FOXNEWSW The Five July 27, 2018

When i meet the leaders of countries, the first thing they say invariably, is, mr. President , so nice to meet you. Congratulations on your economy. You are leading the entire world. America is being respected again and america is winning again because we are finally putting america first. Everywhere we look we are seeing the effects of the American Economic miracle. Dana all right, jesse. One of the things about this is we had 4. 1 growth back in 2014. The former cbo guy was on the 2 00 show today and said the difference this time is that the economy was growing in all the right ways. So he does think it is quite sustainable. Jesse yeah. So does the president and thats what all his advisors have told him. The trump economy is so good obama is trying to take credit for it at this point remember they said that trump was going to crash the markets and now the economy. Juan is this the comedy hour or the five . Jesse im funny but also right. [laughter] remember, they said trump was going to crash the economy. Now its doing well so they wont credit. Pick one, obama . I mean obama mocked President Trump for saying he could get to 4 and now is he there and all the naysayers now its not sustainable. The same people who said it wasnt possible. He has done this through tax cuts, deregulation and energy production. Compare under barack obama. I think the final year under obama it was 1. 5 . He never hit annually 3 g. D. P. And trump is on pace to beat that right now. And i think under obama they lost 200,000 manufacturing jobs over 8 years. Trump has already added nearly 4,000 manufacturing jobs. These numbers are terrific. Consumer confidence is up. Wages rupp a little bit. They could be higher. Four million jobs almost created since is inauguration all the way around. If he can stay strong on the economy, focus on law and order and get these judges in and get trade wins before the mid terms he will be able to get his Approval Rating up to the high 40s which is going to be really important going into november. Dana other thing i wanted to ask you about the personal savings rate was higher than economists thought. Thats good news for the health of the country overall, right . Trish certainly, that said, i would just say that you do want people to be out there spending. You do think people more confident right now. Mentioned Consumer Confidence and consumer sentiment. We are seeing optimism in this country that we havent seen in near lay decade. I can say that by the measurement in terms of what we are looking at with unemployment numbers and the jobs added. I can tell you that ceos that i talk to on a regular basis are much more excited and optimistic about the future. So much uncertainty overhung the obama administration. You saw the president and how excited he was we can sustain this and 4. 1 are great. We are the envy of the world. Do you notice every time we got a glimmer of hope in the economy during the obama years, he would never willing to say that he always had to peddle back and say well, you know, its not enough, we are not totally there this is a president who recognizes the importance of the psychology of the american consumer. Confidence matters. Dana i called him the head coach of capitalism. [laughter] the other thing, greg the economy benefited from the tax cuts. The thing that doesnt get a lot of attention how he tooks the reigns off the regular gla another piece. Obama tried to jam a lot through and companies a sigh of relief they dont have all that extra stuff to worry about. Greg how you all have been fueled. Clearly a distraction from scandal. He created this booming economy, this low unemployment, peace with north korea, i almost said north carolina. And north carolina, trade, deregulation. Judges. He is doing all this to deflect from scandal. Thats what im saying. And i hope msnbc follows that path. Trish is absolutely right. People dont understand the power of persuasion. And these are, and i hate to quote scott adams. Drink. Greg these were always psychological problems. And its like if you can actually get affect optimism, opt 34eu678 ends up being the engine that creates productivity. This is something that president obama most people dont understand but sales men probably do because they live and die by optimism and confidence. What was your question . [laughter] dana i was just saying it wasnt just the tax cuts. Greg yes, deregulation. Basically allowed the horses to leave the barn. To coin a phrase. But i will go back to this for the never trumpers and people who dont like donald trump. America, you know, we have a choice and its like and i use the met for of the doctor. A guy who has a lousy personality but great with a knife or a guy you can like who is terrible on a patient. I think the media keeps focusing on the doctor and not the patient. And the patient is america and its doing great. Dana thats a good one. I think scott adams will be very proud of that one if he is watching. Greg hosted me on a book tour. Dana we have to give juan some time to talk here. Is it hard for democrats to figure out a way to run against trump on an economy with numbers. Juan no. Its great news for the country. The thing about it is the salesman part exactly dana what opens trump to critics. People will say you