid directly into the treasury of the
United States. This has never happened to china before, they never gave us 0. 10, now they are paying us billions of dollars and we appreciate it. Thank you very much, great job. Thank you mr. President. The
White House Coronavirus task force met today, it was reported to us that we have conducted and completed 3 million, 324,000 tests across the nation, more than 619,000 americans have tested positive but as he reflected yesterday when we welcomed coronavirus survivors from across the country, more than 45,000 americans have fully recovered. Sadly, we mourn the loss of more than 27,000 of our countrymen. Our hearts are with their families, and with the families of all of those who continue to struggle with the serious consequences of this illness. As dr. Birx just reflected, despite the heartbreaking losses, we are getting there. Because of the efforts of people all across this country to put into practice the president s coronavirus guidelines, because of their adherence to the direction of state and local authorities, as dr. Birx just reflected, we see great signs of progress on the west coast and east coast. President trump has directed our team to develop new guidelines that will be presented tomorrow to our nations governors and released to the
American People thereafter. The
American People will be encouraged to know as we stand here today, 24 of the counties of this country have no reported coronavirus cases. In fact, half of the states in america have less than 2500 cases per state. This is a great tribute to the efforts of the people of those communities but as the president suggests, when we unveil the guidelines of the team has been working to present tomorrow to our nations governors, we are going to reflect on the fact that as the president said, there will be areas of the country that will require continued mitigation, strong efforts and there will be other areas of the country that will be given guidance for greater flexibility. The president has so directed our team. When we think of more than 619,000 americans having tested positive, more than 45,000 having recovered, we wanted to announce today that the fda recently announced efforts to facilitate the development and access of convalescent plasma youve spoken about this. People who have recovered from the coronavirus have antibodies in your bloodstream that can attack the virus. The mayo clinic today is working with the red cross to make sure the coronavirus patients have access to the convalescent plasma treatments and over a thousand institutions across america have already joined this program. We want to urge every american who has recovered from coronavirus for at least two and preferably four weeks to contact your local blood or
Plasma Donation Center and arrange to donate. Its one more way that the
American People can do their part and step forward. Thousands of already done so when we know that tens of thousands will join them. On the subject of supplies, ill be very brief because you detailed a great amount the air bridge has completed 44 flights, 56 more are scheduled but on the subject of facial masks which are so important for critical infrastructure, im pleased to report that the delivery through the air bridge is 22 million facial masks. The average inventory in the network over a sevenday period is 80
Million Masks and fema is working as we speak to move facial masks to priority infrastructure. There will be 6. 5
Million Masks that go out before the end of this week and an additional 20 million for april 20th. We will be adding 6. 5 million for each and every week. At the president s direction we ensure all of those have access to masks and we are increasing those every day. Finally i know i speak for the president when i say how proud we are of all of our
Health Care Workers across the country and how proud we are of the men and women in uniform who have been deployed across the nation, literally by the thousands. As we stand here today, 576 doctors, nurses, and other military medical professionals have been deployed to 13 hospitals across the nation. Ten in new york and one in connecticut, texas, and louisiana each. As the president reflected a few days ago, because we did not have happily did not have demand on the javits center, at the president s direction, we have deployed doctors and nurses from that facility to two hospitals. We were just speaking to mayor de blasio just before we came out and he expressed his great admiration and appreciation for the relief that these medical personnel had provided to incredibly dedicated people in our hospitals. 258 medical personnel were deployed off the ship into new york. With that, ill step aside but its remarkable to think of all have accomplished accomplished over the last month since you first issued the president ial guidelines for america. The truth is because of what the
American People have done over the last 30 days, we are slowing the spread. We are insuring every
American Family has access to the health care we would want any member of our family to have with the greatest
Health Care Professionals in the world. We are saving lives in healing our land. We want to thank the
American People for all we have done, tomorrow we will be presenting new guidance to the governors on how we will build on our progress and reopen america in a safe and responsible way. Reporter you mentioned the possibility of adjourning both chambers of congress, can you explain what you mean . President trump it simple, if they dont act on getting these people approved that we need, because we need them anyway, but we especially need them now because of the pandemic, we are going to do something that will be something i would prefer not doing but which i should do and i will do if i have to. Reporter on a call to
