The Business Community has spoken. This is not good for the president. No, and trish, this one really unravelled quickly. You think about the timing. Ken fraser, the head of merck, said he stepped aside from the president S Manufacturing council, a couple more ceos followed up after that. Yesterday the president responded in part on twitter by saying, suggesting hey, as they drop out, im able to fill their slots. Today also came the news reports this afternoon that a separate group, the strategy and policy forum, would be disbanding. That group made up of high profile ceos and people in the Business Community. At that point, the president said he was providing both cover. Heres what he wrote. He says rather than putting pressure on the Business People of the Manufacturing Council and strategy and policy forum, i am ending both. Thank you all with this parting message. The Democratic National committee took a victory lap saying these councils disbanded because of trumps failure to lead and the public pressure that followed. For those, an association with trump is toxic for many reasons. Trish, this is not the first time that ceos have decided to walk away from these groups. You might remember earlier this year, the head of uber stepped aside from the strategy and policy forum in response to the travel ban and earlier this summer, the leaders of tesla and disney walked away in response to the paris climate accord. Thanks, blake. People on the left organizing a Pressure Campaign to get ceos to drop. Protesters were at j. P. Morgan headquarters in new york city. Thats where we find ashley webster. Hey ashley. Hey, trish. When the protesters arrived and handed over six large boxes full of sheets of paper with signatures urging jamie diamond, the ceo of j. P. Morgan as well as Steve Schwartzman from the blackstone group, which is a member of the council or was, the chairman of the council, that was all a moot point. Prior this afternoon, the councils had been disbanded. But nevertheless, the folks here at j. P. Morgan shook hands with the protesters, took the boxes in. As i say before, no need to protest now. The councils no longer exist. Jamie diamond though earlier this afternoon putting out a statement that read in party, constructive economic and regulatory policies are not enough and will not matter if we do not address the divisions in our country. It is a leaders role in business or government to bring people together, not tear them apart. So loud strong message there from jamie dimon. From a business point of view, there was the argument that if youre on the president s council, you have a seat at the table. The potential to influence policy. Walking away you could argue is bad for the shareholders of your company. However, in this environment, maybe not so. Lets be honest, social media play as huge role. Not only for the tweeting from the president but those that attack the president s policies and actions. It is clear that if the councils had not been disbanded, those remaining ceos were going to be under a lot of pressure from social media, even talk of boycotts of those companies, those ceos represented. In the end, all much ado about nothing. It happened quickly indeed. Back to you. Theyre under pressure from social media and from their customers, shareholders and perhaps as well as they should be from their own moral compass. Were getting reaction to all of it from Charlie Gasparino and donald jay. During yesterdays show, im mistakingly said walmarts ceo had quit. He had criticized the president s remarks saying this was a missed opportunity but he never sad on the Manufacturing Council but was going to stay on the strategic and policy forum, so that is no more. So youre kind of right. Any apologies to doug and walmart on that one. Charlie, these women and men that were advising the president , they have to think, do they not, about their customers and about the tone that theyre setting and if they look as those theyre condoning this, that puts them in a bad spot . Right. We should point out that fox business was first to report that jamie dimon would make a statement to this effect. I know jamie dimon really well. I know steve wartsman and larry from black rock with the big ceos. Should points out a few things. Other ceos have resigned in the past but nothing as that was minor. This is fairly unprecedented for top ceos of the country to leave an Advisory Council where they can have some influence on policy. We should also points out that theyre not being cowed by george sorros. What they are worried about, point blank, is that as donald trump seems to appeal to a fringe of his base that he is unappealing to the vast majority of americans. Guess what . These folks, whether its jamie dimon at j. P. Morgan chase, larry fink that sells mutual funds and manages Pension Funds or Steve Schwartzman that rounds la quinta hotels, theyre worried about the taint of his approach and how that would affect their business. Theres a line that gets crossed. Thats when people say, okay, enough. Harlan, i know youre shaking your head. Lets face it, he had an opportunity to put this to bed. All he had to do is read the same statement he read before, even the one over the weekends, which he did at one point, but he didnt need to give any room for cover. Any room at all to this group of people that do not represent what america is about. By missing that opportunity, he has a lot of people saying hes either undisciplined or maybe theres Something Else going on. They dont want to be associated with it, harlan. Trish, the president in his defense has repeatedly unambiguously condemned the actions that took place in virginia repeatedly. He has repeatedly condemned david duke. What more does the mainstream media, what more do we on this panel want from him . Why did he engage yesterday . He was answering questions. Actually, you know, he hasnt repeatedly condemned david duke. He has since 2000 in 2016 let me finish. When he was asked in 2016 about david duke, guess what he said, hall harlan, he said he didnt know who he was. People are asking you can go back so youre saying he forgot about david duke . Charlie, i let you talk. You can watch the video from 2000 when donald trump absolutely condemned david duke and he did it again in the 2016 election and did it this week. Harlan, the point is hes losing people that matter. Brunell, when you lose the Business Community, what is that saying about your presidency . What kind of delicate position is he in now . Well, god bless you and God Bless America first. I will tell you this, the president as the leader of the free world, a lot of times youre going to walk alone. The people that were on these councils or advisories were fare weather friends. Ill tell you this, when you have heart set on something, goals and policies and things that will bless the entire nation, that will take us all to a different level, theyre going to be times when things are not sweet, when things are not cool. Those are the times when you know who is really in you corner. Who is on your team. You have no sympathies to the ceos that are saying this is a line that im not okay having crossed and that