Following his brain cancer diagnosis along with vintage mccain remarks. Listen. Make no mistake, my service here is the most important job ive had in my life. Im so grateful, so grateful to the people of arizona for the privilege, for the honor of serving here and the opportunities it gives me to play a small role in the history of the country that i love. I voted for the motion to proceed to allow debate to continue on amendments we offer. I will not vote for this bill as it is today. Its a shell of a bill right now. We know that. I have changes urged by my states governor included to earn support in final passage of any bill. If this ends in failure, which is likely, lets return to regular order. Weve been spinning our wheels on too many important issues because we keep trying to find a way to win without help from across the aisle. Looking good, senator. During a News Conference with lebanons prime minister, President Trump praised todays progress in the senate. Im extremely happy that we got this vote. This is they say if you look historically, this is the tough vote to get. Were going to sit together and try to come up with something that is really spectacular. We have a lot of options. I want to thank some of the republican senators that were fantastic in getting us here. Particularly john mccain for making the trip. I think youre going to have a great healthcare. This is the beginning of the end for the disaster known as obamacare. All right, eboni. 5050 tie. The Vice President breaks the tie. Yeah. Well see a lot of that everybody was so happy to see john mccain out there demonstrating that type of leadership. As it stands, it wont get his support. But im not mad for him pushing for the discussion to get healthcare to make America Great again. And kat, we know why senator mccain made the trek across the country. He cast the 50th vote. His speech was inspiring. Everything he said about bipartisanship needing to happen, the hostility needing to end. None of us are ever allowed to call in sick to work ever again. That was amazing. Yeah, it was a nail biter. Good they can discuss it. Well get into what theyre discussions. Lets meet todays specialist. She appeared on mtvs the real world is married to sean duffy, speaks to College Forums about american capitolism and the american dream. Do we have music . A lot of things. I hear the music. And spent 24 years with the Milwaukee Police department, the 2015 recipient of the conference award and from Milwaukee County and the sheriff. Sheriff david park is here. The Senate Majority talked about the healthcare debate. Listen. This is just the beginning. Were not out here to spike the football, this is a long way. Well finish at the end of the week hopefully with a measure that can go to the house, be taken up or go to conference. Sheriff, as eboni points out, they have a lot of work to do to go forward. But they made it over the first hurdle. This has been a dissasser from a p. R. Perspective. In golf, theres this thing called a mulligan. You hit a bad shot, you get to do it over. This is their fourth mulligan. The American People are tired of the back and forth. They know obamacare is headed off a cliff. They know its a disaster. They want it fixed. The stuff, the way it goes on in the senate and washington d. C. , its all this political fear that goes on. In the end, it takes too long to get this done. I dont know how much longer they have. The gop, im talking about. I dont know how much longer they have before the American People get tired of it. We pointed out, rachel, youre on obamacare what can you say . What people dont understand, when congress voted to put itself on obamacare, the Obamacare Administration and the obama family carved themselves out of it. When you say the videos of Michelle Obama signing her family up for obamacare, it was fake. Theyre not on obamacare. But congress is. So this is personal to me. Im happy to see that were a step forward. It was on life support. No question about it. John mccain is a war hero. He takes a lot of grief from the republican base. He was a hero today. He is the one that kept this thing alive today. Eboni, i have a niece on obamacare. I have family members. They hate it. They cant stand it. The penalties, the deductions. Its awful for them. She keeps telling me, we need to get something to replace it. The problem is, im not sure what republicans have to replace it. Is it any better . Thats the problem, eric. I opted out of obamacare. I said im not paying a premium that i find unaffordable and i thought the coverage was lackluster. As the sheriff points out, seven years later, no viable replacement plan. For those dissatisfied with obamacare, i have to tell you, its not particularly comforts to give us two more years to replace it with something. It could go from bad to worse. Kat, they made the first hurdle. Debate is open. Senator rand paul tweeted in a series of tweets to Mitch Mcconnell that the plan for today was to take up the 2015 clean repeal bill as hes urged. This is something weve talked about here. Rand paul was told by Mitch Mcconnell the clean repeal bill will be an option. Well have the sam problems as we had before this vote. Its the first hurdle but kind of not. Weve seen what it looks like when they try to come up with a replacement. We all seem to notice theyre having a tough time because the differences, some people think it doesnt go far enough, some people say it goes too far. How do you reckoncile that . I was going to