Business Leaders today, they said testing before they feel comfortable reopening their stores or restaurants, isnt that what
Health Professionals and state governors
President Trump its what i want to, we have great tests, but we are standing behind them. We have great tests, we have done more testing than any country in the world by far, we have the best tests in any country, nobody has the quality of tests. If you look at abbott what they have come up within a short period of time, roach has been incredible. We have the best tests in the world and we will be working very much with the governors of the states. We arent going to be running a parking lot in arkansas, we arent going to be running a parking lot where you have a walmart which has been great, by the way, theyve done a fantastic job where you have a
Testing Center and running that from washington, d. C. , the states are much better equipped to do it. Well to be working with the states, we will work very closely with the governors in terms of getting additional equipment. It used to be three, four weeks ago, two weeks ago, could we get more ventilators more ventilators. We got them ventilators, you dont hear that anymore, its amazing what we have been able to do. [reporter questioning]
President Trump i think the companies will determine that and the governors will determine that and if we are not happy, we will take very strong action against a state or a governor, if we arent happy with the
Java Governor has been doing, will not let know about it and there is very strong action we can take including a close down. We will work closely with the governors, the relationship has been very good. The
Vice President is at a lot of conversations with 50 or almost 50 governors on every conversation and they have been really positive conversations. We would have the right to close down what they are doing, i dont think there will be any reason to do that but we have the right to do that. Reporter whatd you have your name added to these
Coronavirus Relief checks . President trump i dont know too much about it but i understand my name is there, i dont know where they are going, how they are going, i understand its not delaying anything and im satisfied with that. I dont imagine its a big deal, im sure people will be very happy to get a big, fat, beautiful check and my name is on it. Go ahead, please. Reporter rhode island is seeing increasing cases from people coming from boston and new york, you just said you would like to reopen states before may 1st, how will you stop a second spike in cases of people are traveling between states . How will you control the flow of people . President trump the governors can control that flow, i just saw a little while ago it was reported that certain borders are being controlled already by states, starting to take control of their borders which is good. They may do testing for people wanting to come in, i read that about rhode island, they have to watch it, they have to be very careful. Reporter you said along with other nations what form would it take . Are you considering relaxing the border between canada and the u. S. . President trump our relationship with canada is very good, well talk about that, it will be one of the early borders to be released, canada is doing well, we are doing well, at some point we will be doing that. In the meantime, nations that are heavily infected, we have a lot of nations that are heavily infected, some are getting better, some are still on the way up unfortunately. We are keeping strong borders but with canada we are talking about different things. Reporter you said evidence to suggest nationwide we are past the peak on new cases, what is your evidence from that . President trump we are looking at the numbers, looking at our graphs, looking at the models, we are getting great response from debra and tony and the professionals were working with us and i think based on that, we are doing very well. Based on that, it looks like we are headed in the right direction. But some states are looking at other states and they are saying i cant imagine what they are going through because they arent in that position, they are in very good shape. I would say we have 20 states at least but you really have 29 that are in extremely good shape with few exceptions, you have every state that is either doing better or on the way to doing better. Reporter on your threat to
Adjourn Congress, clearly you have the power article two, section three, but that would be quite radical to do. Earlier you were saying that now is not the time for partisanship, how will that lower the partisanship in this town and could hinder your ability to get something done on coronavirus . President trump its been a very partisan government for a long period of time, not justice administration, you can go to the last two administrations, youve seen a lot of partisanship. You would think as an example with the paycheck plan, thats going so well, so smooth, so beautiful, almost without a hitch. All of that money is being distributed to
