We support victims, we have done this historically through our work and will continue to do so in the future. The letters were not written to question the legitimacy of the judicial system or the validity of the jurys ruling. They were intended for the judge to read and not to undermine the testimony of the victim or retraumatize them in any way. Were sorry if that has taken place. While the judge in that case sentenced masterson to 30 years to life in prison for those crimes, the couple sent the letters to the judge just before the sentence was handed down so apparently their letters didnt have much impact. In one of those letters kutcher wrote danny takes his jobs seriously and treats everyone equal and as a roam model, danny was consistently an excellent one. But after reading the story and kind of looking into this, they were friends with this person for 25 years and obviously felt like they knew him. When they wrote these letters, again, they were meant to be private, they certainly didnt mean for it to get out and certainly not to the victims. Its theyre trying to say what their experience is with him. Maybe they think hes wrongfully convicted. I dont know. Maybe i dont know what their actual thoughts are, but i think it was a private letter and not meant to get out and i think there are people convicted of crimes, and that doesnt mean there arent people in their lives that believe them to be a good person at some buoyant in their life. These Character Letters do mean something. If youre convicted of rape, these dr. Letters dont mean youll walk scott free but its okay that people that have a good opinion of him wrote these letters in confidence that they wouldnt get out because they did not want to offend the victim in any way shape or form. Well, i would say that its a completely fair point and i also think that if they think hes wrongfully convicted, they could say that but theyre trying to have it both ways theyre not questioning the verdict and theyre just trying to speak to the character that they knew.