say, two senators of course still not even moving forward to discussion. That points how far apart they are. A lot of talk about republicans. The democrats gave us this mess that not even this democrat will purchase. What democrat . Independent. Fine. Im sorry. Okay. Sorry about that. She will not purchase obamacare. I dont want obamacare. But where are the democrats . Where is their responsibility in this . Premiums are sky rocketing because people were doing what eboni said she was going to do. She was in to opt out, pay the penalty and not pay for obamacare. Therefore everyone else grandmas and single people are being forced to buy coverage that includes Maternity Care when i know i need maternity coverage. But theres other people that dont. People want options. People want choices. The democrats also have to be held responsible for why i understand sheriff, youre upset at the republicans. I am, too. There is an obstructionist force. People wont vote let me stop you there i hear the obstructionist thing. When youre a leader and you control both chambers of congress and the white house, its your job to work around obstruction. The gop has to get on the same page before you have audacity to ask the democrats for anything. But if i wreck the car, if i run it in the ditch as president obama said, i cant sit back and make fun of why you cant fix it. Politically, lets say all of these things are true. This could be expensive and i get pushback from a lot of people when i suggest this. Let back away from the table now. We couldnt pass clean repeal. We couldnt pass skinny healthcare. We couldnt pass full repeal and replace. Back away. Youre stuck with obamacare. Honestly, it fails. Falls upon itself. Half the country will have one or no insurers. Dangerous game to play politically. What can the republicans do . Im not just hammering on them. But theyre in the drivers seat. They can get it done and fix it. What can they get 50 votes on . If you have to have Vice President pence cast the deciding vote, fine. They cant get to 50 within 51 votes, 18 months ago for a clean repeal. There were several people that voted for that thing in 2015 that voted against it this time. Thats been the messy, ugly part of it. This is kind of the personality that the person people im at ground level. This is how they see washington d. C. This big mess. Not much gets done. A lot of infighting and political bickering. I understand that environment. At the end of the day, the American People want something done. Right now the gop is in the drivers seat. They need to fix this. Kat what should they do . Repealing is getting something done. I want to get to rachels point in terms of saying they crashed this car and now its not fair to have us fix it. I didnt say that. I said they should be helping to fix it. Theres clearly idealogical differences between democrats and republicans. Clearly theyre not going to decide on the same solution to fix it. I assume the democrats would have more government involvement rather than less. The difference is, because republicans reason on saying let us fix it. You dont advertise being a body shop of fixing a car but not do it. Move the ball. Youre the quarterback. Youre Mitch Mcconnell, leader of the senate. Where do you take this debate Going Forward from here . Its tough. Its tough because the gop seems to have a bit of an identity crisis in terms of who they are. True. Can i say this . I want this is this is what it is. Kat, you say its idealogical. I think its rhetorical. When you have Chuck Schumer to your point saying we know that there are problems with the Affordable Care able. Theres problems with obamacare. Bill clinton saying its a disaster. Theres an awareness. The problem is with the rhetoric. If you call it repeal and replace, you wont have any democratic buyin. Thats the way it goes. If you call it revamping or redeveloping obamacare or aca, i think theres opportunity for buyin. Where would you go . I want to know i like rachels idea of lets talk about choices. Say for instance, theres to reason everybody in america should be paying for maternity coverage. If youre at a place were beyond that. Now youre talking about here we are. Mitch mcconnell called for a vote. Now he has to do something. What do my co hosts think we should do . What should Mitch Mcconnell do . In terms of what . Step away. You know what i would do . Id blow up the filibuster rule and get this thing going. Thats an option. That will tick off a lot of people. This is what the American People voted for. The American People dont understand all of these precious rules of the senate. What do the republicans do right now . They have to do something in the next week or so. What is the right thing to do . The right thing to do is to repeal it. Seems to be enough votes for that. Repeal it and you have to find a solution that to replace it. You cant just go repeal and two years later you cant do that, rachel. Its either repeal and replace later or come up with Something Different now. Or blow up the filibuster rule and get it through. Plain repeal youre saying. Ill be furious if this ends up not getting repealed. Its not going to. A lot of people feel that way. When you ask me what to do, its like me in my head, i picture laying on the floor and giving up on everything. Thats how desperate this is. If they cant bring down the premiums i know its not an option. Obviously repeal it. When you have the disagreements within the party, how do you solve that . Thats what im