Barnes today. What happened . Reporter donald trump just wrapped up a meeting with a group called the National Diversity colation for trump led by pastor darren green of cleveland who happens to be Still Standing out here from front of trump tower talking to his team now that the meeting has wrapped up. The pastor has known donald trump for several years and says despite his outsized personality and some of his positions, trump is humble and a man of faith. The Group Includes not just africanamericans but also hispanicamericans, asianamericans, muslimamericans and others. It has helped defend trump against charges by some of his critics that he is racist. Pastor scott says the meeting today was called to introduce trump to more. Coalitions members but also to talk to trump about, quote, some concerns and initiatives for our communities. Now, we could hear trump discuss the meeting tonight when he is in buffalo for a rally. We also alternate rally tonight might hear him, again, trying out his she merging line. Attack on Hillary Clinton. Then, of course, we have crooked hillary, crooked hillary, folks. Shes been crooked from the beginning, and to think that sh shot as being our president , crooked Hillary Clinton. We cant let it happen. Reporter clinton, for her part, says that she is not responding tomorrow these attacks by trump. Also want to mention that ted cruz and john kasich continue to campaign in new york today before tomorrows primary with 95 delegates at stake. John kasich is in upstate and ted cruz held a televised town meeting here in new york this morning before heading to maryland for that rally outside of baltimore. Gretchen . All right. Thanks much, peter. Lets take a look at new polls giving us a look at favorability or look thereof among theh side. The only two candidates with a net positive rating right now at least are john kasich with 12 and Bernie Sanders with 9 . Ted cruz and Hillary Clinton both unpopular with net negative 23 and 24 respectively. Donald trump the most unfavorable with negative 41 . Joining me now Chris Stirewalt politics editor and author of fox news first. Its interesting, chris, because i guess weve been talking about this for some time, the high unfavorables with specifically clinton and trump, and if they happen to both be the nominees, would they just cancel each other out on that front . Well, trumps got a lot more. It would be remarkable to have both major parties nominate people who are very unpopular. Donald trump would obviously be the most unpopular in of modern record. Now, of course, both said would tell you they will turn it around and use the hatred for the other candidate to help prop them up, that they dont necessarily Hillary Clinton will tell you she doesnt have to be liked. She just has to not be donald trump and donald trump will tell you people will hate Hillary Clinton so much by the time this thing is over that they will even vote for him, even if they dont like him, so you have when you see negatives certainly of Donald Trumps height, of that trump tower, and you see Hillary Clinton and you see them, and also ted cruz right there with her. Yeah. You see the possibility of a general election that is the most heinous, destructive, scorched if youre sick of politics now, you aint seen nothing yet. Ah. We just heard the nickname from trump from clinton so i imagine thats just the first start. Lets take a look at a rows ent poll, because this is really fascinating. I think this is one thing that americans are really frustrated with now in the last couple of weeks, because they are finding out does my vote actually count, or is it up to the delegates . Here is the question. If no delegate majority, the nominee should be the one with the most votes . Well, yeah, 62 of americans say yes, or the best party standardbearer. Only 33 agree with that. I mean, this is this is the frustration that a lot of americans have felt, chris, right now is that, wow, i went and the i cast my vote like in colorado, i didnt even vote because they dont allow it anymore and yet my vote may not count. Well, but your a selection is different than an election. Parties select their nominees and in this this is a, with all due respect to the pollsters over there who do a great poll, thats not a pertinent question, and its a misleading question, a trick question. Whats heavier, a pound of feather or a pound of lead . In this case it doesnt matter. Who should win, the person that everybody likes the best or the person who has the most votes, shouldnt it be the person with the most votes . What the question doesnt tell them is this, and we dont expect people to be up to date on delegate math 24 hours a day. Right. What it doesnt tell them is if you dont have 1,237 delegates, you cannot be, no matter if if that poll said that 1,100 of republican primary voters thought it should go to the person with the most delegates, if you dont have the magic number, you cant be the nominee and it doesnt matter. This is in the same poll and why i think you think its a trick question because 55 of gop primary voters say its its acceptable if cruz wins the