Small Businesses, they are giving it to their employees, its keeping it viable and it has been so good that it has been almost depleted and we want to replenish it and we cant get the democrats to approve it and thats a program that they and everybody else admit are great. You do have partisanship, we have been trying for years to get people approved for positions. People left one man left a law firm, one man left a very successful executive, he left. If we have people that have been waiting for three years and we cant get them approved by the democrats in the senate because they are taking so long to approve our judges i have to tell you that i am totally in favor of what mitch is doing with judges because that always seems to be a priority and its a very important priority. I think its one of the great trademarks of this administration. We have approved record numbers of federal judges and appellate judges and two
Supreme Court judges but rather than approving somebody who is highly qualified, somebody that
Everybody Knows is going to be approved, rather than going quickly, they take the maximum amount of time, whatever that time may be and what they are doing by doing that is taking days to approve somebody who could be approved in a quick vote. People that get phenomenal reviews and committee are going maximum number of hours and what they do because theres only so many hours in a day. We could have said lets stay i would have been in favor of that, they didnt choose to do it but i have a very strong power, i would rather not use that power. We have weigh over 100 people that we very badly needed in this administration that should have been approved a long time ago and one of them is the head of the voice of america. If you look at what they are doing and what they are saying about our country, its a disgrace, the people that are running that. We have somebody thats really good, really talented and loves our country and i want to get these people approved, thats one of many we have professionals, youve been waiting, how long have you been waiting for the man weve been talking about coming in . Two and a half years. Its sunny purdue, happens to be here, hes been waiting for one of the most important positions as secretary of agriculture, its distribution. We are talking about shelves and cupboards, he needs it. The person is exceptional, that person left a very good job and its embarrassing to me, he will say do you think you will get that man approved, hes been saying that to me for a long time. Its because of the democrats and what we are doing and i think anybody here would do it, judges are a priority, the federal judges going to sit for 50 years, potentially a young judge thats always going to have to be a priority but because they are taking so much time in approving they are trying to put us through. When you talk about partisanship and it is never happened before. You can look at every administration in the history of this country, nobody has ever had hundreds of people not approved after three and a half years. What is the timeline for th that . President trump they are warned right now if they dont approve it, we are going to go this route and we will probably be challenged in court and we will see who wins. But when the court hears that we arent getting people approved, as sonny would say for two and a half years for an important position that we need because of this crisis we needed these people before but now we really need these people. Reporter back to the numbers for a second, when you talk about the numbers, the jobless claims are going to come out tomorrow, its likely around 5 million more americans putting their names in for
Unemployment Benefits but yet there are still a couple thousand people die because of the coronavirus when you talk about opening up the
American Economy now, how do you balance that decision out given both of those figures . President trump there has to be a balance. Theres also death involved in keeping it closed. I believe this so strongly, when you look at the mental health, you look at suicides, suicide hotlines which are exploding, people losing their jobs, when you look at drugs and people who didnt take drugs and now they are becoming drug addicted because they are going through a problem, they have no job, they have no money coming in, other than the money we are getting them weve opened up the coffers to a large extent, we are helping people, this is why the democrats would help us a little bit with it, its purely partisan what they are doing and its bad for our country. There is death by having this strongly close country, we have to get back to work. With all of that being said, we are going to start with states and with governors that have done a great job and they are going to open it up as they see fit and we are going to be right behind them and working and supplying we want them to have them. If we are going to be helping with ventilators after this is over so they cant say the federal government theyve had a lot of options, many of the governors have had a lot of options over the years to buy ventilators, they can choose to do it. We are going to be helping them to fill up their stockpiles, we are going to have plenty. Im very proud to do it, we are going to be helping other nations. Italy, spain, france, other nations, we are going to be helping them strongly, i think russia, they are going to have a hard time in moscow, we are going to help them. Were going to help other countries that need ventilators. You see it with general motors, other companies that are producing, we are going to have hundreds of thousands of ventilators and its a great thing to have. Is anybody freezing . Its very cold out here. We can leave early, right . A couple of more. Reporter why do we have 20 of the worlds deaths and only 4 of the worlds populati population . President trump to think youre getting honest numbers from some of these countries, do you think the numbers in this vast country called