mean you are taking credit for everything . I thought we just had a Record Number of quarters of sustained growth coming out of what people, i think, across the aisle call the great recession. And it was a tremendous recovery, mostly under president obama. Jesse since world war ii. Juan please, are you kidding me . That analysis requires to you imagine that somehow we could have come out faster out of this great recession. Jesse we could have. Trish historically speaking, every time you have had a recession you do actually spring back and usually the numbers look considerably better. Juan this was the worst recession, trish. This was the worst the country had been since the great depression. So what we have now is a situation where things are going, i say, you know, full guns, big boom, whatever. We have a 20 trilliondollar economy. We have near full unemploymenunemployment. What you hear from the economists part of this the people were worried about the trade wars. And so a lot of, for example, chinese buying soybeans was pushed way ahead in this quarter. What you get is a situation where wages still lagging. These are realities. Jesse they are not lagging, juan. Juan you made a list of things because the news is so good if you step outside the snow globe of say like cnn, which only focuses on porn stars and lawyers. You realize were on the verge of a pretty awesome age. Juan i would hope. So im just telling you if you look at the reality we passed tax cuts or the president put in place tax cuts that we saw this week are driving deficits at higher rate. Trish how is it liberals suddenly become fiscal conservatives . Juan im telling you not trying to change the topic. Trish have you got to spend a little to get a little. Dana we have a lot. Its worth asking then what are we going to do about spending in the future. I want to play this because here is a possible solution for democrats if you follow her lead. Watch. If people pay their fair share, if corporations and the ultra wealthy, for example, as warren buffet likes to say, if he paid as much as his secretary paid, if we reversed the tax bill but raised our Corporate Tax rate to 28 , which is not even as high as it was before. Right. If we do those two things, and also close some of those loopholes thats 2 trillion right there. If we implement the carbon tax, thats an additional amount of a large amount of revenue that we can have just last year we gave the military a 700 billiondollar budget increase. Which they didnt even ask for. What we need to do is reprioritize what we want to accomplish as a nation. Dana jesse . Jesse i heard today she actually has an economics degree and thats astounding because it didnt look like someone versed in economics talking about that. She was looking at her notes the whole time. Time. Greg hey, whats wrong with that . Jesse yeah, but you speak like a linguist. Greg thank you. Jesse she is drying to keep it simple for the folk folks. You are going way over their head. She is saying we can pay free healthcare if we do this and do this and do this if we do this it will raise 2 trillion. Guess what it will cost 30 trillion for free healthcare. She is not even close to paying for it i do think she is a nice person and she means well, but i dont think she knows anything about economics. Im impressed that she is asked about it. Juan did she answer the question . Jesse i dont think she did. How are you going to pay for it. Greg what she said you guys prioritize tax cuts to the point that you will drive up the deficit and then trish over here all of a sudden liberals care about that . Well, im just telling you. Jesse her solution doesnt pay for it. Juan you said its more important for us as an American People to take care of those who are ill, who have had preexisting conditions than to put more money in the pocket of the rich. Jesse juan, like someone saying how are you going to pay for this bmw . Oh here is 35. A bmw cost 35 grand. Juan here sour priority. We want to take care of people who are ill. Dana greg, you have the last word. Greg heres the issue. Nothing that she says pertains to wealth creation. This is always the difference between the left and the right. Her answer, her solution for any kind of monetary issue or gum disease is taxes. Its going to be taxes. But, if you ask them how do you create money . How do you create wealth, they will look at you and they will look down at their notes and there will be nothing in those notes. Jesse start asking her how to create wealth instead of how to take wealth. Dana what we need to do is redistribute what we have. Trish thats alarming that people fundamentally i dont think most americans if you push them will actually tell you that they want to go to work and turn over their check to uncle sam. I think most americans really want to keep all that they have. But, there is a part of the population, you think about the people that followed sanders and people that are following her that say no, Wealth Redistribution is okay. Thats the way they want to live. Dana juan, we have to go because we have so much stuff coming. Greg no. Juan we have too much income inequality and its becoming a political liability for you guys growth, growth, growth. Dana a major twist in the russia investigation regarding the trump tower meeting and