Hello, everyone. Im dana perino and this is the daily briefing. A federal grand jury delivering those indictments all charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States. Tin tkaoeugtment alleges that the russian conspirators wanted to promote discord in the United States and under mind Public Confidence in democracy. We must not allow them to succeed. The Department Of Justice will continue to work cooperatively with other Law Enforcement and intelligence agencies and with congress to defend our nation against similar current and future efforts. Dana chief intelligence correspondent Catherine Herridge is live at the Justice Department. You were called to that executive floor. There was not a lot of notice to get this information. What do you make of it . Reporter we received a call about 45 minutes before that News Conference that the Deputy Attorney general Rod Rosenstein would be speaking to reporters with some major developments. Now we know 13 individuals who are now being indicted along with three russian entities for interfering in American Elections. The indictment puts flesh on the bone, a lot of detail to what the Intelligence Community had already concluded, that russias goal was to intershow and show discord in the 2016 elections. What the indictment tells us, it began back in 2014 and ramped up in 2016 with the taking of 80 employees targeting specifically the president ial election. And they used ways to hide their identity from the american citizens and they even bought server space in the United States so their communications were traced, it would not lead back to russia. Heres the Deputy Attorney general from the last hour. Using stolen or fictitious american identities, Fraudulent Bank accounts and false identification documents. The defendants posed as politically and socially active americans advocating for and against particular candidates. Reporter the Deputy Attorney general Rod Rosenstein also told reporters that this interference was part of a bigger project the Russians Code named project latka. They also targeted other countries in their elections. We know this was also the case with the french and german elections. Dana mr. Rosenstein went on to talk about the americans and the Trump Campaign in particular and what did they know, whether they were dealing with russians able to go speak to prosecutors, discussion information, but this is kind of information off the books, if you will, for any prosecution. Each of these indictments is in a separate silo. Manafort and gates is one chapter. What happened with the 13 russians and three entities today looks like an entirely distinct chapter. Pretty different chapter in a bigger book about russian activity. Dana what happens in russia today . Obviously these are people not in the United States. What sort of impact does it have . That tells me that since it Wasnt Under Seal for a period of time, there was really no serious effort or belief that they were going to take any of these people into custody. So they unsealed this indictment today knowing that theres 13 people probably sitting pretty in Saint Petersburg russia that will not face extradition. Dana i was following some of the hot takes right after the press conference, or even during, with people from the far right and the far left saying this means trump should be really worried, and it also means that trump should think that this is over and theres nothing more to see here. Where do you see it . In between. The good news for trump is an indictment that goes out of its way to say Trump Campaign officials to the extent they were contacted, were unwitnessing. Thats an intentional placement to say they were not colluding. To act like that ends all the russia probe is a bit premature. Theres no way of knowing whether there are other cases to follow. Dana there was reporting this morning that mike flynn, who has plead guilty, is possibly being encouraged to change that plea and withdraw it based on something that a judge said this week. Can you explain that . Well, mike flynn is in a difficult spot because even if hes thinking about withdrawing his guilty plea, its not as simple as notifying the court. It is an uphill struggle for a defendant to convince a court after having plead guilty that there should be some reconsideration of that. Hes been cooperating in the probe. That much is very clear. So this would be a real abrupt about face. Its not by any means automatic if you pursue it. In fact, most of the time its almost an automatic no to withdrawing the plea. Dana Andrew Mccarthy wrote today that it appears sullivans order supercedes the Plea Agreement and imposes on the Special Counsel to reveal any and all evidence that flynn is innocent to the charge which he admitted guilt. Is he right on that . Hes right, but incomplete. Hes very knowledgeable, says good things about the criminal justice system. The reality is, judge sullivan, at least since the stevens case, where Senator Stevens indictment and conviction were overturned has had a Standing Discovery Order that he imposes on the parties. Then i expect to see increase in the amount of post Traumatic Stress<\/a> disorder, anxiety, depression, Sleep Disturbances<\/a> will happen. So we need to be prepared. Parents need to be aware. Teacher, adults and care givers need to be aware and look for science and symptoms of suicidal thoughts, irritation, frustrations. Try to help these children, these young teenagers know and understand that theyre safe, that theyre loved and encourage\rthem to express their emotions which can help them get through this horrific episode. In addition to this conversation, other activities. Writing, engaging in activities with their friends, attending support groups. Very very important. One thing is important to know is make sure you do not force your child to talk about it. If they dont want to talk about it, dont force them to. Let them have their alone time. Never let them feel abandoned. Dont keep them in isolation. If they want to speak to it. Most kids want to talk about it. Important to realize not to\rforce them.