china they have a certain number of cases is anybody really believe that . We report everything, we report the cases and are reporting is good, we are reporting every death. In fact i see this morning where new york added 3,000 deaths because they died and they are now saying rather than a heart attack, theyre saying its a heart attack caused by this if you look at it, thats it. Everything we have is documented reported and what they are doing is just in case, they are calling at this thats okay, thats okay. We have more cases because we do more reporting. We have more cases because everything is down but does anybody really believe the numbers of some of these countries that you have been watching and you been reporting on and then its like they didnt have the big thing. There have been some really, really bad heavily and some countries that are in big trouble and they are not reporting the facts. All i know is we report the facts and we are a country thats getting better. Reporter multiple sources are telling fox news today that the
United States government now has high confidence that while the coronavirus is a naturally occurring virus, it emanated from a virology lab in wuhan because of lax safety protocols, and an intern was infected who later infected her boyfriend and went to the wet market in wuhan where it began to spread, does that correspond with what you have heard . And
President Trump i dont want to say that but i will tell you more and more we are hearing the story and well see. When you say multiple sources. We are doing a very thorough examination of this horrible situation. Reporter in your many conversations with president xi, did you ever discuss with him state department concerns about lax safety protocols that had been reported to the state department from the embassy in beijing about that laboratory . President trump i dont want to discuss what i talk to him about the laboratory reporter there have been calls and our country for
Prime Minister
Scott Morrison to make funding w. H. O. Conditiona conditional
President Trump i feel very badly about the
World Health Organization but it has been a tool for china, it has been totally china centric. Everything that has happened, its been wrong. I was all for it in the beginning,
World Health Organization isnt that wonderful . That you see all of the mistakes, they didnt want us to close our borders to china, to wuhan specifically. They didnt want our borders closed. You take a look, mike was there, i did that very early. Nancy pelosi was trying to have parties in chinatown because he thought it would be great, she wanted to show this thing doesnt exist. We have some politicians on the other side that dont know what they are doing. If you look at timelines, the
World Health Organization, just like the wto im telling you, they have been treating the
United States for decades so badly and they have been so in favor of china, china took off when it joined the wto because of what has happened. They are considered a developing nation and we are not, we are developing nation too in my book, we are developing too. The fact is we have been treated so badly by these organizations and believe me, im looking at that one too. We are winning a lot of lawsuits that we never won before, we are winning a lot of money that we never won in the past, with the
World Health Organization what has happened there is a disgrace. Heres the other thing, we pay 400 to 500 million a year, china is paying 35 million a year they control this group, i could do that too if i wanted to devote full time to it and having very capable people i could do very well with that. Theres something going on its very bad. Now the 500 million that we save, well make a determination over little period of time. But they are either going to have to make massive changes, i dont know if theyre going to be able to do that, or we are going to give money to people we want to help people. What we do in africa with aids, people have no idea what we do and the money we spend, we are talking about the other day. We are spending billions of dollars to help people in the case one that dr. Birx is very involved in, millions of dollars. Its a great thing, nobody talks about it, nobody gives us credit. We do it very directly but we are spending billions of dollars to help people all over the world. We are spending 500 million to the
World Health Organization and theres something very bad going on. Ive gotten very much involved, its been going on for a long period of time and we dont want to be the suckers anymore. Big day tomorrow. Reporter did you change your mind . Breaking tonight, we have just watched the daily
Coronavirus Task force briefing at the white house,
President Trump saying the country has passed the peak of the pandemic. We have new information tonight to her john roberts ask about the origins of the coronavirus. Multiple sources say this may be the costliest government coverup of all time by china. You heard the chairman of the joint chiefs ask about outcome of the intelligence was inconclusive but there is a growing belief that the covid19 virus originated in the wuhan lab, not as a bio weapon but as chinas effort to find and deal with viruses to show the world it was as good or better than the u. S. On that front. Its believed the virus was back to human, human to human patient zero, went to the population of wuhan and the virus spread from there. China moved quickly to shut down travel domestically from wuhan to the rest of china but did not immediately stop
International Flights from wuhan. The sources say the
