About an hour ago, three hours shy of the mark it abruptly ended and everyone went home. If you look behind me up and down michigan avenue, known as magnificent mile. All you have are shoppers coming and going. The retail is back in full force but we did have hundreds of demonstrators who came out here today with an organization calling themselves the Chicago Alliance against racism and political repression. And they said they wanted to block stores. We saw them block the crate and barrel and nike and apple store. They made it difficult for people to come and go. They wanted to advance their cause and bring a lot of pressure for the creation of the Citizen Police Accountability Council and they did that and got a lot of attention to their cause. They advocated a lot of different causes, theres always that pileon effect and talking with some of the people out here, very active and eager to engage in this process. Did they vote . The answer was no. Very eager to be part of this process, not necessarily that eager to be brought to the political process. As you can see now, its back in retail full force. The demonstrations have dissipated. Thank you so much, who are these protesters hurting here . I want to go gop strategy, former Union Organizer and attorney christy they are out there in the streets protesting as you heard mike say. How are they advancing their cause at all . They are really not. You know, they are getting some coverage which media is getting people to hear what they have to say but noz an effective way to do what they would like to do. They are hurting the people who want to go shopping who are People Living in the neighborhoods with them. They want to go for black friday, not hurting businesses. And they dont really have their goals defined very well, they are all over the place in what they actually want to achieve here. They are protesting president elect donald trump and protesting racism and you know, saying that cops are being racist and targeting minorities. So they are a little bit scattered and then as we just heard, they are not out voting. Thats when they have the race to get the point across. They are making life difficult for anybody who wants to go and shop in chicago. If you think about it, their economy is critical to their well being, sometimes they lose sight of the big picture in all of this. If people cant get in and out of the stores, thats not good for the community. Youre right. Im from chicago and lived a matter of a couple of blocks from where they are protesting or where they were protesting. I want everybody to think about this number. This is a very powerful number. 47 is the representation of africanamericans between ages of 20 and 24 years old. Those folks are largely unemployed. The folks that are happened to be employed and may have a job, lucky enough to have that, they have to think about what these protesters are doing in terms of these individuals employment. I agree with the fact that the black lives matter theme largely hasnt had real policy prescriptions and way to get it done. Thats problematic on many levels. If they are going to do Something Like this, maybe they should say, lets bring all folks to the table to talk about these very systemic issues in our community. Youre getting back to sort of the root issue that all lives matter, not just black lives matter, we should bring everyone into the equation, improve life for everyone. Go ahead. The truth is that theres a specific need to protest officially sanctioned murder of africanamericans in our society. Theres a specific need in chicago to protest torture, forced confession, Police Beatings stuart, stuart, i think the studies have proven this one out. I have to point this out. Let me finish. Over and over again, in fact, we have this is ridiculous. You cut me off and i just started. This is ridiculous. If anything, Police Officers right now are the ones come on. 57 in the number how many need to be murdered before we see it as a problem . And yes, all lives matter but right now we have a specific problem with black lives. And im sorry, but there are isnt the answer that will you let me finish, make a point. Okay, finish but i want to point out the answer to that is not necessarily there is a policy recommendation in chicago and thats the protest against the mayors twoweek what youre demonstrating exactly what black lives matter does, theres no policy specific and you just yell. There is a policy specific. Chicago there is a policy very dangerous and think it vem bls that of many folks that protest like occupy wall street, im pretty sure you were a part of that movement. It gets nothing done. This has its roots in the picketing and boycotts of the Civil Rights Movement in the early and mid60s. Thats where this demonstration has its roots. Were on national tv talking about it and talking about the murder of black kids. That is a victory just that were raising it and talking about it. You see this as a plus because here they are commanding some time on national air waves not just that. Going on and looking at a live picture right now. Why do you put words in my mouth. Trish this is ridiculous. Forgive me, stewart, if thats not what you said. That thats not the only