The state of the union as a timehonored tradition, required by article two, section three. The first one was delivered by our first commander in chief, George Washington in 1790. And it really tells us about how this game started. Shes been absent from being part of real discussions and said she will not give 1 penny and has not moved off of that. She took what was a legitimate disagreement on policy and made it both personal, petty and irresponsible by canceling his invitation to the state of the union, which is frankly, what we should be hearing right now. The job of the commander in chief as laid forth in our constitution is to come forward and provide the congress with information on the state of the union as the constitution says. And for her to martha understood. But the constitution says of the president from time to time should deliver a state of the union to the people. He could do it handwritten, he could do it in lots of different forms. We all know what the traditional way of delivering it is and the historical significance of that. Put yourself in the white house for a moment. I thought about this, and i thought, perhaps he could deliver the state of the union at a rally. Deliver it directly. Directly to the people, what do you think . Respectfully, i disagree. I get that the venue doesnt necessarily have to be the house, i think it should be in the senate. Martha maybe it will be the senate, maybe it will be the oval office. But hes been presented with a dilemma where he has to figure out what hes going to do. For all the handwringing that journalists and folks on the left to you about how the president conducts himself, the speaker of the house unceremoniously and unanimously revoked an invitation that she had set forward that folks had put on their calendars to ensure that the president of the United States could fulfill his constitutional responsibility. If she was so concerned about this for security reasons, why didnt she check with the secret service. And it shouldnt be a game and it shouldnt be a stunt, and many will look at what the president did, like lindsey graham, who as we know supports the president quite a bit. He thought on both sides of the bench, both the president and nancy pelosi were sophomoric. He felt that it should not have been canceled, that they were going to visit the troops in afghanistan and that that was the wrong move by the president. But at the end of the day, the only person that negotiate this i think that she means that and that is what all of our who are on the front lines of fighting our freedom and keeping world safe. Thats a given. I would never guess her patriotism on that front. However the bottom line is, theres plenty of time to do that. Right now these are the democrats who are saying, live and handwringing about the contractors who are suffering through this. They shouldnt be leaving to go anywhere to do anything. If you care about the tsa workers, the contractors, frankly if you care about the americans that utilize the services of so many of those, then you see them he just cant stomach canceled that doubles as well. There does have to be pain at the top, everybody has to be under the same rules. If its not uncomfortable, they are not going to be pushed to come to some kind of agreement here. There is a deal that can be struck here, you can make the wall stronger and you can make the southern border more secure. Everyone out there knows it. Speak out the problem is, we have a policy disagreement, but a political problem. Nancy pelosi and 54 democrats voted in 213,446,000,000,000,000. This is not a policy disagreement. This is something they are using for the 2020 fight and the thousands of people that are running for democrats on that side because they dont want to give trump a window. The president is fighting for all americans, not republicans are not conservatives. Hes fighting for our country security. Martha let me ask you a question. Put yourself back in the white house. Just in your mind for a moment, if you were asked, lets assume for a moment that the house option is off the table. What would be your recommendation . Number two, i go to the senate. Its a smaller venue, you would have less heckling. You have mcconnell and pentz that are the two people with the president so the optics are better. You maintain the integrity of delivering it to a joint address, and if that didnt work then i would go to the oval office. But there is something very, very dignified and special about the state of the union and i dont think it should be diminished because nancy pelosi has chosen to play politics. I think the president should call her bluff, and those numbers to members of the house that she has alienated will watch it on Television Like every other american. But dont allow this political stunt to be paid off and benefit her. Martha thank you very much. I would say if donald trump wants to call Nancy Pelosis bluff, have mitch mcconnell, and bring that bill up today or tomorrow and lets see where the votes are. I believe that nancy pelosi would get the house to vote for that, and that settles it. This letter of his, withdrawing the plane, he is saying the commercial into a war zone, which tips off people that are enemies. Im just saying, hes also report to referred to it as a p. R. Stunt. But let me ask you this, is it a p. R. S consent to insist that the state of the union cant be done . Isnt that also the same. It takes a lot of hot spot for the speaker of the house to send a letter to the president saying that because of the shutdown we cant provide security for you for the state of the union address. But she can get on a government plane and have all the securitys needs in the world to go to afghanistan. Give me a break. I understand why the president did this, but the thing is, this really pleases him, but we are already with him. The people he needs to win over are the persuadable people in the middle who are frustrated with the shutdown and polls show 71 of americans want both sides to compromise and come up with a deal. His job is to show that he is the adult in the room, he is the one staying in the oval office doing his job, offering to negotiate an offering to compromise while they are playing political stunts. And he got down and did a political stunt as well. I think they need to feel it at the top. President trump stayed at the white house, nancy pelosi jetted off to hawaii. Now part of the delegation is in puerto rico with the fundraising trip and now she was about to jet off. 30 minutes before they were supposed to leave, they get a reroute. Thats what they call it in the airline world. It sounds like nancy wants to jet around the world when she needs to get back to the capital and do her job. Why is it that she can jet off during the government shutdown, the president stays there, then she extends for the state of the union but now she wants to pull it back. Women for trump brought angel families to washington this week that have a lost family members to opioid abuse. They have lost family members to illegal crime. And this is a situation where lives are at stake on both sides of the border. There is not a life that should be lost because our border is unsecured. And there are people in the Democratic Party who are thinking that shes dragging things too far left. She has harnessed social media in a way that may be even donald trump hasnt, but she talks a good game about the deal, but she has not yet moved things in terms of policy outcomes. Shes making it difficult for some of these early candidates. She is sucking all the oxygen out of the room for these peopl people. Shes getting attention from the tv networks. Great. With regard to the chief of staff remarks, i think they stand on their own. As a member of the joint chief of staff, he articulates the view that he sees of the situation there on the ground. As secretary of the army, my rule is my responsibility to train the force. But in terms of i know there has been a lot of debate in the Defense Community about what is the right thing to do here, and one of the guest that i had on last night who was outside of the community has this to say about the idea that we could be pulling out too soon and creating more problems for ourselves. Its important that we locked down that when before we withdraw. Its also important to the member that if we do come back later and dont finish the job, we will have to come back. Martha what is your understanding about how long we will have to stay . We know the National Security advisor said as long as there are iranian soldiers on the ground in that area, if we dont fill that absence, we will stay. They understand that the point of them is so that members of congress can be on the ground and can see a little bit better whats going on, but how important are those to the mission . Im not sure that with regard to any particular mission, it is important that congress understands what their military does, and the order of the commanders in chief. But it depends on the situation, what is the best time for members to visit and when. Obviously the call was made in this circumstance and we will leave it at that. You heard the president talking about a space for us, there was also discussion about Hypersonic Missiles that the United States, russia and china are all scrambling to have great capability in. Can you explain to everybody as we watch this animation, the very basic description of what a Hypersonic Missile is . A hypersonic weapon is something that the United States military is pursuing as well. Particularly the army, navy and air force working together. Its a vehicle if you will that can skip across the outer edges of space and hit a target with a great deal of terminal velocity, causing substantial damage. Its something that the army is working on because its critical to the renaissance thats underway. For us, its the top priority to build longrange precision fires, that is the ability to strike targets of great distances and reflect what we need to be successful. They are very difficult to stop, i think they move at 57 times the speed of sound. Thats why we are pursuing them with great speed. And they can change direction on them as they are going, correct . They can be maneuverable, they dont follow what is called a ballistic trajectory. Martha give us a sense of where we stand compared to russia and china, are they ahead of us on this . I wont speak to any details but im fully confident in american technological prowess. All of those things that the United States army is pursuing right now to be successful in 2,028, and beyond it.