World Health Organization was complicit from the beginning helping china cover its tracks and that is where we begin tonight. Chief
White House Correspondent john roberts starts us off. If you asked about this reporting tonight and got something from the president and part of the reason why the president this coming down so hard on the w. H. O. President trump there certainly has been a change of tone from back in february when the president described the w. H. O. As some of the best and the brightest as clearly this information begins to develop, the president is changing his mind not only about the w. H. O. And about what happened in china. I asked him directly the information you and i had discussed earlier today. He didnt go down the road of a concrete answer but he did suggest that he is looking at that and it is becoming something with the federal government really wants to know a whole lot more about. Bret obviously china has pushed back about this line, the w. H. O. Came out publicly came out and said they were disappointed in the u. S. Decision but the president appears to be warming up to this line of thinking and really the origins of this virus had become a big, big story if it all pans out as these sources are saying. There is no question about that and thats why i asked the president the followup because he speaks to president xi i asked the president if any the conversations he has had in recent months with president xi or even going back a couple of years there is this reporting that we have confirmed now that officials from the u. S. Embassy in beijing visited this virology lab and were concerned enough about a lack of safety protocols there that they cabled back to the state department that something should happen on this front to tighten up their security protocols. Thats why i asked the president if he ever spoke to president xi about that in the president said im not going to tell you what i talked to him about in regard to the laboratory but it does indicate that there may have been a conversation there. In the meantime, all of this new information is swirling. The president still embroiled in the midst of controversy over his decision in the rose garden or at least the announcement that he is going to temporarily cut funding for the
World Health Organization. President trump and his team is standing by his decision to cut funding to the
World Health Organization for 60 to 90 days, the white house insisted the w. H. O. Dropped the ball on the outbreak in china. The return on investment would be for the w. H. O. To be honest about the origin of the virus in wuhan, they lied about that or want transparent about that. The head of the w. H. O. Critical of the decision. This is a time for all of us to be united in our common struggle against a common threat, a dangerous enemy. In a statement
House Speaker
Nancy Pelosi Singh this is another case of the president s ineffective response, a weak person, a poor leader takes no responsibility, a weak person blames others. This decision is dangerous, illegal, and will be swiftly challenged. Another issue the president is drawing fire on, paper checks for those 1200
Economic Impact payments. When they start going out next week, the checks will have the president s name and the memo section. He wanted taxpayers to know he support the payments, the idea brought howls of criticism from democrats. I wish it were the only ego trip, it seems almost every day the president thinks this crisis revolves about him and his desires, his knees, his enemies. Claiming credit for economics incentives is nothing new appeared in 2009 the
Obama Administration was criticized for spending 1. 3 million on road signs across the country touting projects for its stimulus package, in 2001 the
Bush Administration sent out letters to people about to receive tax rebates, letters that were derided as a campaign commercial. Today
President Trump was gathering wool on ideas to reopen government to speaking with thousands of members of his
Great American economic revival groups in different sectors of the economy. In the sports category,
Dallas Mavericks owner mark cuban. I think the biggest mistake we could make his rush to a decision but im going to help in every way i can. The cdc and fema are drafting proposals for your opening, and a draft version, the agencies recommend coming out of mitigation in a controlled way with robust
Monitoring Systems in place to contain new cases and outbreaks, added that leaders at all levels will need to prepare communities for occasionally returning to stricter mitigation measures as needed to continue to contain the disease. The urgent need for an economic rescue package became even more urgent today, the paycheck protection loans tapped 3 billion today and sources told fox news that fun could be exhausted as soon as tomorrow. Meantime a 250 billion plan to reup that fund has stalled in congress with no sign that its going anywhere. Bret john roberts live in the rose garden. Well have continuing news of that breaking news in the top. If in that news conference, the president threatening to use constitutional powers to
Adjourn Congress to get some of his nominees through in a recess appointment, that would be the first time for any president in history if it happened and that would be challenged. President Trump telling americans it seems we are past the peak of covid19. The president says that means we are on a strong position to finalize the guidelines for states to begin this reopening process. We are going to talk about that a lot tonight. The guidelines we are told will be announced tomorrow. More on those developments in a moment.