thing the protesters what are you trying to say then . The people is their city to look with compassion on black lives and black kids and africanamericans and to do something about systemic violence against africanamericans. The point the panel is making is there are other ways to do it. There are other ways that you should get out and vote. There are. Why are they taking to the streets to protest going about it in a sensible way. Very unfair. You pick out one or two people who didnt vote then say that to everybody. Thats very unfair and not accurate at all. Stuart, i would ask you join with me to come up with policy solutions to target i hope we need criminal justice reform. I would be happy to do that. Which im a part of and these are Law Enforcement officers and prosecutors, all of the folks that come together to make these very important decisions and i think if you have and im a lobbyist, i deal with it on a regular basis, on the hill when it comes to these issues, thats when we can actually get something done. Its important when its utilized in the correct way. Theres other ways in which you take that National Attention you just mentioned and get policy done. Thats a difference i agree, couldnt agree more. Im glad we could agree. Before we go to his point, if you want to raise awareness and say there are racial issues we have to address, you dont do it by adding more racial tension and saying were only going to block stores that have wait, wait. Being murdered and if you want to look at the facts, stuart that is an issue. And what is more important to protest than that. Good to have you all here. Thank you so much. Black friday protests, they are not stopping scenes like this. Take a look. Youve got shoppers all across the country today and actually battling it out for door buster deals sales expected to hit 20 billion today. In the thick of it at a macys in herald square. Reporter its crazy here. 27 billion is the expectation for sales today. Believe it or not it would only be the second busiest. The busiest comes the saturday before christmas, last minute shoppers. If you look at the numbers here, so much of this shopping is having online. Yesterday we saw nearly 2 billion in in online sales and this weekend its going to be about 9 billion. Its really such a small piece of the overall pie. How big is that overall pie . The National Retail federation says its 655 billion. Got it. How much of that is happening online . You wont believe this number. Its really such a small part, 17 , 111 billion, thats it . Can that be . That means shoppers arent coming into the stores but, trish, they are. Macys told me this morning 16,000 people streamed into the doors behind me and fortunately we caught up with some of them, listen. I will say this they are not aggressive towards you. Not so bad. I was expected it to be wall to wall people. It was worth coming out, but ten times the people in here. Crazy busy. People are a little touchy. The cashier was telling us about somebody took a shoe and hit somebody on the head with the heel of it. Reporter chaotic or not, im going to go with chaotic. Because the discounts are really good. The retailers know the brick and mortars that shoppers are armed with smartphones. We price compare in the store and compare everything to amazon. Com and you know what, amazon, trish, they started their black friday deals on november 1st. So as a result, you have average discounts of 60 here at macys at jc penny and kohls, the obvious question, how is black friday treating the retailers . They were discounted on wall street today. Ill show you the Major Department store chains and you can see they have down arrows, sears and jc pen knee and nord strom, just to name a few did you go shopping today at all . Not yet. Not yet. But you know thank you so much, lauren. Lets get to wall street right now. More records. The dow, the nasdaq and s p 500, all finishing the week at record highs. It also closed at an all time high, now up 13 just since the election. How is that for optimism. Are trump aides demanding a public apology before mitt romney before he can be seriously consider be for secretary of state . Plenty of protests against police today but whos protesting for them, for the police as they come under fire . Well see you back here in two. Tum tum tum tum smoothies only from tums do trump aides want mitt romney to apologize for saying things like this. Im not going to support donald trump as the candidate would you vote for Hillary Clinton . Im not going to vote for Hillary Clinton, for sure. Mitt romney, the 2012 president ial candidate im not going to sit out. Ill either vote for a conservative who runs or write in a name of a conservative. Our very own ed henry is reporting that some of the president elects Transition Team want a public apology from mr. Romney before hes seriously considered for the secretary of state position. He said pretty bad stuff and did that big speech out in salt lake. He didnt just not vote for donald trump but called hm a phony and fraul. Fraud. What im hearing from conservatives, he cant say my bad, never mind. He has to do something very public, apology, regret, something significant that says i got it wrong. You cant represent