what are Robert Mueller and donald trump jr. Doing next to each other at the airport . The answer ahead. Reports say cohen is willing to tell special counsel Robert Mueller about what he allegedly knows. But sources say he doesnt have evidence, such as recordings, to back himself up. The president strongly denies knowing about the meeting before hand and is attacking cohens lawyer, longtime clinton confidante, lanny davis. Rudy giuliani taking the pushback against cohen even one step farther. The man is a liar, a proven liar. Theres no way you are going to bring down the president of the United States on the testimony, uncorroborated of a proven liar. I guarantee you this guy is a proven liar. I hear what you are saying. Year ago when i wasnt his lawyer, people in your profession told me this guy will flip because he is inherent pathological liar. Juan no doubt about that. Talk about an awkward runin. What about this . Mueller and donald trump jr. Spotted just a few feet away from each other waiting at the same gate at an airport in washington earlier today. Greg surrounded by shirkles. Juan you are an astute observer. I have often thought that jesse, what do you make of this because giuliani for the longest time was cohen is a great guy but, hey, looks like hey, suddenly team trump doesnt like cohen. Jesse cohen is a wounded animal and he will do and say anything to save his hide. I dont know whether he is telling the truth its a he said, she said or he said, he said. Maybe its the truth and trump did have an inkling of warning about the meeting, whatever. It doesnt make him criminally liable for anything. It doesnt put him in any legal jeopardy, i dont think. He lied to the media. I mean, if you lock up anybody that lies to the media then all the president s would be in jail. I dont know if it really moves the needle that much in terms of the investigation. What was the meeting . Remember, it was hey, i have dirt on russia. Oh, do you . What have you have nothing. Money changed hands and dirt changes changed hands. She paid for dirt from russia. There is a little bit difference. Look at this in the context of all these great things happening with the economy, north korea, and everything going on in this country. Just keep on having these bad and these negative and distracting things over here. Investigations and personal stuff. Its hard for the rest of the country to understand it. Juan can you whistle . Because you are whistling past the graveyard here. Im going to tell you. Juan who died, juan . You . Juan i would think its not a good sign, dana, that you get Michael Cohen looking like he might want to cooperate. Dana i dont think coson going to have a lot of defenders, if you were ever on the receiving end of one of his tirades as henchmen for all things President Trump before he was president. You dont have a lot of love loss for that guy, believe me. Also, he makes lawyers look really bad. If their reputations could get any worse. Im going to Say Something though it is weird that Michael Cohen decides to hire lanny davis. He is out there fighting with rudy giuliani. And giving him a good fight out there in the cable news wars. But, because if they are going to drip this out every single day, condition people what jesse just did. Its not that big of deal. Its just a lie to the media. Well, even then its not that bad. And if it all comes out and turns out that all the accusations were true, by that point, people will be like oh well, we dont care. Because thats exactly what happened to bill clinton. Juan thats interesting. So, trish, in addition to this thing, you have trumps corporate lawyer being subpoenaed in new york and the southern district. What does that mean . Trish well, is there any financial wrongdoing . Thats what they are trying to look at at well . I mean were Campaign Funds used . Were nefarious people lending him money . Et cetera . I have a theory on this. In that Vladimir Putin wanted very badly to mess with us. He wanted to undermine us. He wanted to undermine our government, our democracy and our faith in our government. And if you think about where we are right now with all the conversations that we keep having about russian collusion he has been successful. To a certain extent it may not have even mattered to him as long as he could plant these seeds of doubt and what did he do . He used our greatest strength, which is the openness of our society, the ability to Exchange Ideas and criticize the other side. He has used all that effectively against us. I mean, i spoke with one former Intelligence Officer today who said, look, trust me, the russians if they were really up to something, they are not parading the russian attorney right in to trump tower on fifth avenue with everybody looking. They would have been a little cagier, a little smarter about it. So, his feeling was, you know, these are a bunch of bread crumbs and the media is out there picking up every single one and it could have happened on either side. All i know is its undermining our faith in our system. Juan i think its a solid point. Gregory . Greg i think we should replace shark week with lawyer week, dana. [laughter] this scandal is just a distraction from all the good news about the economy just thought i would reverse my other talking point. No rules loo