he shouldnt have he shouldnt have engaged in the way that he did with those reporters. The shareholders, they have customers. If i may respond, ill tell you this. The president blanketly decided that there were there was fault on both sides. You had the violence on the right and then you have these people throwing urine on your fellow journalists. There was wrong doing on both sides. Thats what we cant do. We cant a neonazi killed someone. Yes, somebody died. Killed by one of the right wing terrorists the parents of that young lady that passed away thanked the president for his concern and his condolences. Dont use that. Dont do that. Thats not right. I am going there. It will the neonazis that instigated it, it was the neonazis they were there with a permit. They had a right to be there. Im not giving they killed something are you condemning what they did . Youre throwing urine on your fellow journalists. What does it say about the future of its presidency . When you lose key people, Business People that care about your economic, your tax policy, et cetera . What does that mean for him . Its not good. Id say this. If you dont condemn a killing, if you equate throwing urine on a killing, youre out of your mind. Thats he condemned it all. He did. He did repeatedly. It took him a couple days there. No, he did immediately. On saturday. Theres no theres no profiles and courage here. All these ceos, which stayed with him for a long time through all of his nonsense, all of these corporate ceos are saying now, this is one step too far and its going to hurt our business. Average americans were going to leave it there. Thanks to the team. Attorney general Jeff Sessions and Thomas Holloman taking their fight of sanctuary city on the road. At san francisco, chicago filed lawsuits, Jeff Sessions and thomas homan turning to miami who is now complying with guidelines at detaining inmates targeted for deportation. They say its needed to combat violent crime. Were going to talk to the ice director in just a moment. First, to Steve Harrigan in miami who has the latest. Steve . The attorney general was at the port of miami speaking before Law Enforcement agents. He had high praise for officials of Miamidade County reversing their policy on sanctuary cities. He contrasted mike with chicago. The attorney general said because of chicagos sanctuary city policy. Since january here in Miamidade County, anybody in a county jail can be held for an additional 48 hours to be interviewed by ice experts if immigration status is suspect. 170 people have been turned over to ice because of that. The mayor has said the move is controversial. He made it because of possible loss of funding. He feared the loss of several hundred thousand dollars in funding from the federal government for Law Enforcement initiatives and equipment if he failed to comply with the rules. Trish, back to you. Thanks, steve. I want to go to acting ice director, thomas homan who just delivered the speech in miami. Give us a sense of the frustration you feel right now towards places like san francisco, like chicago . Well, you know, chicago and san francisco, they obviously dont learn theyre lessons on whats going on. Chicago, for instance, has the highest crime rate theyve had in years. Theyre doing everything they can to prevent the crime. I say theyre not. A certain population are illegal aliens. When they get booked, we dont have access to them. They go back on the street to reoffend. Theyre going to commit more crimes in chicago. Chicago should do everything they can to work with me to remove these people from the communities and the country. Instead . Instead, chicago, you know forgive me. Theres a little delay in our sound. Instead, youre seeing the antithesis of that. Theyre not working with you because why . Look, theyre making a political statement. Theyre putting politics ahead of Public Safety and officer safety. Theyre making an example i dont care what talking points they want to use or the message theyre sending. Every time a criminal walks out of jail, one of my officers has to walk on the door. Any officer will tell you that is a dangerous position to put a Law Enforcement officer in. These are men and women that serve ice every day, leave the safety of their homes and families to defend mare community and protect people theyll never meet. So for the politicians of chicago to knowingly choose, say were going to release the criminals. Its their ice problem. Its a bold attack on Law Enforcement and bold attack on the community. We look at the numbers today. I seen before i came to miami. Nearly 10,000 criminal aliens that have been released rather than turned over to ice, nearly 10,000 have recommitted another crime. Wow. This is a Community Safety issue, an officer safety issue. You know, chicago needs to wake up. What theyre doing is not right. So where does it go from here . Do you say look, if youre not going to comply, youre not going to get any money . Well, a couple things. First of all, the president has given us 10,000 more Law Enforcement officers for ice. Were in the process of hiring them. The first place im sending the Additional Resources are to sanctuary cities. So if they think theyre going to skirt the law be releasing them back, im going to send more officers to find them and remove then from the country. We also not only pulling funding a point was made by general sessions. The government is not pulling the funding. Its the mayor and the politicians that made the decision not to cooperate with us. Theyre the ones that are pulling their own funding. Cook county, they get million as year to help house illegal aliens. They wont turn them over to us. They go out and reoffend and will pay again. The third thing i talked to attorney general today about is, you know, we need to look at the jurisdictions, are they crossing a legal line . Are they committing a statutory crime by alien smuggling . A part of that law that says that if you harbor, conceal or shield illegal aliens from Law Enforcement, thats a crime. So ive asked the attorney general. We looked at this and finds out are the jurisdictions on the right side of the law. Im a big believener state rights, individual rights. But this is one that the federal law should supersede. We have a duty as a country to keep everyone safe. And to protect our borders. Absolutely. Were a sovereign country. We have a right to decide who comes in this country. You may not like the administration, but they have done a great job with the borders. Its not okay to violate the laws of the country. When you enter illegally, its a crime. Its not okay to think you can get by the Border Patrol without anybody looking for you. Ice is looking for you and were going to do our sworn job and were going to remove these people. Director homan, thank you. North korea may be backing down but were keeping our guard up. U. S. Forces in japan conducting military drills. Former director kirk lippold is here. And we have the First National interview with senator Luther Strange following last nights outcome. Thats coming up. Manage my symptoms. I thought i was doing okay. Then it hit me. Managing was all i was doing.