the president of the United States, not just here but abroad when you called him a phony and fraud. Do you think hes that close though . I have a new piece of information the last few moments. I talked to someone who says that president elect trump and mitt romney had been in phone contact over the holiday. Why is that significant . Well, the transition is still moving forward but they are sort of winding some of it to a holiday halt and saying the meetings pick up here in manhattan next monday, its holiday time. Im told donald trump is still working the phones and spoke to romney. It was not a call saying im out of the running. Hes still in the running and im told if he wants to be the secretary of state, there are people close to donald trump who want the public apology. There are people like Newt Gingrich who have been outspoken saying we carried a lot of water, we were there and loyal with donald trump and want Rudy Giuliani to be secretary of state. And giuliani was there all along, even some of the more difficult times. That said, as president , you want the guy or gal, whoever that is, that best for the job. If you stack up the accomplishments of mitt romney and Rudy Giuliani and maybe there are dark horses as well were not even talking about. General petraeus is one talked about for example, that could be a third way here. If the aides are locked in this dispute over giuliani and wall street journal this morning is saying it is a buiitter rivalry. Giuliani is being talked about as director of post 9 11, all of the accolades for Rudy Giuliani, the way he handled the issue of terror, however he is public in making the case hes visited dozens of countries and all of the International Business dealings and consulting hes been doing. Some of that brings up conflicts of interest but on the other hand, hes visited dozens of countries. Mitt romney has been pretty quiet since the 2012 campaign. In terms of who has a better resume, thats an open question. And obviously as president you want whoever is best. But i would also think theres a part of you that wants to be surrounded by people that will do what you need them to do and that includes some loyalty. And Kellyanne Conway tweeted during thanksgiving to say a key part of it is loyalty. That seemed to many like a shot at mitt romney and someone that close to the president elect saying maybe somebody more loyal. Who is that loyal person . Probably giuliani but there could be others as well. Its a big job and big position and it will be very interesting to see who he gives it to. Thank you so much. As president elect, donald trump continues to build his cabinet, liberals continue their attempt to build a case against his win. And now jill stein has raised enough money to fund recounts in three states. Where is all this going . Were on it. And the number of Police Officers shot and killed skyrocketing this year as these antipolice demonstrations continue. Who is actually protesting for the police . My name is pam. Im 51 years old. When i was diagnosed with pneumococcal pneumonia, it was huge for everybody. She just started to decline rapidly. I was rushed to the hospital. My symptoms were devastating. The doctor said, pam if youd have waited two more days, you wouldve died. If id have known that a vaccine could have helped prevent this, i would have asked my doctor or pharmacist about it. Oh, thats lovely. So graceful. The corkscrew spin, flawless. His signature move, the flying dutchman. Poetry in motion. And there it is, the baby bird. Breathtaking. A sumo wrestler figure skating . Surprising. Whats not surprising . How much money heather saved by switching to geico. Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more. Liberals refusing to give up. This time is is harvard law professor calling on the ee lectors to pick Hillary Clinton over donald trump when they meet. He writes, the winner by far of the popular vote is the most qualified candidate for president in more than a generation. Well, of course except she didnt win, right . President elect trump easily won the Electoral College. Whats that all mean . Get over it. Time to move on. Josh cohen disagrees. Im going to start with you, josh. What is it that you actually want to see done here . Well, thanks for having me, trish. First of all, lets not mischararats or liberals are looking for here. He is a little bit on his own. He is this is not part of a widespread movement by the Democratic Party to have the Electoral College reverse its direction. Thats first. Second this is not part of a widespread effort to what not have the to have the Electoral College vote the opposite direction, to have the Electoral College okay, thats good. Because that seems to me it would be irresponsible to encourage that. What i see from mr. Lessig is a little irresponsible. He writes, that it would be adding insult to the framers to let a candidate who lost the popular vote win the presidency saying that it is not meant to deny reasonable judgment by the people. It is meant to be a sir kit breaker in case the people go crazy. In the professors view, the people went crazy or at least Electoral College by allowing donald trump to get there. And to be clear, under no circumstances a