nomination by convincing the delegates from other candidates to support him, so on the one hand on the one hand you have overwhelming people who say it should be the person with the most votes by the American People and then on the other hand you have a majority that say cruz could still go and try to get these delegates to swap. I promise you something. What. That the american voting public cannot sustain interest in delegate Selection Process until the end of july. It is impossible. I do this for a living. I care about this deeply, and even i say, okay, wrap it up, okay. I got cha. I gotcha. This will fade. In the end its incumbent upon the Republican Party and the democrats, super delegate issues with Bernie Sanders as well. Its up to both of the parties to run a fair process and make sure that it works, but i dont think this current infatuation with the Selection Process, i dont think thats going to hold. All right. Do you have every state memorized yet . I know everything. Just dont ask it fast. Okay, all right. Ill test you on that, stirewalt. See you next week. I believe it. You bet. Lets move on. The Supreme Court hearing arguments in a landmark battle over immigration. 26 states suing the federal government over president obamas executive orders. Shielding millions of Illegal Immigrants from deportation. So the states are arguing the president s plan, its unconstitutional and puts heavy Financial Burdens on them. Shannon bream live outside the Supreme Court. I think we wore the same dress, almost. Shannon, how heated did things get there today . Reporter lets start outside, gretchen, because there were thousand of people here link first street which sits between the u. S. Supreme court and u. S. Capitol. They were shouting is and chanting and have a little bit left over. At times the two sides in competing shouting matches and jostling around and very passionate and inside heat as well, the justices extending the normal argument time from 60 minutes to 90 minutes. Texas has been leading the 26state Coalition Challenge being the president s actions as unconstitutional. Heres Texas Attorney general ken paxton. If we allow a president , whether its this president or a future president no matter what their political persuasion or their party to make changes in the law without congressional approval, then we will end up with a perverted constitution. Reporter now, as you know, there is often a great focus on Justice Anthony kennedy who is often the swing vote and today there was definitely a focus on him and every little word that he said. At one point he talked about the way this was done, and he said it looks as if the executive branch is setting the policy and then hoping congress will then execute or carry it out. He said thats not the way its supposed to work. The words he used was backwards and upside down. Never know how much of a devils advocate they are playing during argument. Interesting words. Very. How confident are the president s supporters that enough justices will vote his way . Congress has given the executive branch power and discretion and they can set priorities whether they are looking at deporting people who are violent criminals versus working families and college students. Thats the contrast they were trying to paint today. Heres senator bob menendez, democrat out of new jersey. We believe at the end of the day that even though there are only eight justices there will be enough justices to uphold daca and dapa and keep Families Together and end the nightmare that the knock on the door is nothing more than a neighbor who wants to come in. Reporter gretchen, of course, you mentioned the eight justices and thats northern because if this ends in a tie case, of course, the Lower Court Ruling stays in place, so a tie here would mean that the lower courts ruling putting these programs on hold and stopping the president , that would stay in place, so really the advocates here need to get 453 if they hope to uphold the president s programs. Gretchen . Donald trump says this yores Gop Convention needs some showbiz, needs some excitement and could get it if hes denied the nomination. Youre going to have a very, very upset and angry group of people at the convention. Now, i hope that doesnt happen because if i win, people are going to be very happy. So whats he trying to say . At least 50 people wounded in a bus explosion in jerusalem. Police say it was a terror attack caused by an explosive device detonated at back of that bus. Flames engulfing the bus as firefighters raced to try to get it all under control. The blast raising fears now of a return to the Palestinian Suicide attacks that ravaged israeli cities a decade ago. Back to politics now. Republican leaders hoping to avoid chaos if they end up with a contested convention in july. Meanwhile, donald trump says the last convention, it was too boring, so he wants to pump it up with some good oldfashioned showbiz, and heres what else he had to say. Well, i hope it doesnt involve violence. I hope it doesnt, and im not suggesting that. I hope it doesnt involve violence, and i dont think it will, but