asking. Mitch mcconnell has to do some arm twisting. He doesnt have the will to do that. A guy that was not fond up and had no use for harry reid, he didnt have these problems. He kept everybody inside the corral when it comes to issues like, this. The reason is because democrats are collectivists. They do group things. Obamacare says dough it, they do it. Republicans are individualized and fight for their individual ideas. Theyre asking me to get out of this segment, this is my biggest problem with us, cable news. Right here. Were complaining about where we are instead of saying, were here now, now lets come up with ideas to get to the next step to go forward. Theyre watching. They are watching. Senators right now are watching. The white house is watching. We need to come up with solutions, not just complain stop calling it straight repeal. Get to a solution. You can get bipartisan buyin that brings the premiums down. Maybe thats a step forward. Youll never get bipartisan buyin. In the end, obamacare was designed to fail because they want single payer. They do want that straight ahead, President Trump voicing disappointment with Jeff Sessions during a News Conference this afternoon. Is time running out for sessions as the attorney general . Well debate it when we come back. Backpack, check. Thats the family taking care of business. Awesome notebook check. But who takes care of them . Office depot office max. Are upgrading their watere filter to zerowater. Start with water that has a lot of dissolved solids. Pour it through britas twostage filter. Get more out of your water. Get zerowater. This is a story about mail and packages. And its also a story about people. People who rely on us every day to deliver their dreams theyre handing us more than mail theyre handing us their business and while we make more ecommerce deliveries to homes than anyone else in the country, we never forget. Wait a minute. Whole wheat waffles . [ crying ] why attorney Jeff Sessions may be reaching for extra large of box of alkaseltzer this afternoon. Im disappointed in the attorney general. He should not have recused himself almost immediately after he took office. If he was going to recuse himself, he should have told me prior to taking office and i would have picked somebody else. Thats a bad thing not just for the president but for the presidency. Its unfair to the presidency. Thats the way i feel. President trump not stopping there. Also highlights another issue of frustration with the a. G. I want the attorney general to be much tougher on the leaks from intelligence agencies, which are leaking like rarely have they ever leaked before at a very important level. These are intelligence agencies. We cannot have that happen. Well see what happens. Time will tell. Okay. Eric, i want a better understanding as to what is at play. The very first sitting United States senator to endorse President Trump was Jeff Sessions. We know loyalty means a lot to President Trump. Weve been hearing that. You talked to him frequently. Can you explain why the loyalty that sessions demonstrated to President Trump seems to be working in his favor . Heres why. Everybody is saying why now, why now. Because Jeff Sessions recusing himself after he was appointed attorney general has caused a domino effect that is metastasizing right now. Not then, right now. He stepped aside. Rosenstein, the Deputy Attorney general, wasnt appointed by trump. Said hey, well have a general counsel to investigate russian. Not the Hillary Clinton leaks or the collusion between hillary and russia. Were going to investigate the trump russian collusion problem. Trump is going really . I wouldnt have appointed him if he was going to step down and start this ball rolling. Now mueller is so no offense, Senate Republicans and House Republicans are just as bad as mueller investigating every aspect of the Trump Campaign. How about focusing on something that we know went wrong . We know Hillary Clinton probably we dont know. We think she may have broken the law. Her husband did board an airplane in arizona. That could have been an obstruction of justice. She took part in a deal that sold to russians. And kat, lets talk about the domino effect for trump and his presidency as he points out. Why do it publicly . Why not have this be a closeddoor situation where he sits Jeff Sessions down and says buddy, what are you doing to me . Give me some relief here. I cant think of a single situation in which you see a workplace where a boss keeps repeatedly publicly humiliating one of his employees and be like wow, things seem to be going well over there. Its a disaster. I agree with why now. Sessions certainly hasnt done anything wrong. I get that. The pressure is ramping up and they have a special counsel and this and that. But sessions didnt do that. If hes taking out his anger on him, i dont know. But to do it publicly, i have no clue why you would do that. You dont air your dirty laundry. He is just like Walking Around with only dirty laundry all the time talking about this. I dont see the benefit. Sheriff, you have deputies that work for you and your department. If one of them was defiant, disrespedi disrespe disrespectful, how do you handle it . You can do it any number of ways. You can do both. When you work for a president , any president , you bet very thick skin. You talked about loyalty. A difference between the campaign and governing. Some of the things that attorney general sessions has done has caused angst in the white