i will say this. Its a rigged system. Its a crooked system. Its 100 crooked. Marjorie clifton, former consultant to the Obama Campaign and principal of clifton consultant is here and mercedes can schlapp former media spokeswoman for president george w. Bush and fox news contributor. All right. Marjorie, let me have you start with this. Donald trump says, you know, its a crooked system. We over heard this. We know its for sure complicated, and now hes talking about the fact that he hopes that there is not violence there. I think hes specifically talking about, you know, if this goes to a contested situation and people on all sides are going to be upset, right . Well, what hes saying is i hope theres not going to be violence there. I mean, i dont want people to be angry, but if i dont win, people are going to be really angry and you should be upset so its sort of a confusing message there because its sort of im not excusing violence, but im also not inciting understanding, im inciting anger with the populists. What were seeing across the board in terms of his Campaign Speeches is not inspiration or hope or not the great things, by the way, that conventions have been made at when you look at the greatest speeches and conventions of all time. Youre looking at how angry can be and you should buck the system and show up and separating people, not bringing them together. Ah, but, see, thats what people like on both sides this time around is the person who doesnt play by the rules all the time, and i want to read this next quote for you, mercedes, because heres what he said. Its very important to put some showbiz into a convention. Otherwise people are going to fall asleep. We dont have the people who know how to put showbiz into a convention. Mercedes, does he have a bit of a point . Known for the last four decades who the winner is. Right. Ive been at these conventions. Right. Sometimes they are boring. They are quite scripted, sometimes overly scripted and then you have the other extreme where you had the Clint Eastwood improvised skit where he had the empty chair representing president obama and he made an interesting statement when he said we own the country, not the politicians, by maybe its foreshadowing what were seeing four years later so there needs to be a mix of, yes, making sure that the party is able to talk about their message and being able to attract viewers, but let me tell you something. With trump in the picture, it will i can assure you it will not be a dull convention in any way because not only we might not be looking to see whats happening on stage, but its whats happening behind the scenes and the drama thats going to unfold during this convention, especially if it becomes a contested convention. You almost said contested which we dont know but i hear you. Speaking of fireworks, corey lewandowski, one of trumps spokespeople, campaign manager, whatever role hes filling, had some interesting comments about the florida delegates. Trump won that state winner take all and hes blaming now the chair of the Republican Party in that state of being a rubio supporter. Listen to this. The chairman. Party of florida who is an avid and outward supporter of marco rubio gets to appoint 30 of those delegates. I understand those are the rules, but donald trump won, and now youve got a person who is supporting marco rubio who gets to appoint 30 of the 99 delegates. Thats not what the rules should be. Marjorie, the person that he was talking about in florida came out and basically said he doesnt understand how florida works. Does any of it matter in being completely accurate . At this point no. The rules are the rules. The delegates, no matter what you think of the process, its the way it exists, and it cant be changed, so i think throwing a tantrum over the way the rules work is sort of a moot point right now. Again, all its doing is inciting more anger and vitriol towards the process. Again, i would like donald trump to focus on content, not showbiz and focusing on what were looking at yes, maybe so, but thats his specialty, right . Of course, of course. Well, you know, heres the deal. This is where i think trump should become more effective which is you not only have to, you know, get the popular vote and court those outsiders and angry voters and the gop voters that are angry with whats happening right now. Hes got to court the Party Insiders. Its the only way that hes going to be able to if he gets to that point, if it becomes a contested convention, hes going to need every single one of those delegates and by being critical of them and going after them it doesnt solve the problem. It actually hurts him in the long run. Okay. So i think changing the strategy is going to be key for trump. An interesting point because in the short run people might argue that because the system is so complicated, his simplistic approach in saying that its crooked actually does work in messaging. Maybe hell combine showbiz. You need a mix. And content. Got to see how it all turns out. Ladi ladies, thank you. Speaking of delegate rules. Think they are confusing . Yeah. But have no near.
