A deal might not come on the dreamers. Theres not a deal ready to go by friday. So they have to decide over here in the senate if theyre willing to filibuster a shortterm spending bill. The 19th is the deadline. That would mean that government funding, if its not approved, would expire on the 20th, which is the Year Anniversary of course of President Trumps inauguration. They dont have anything ready on immigration. The pressure will be on. Republicans in the house will pass it, send it to the senate where all the republicans will support it and that will put all the pressure on democrats. If they vote against it, it will be on their shoulders if the government is not funded. So the bottom line, the democrats want the daca or the immigration stuff attached to whatever extending measure they come up with. Republicans are balking at that. Proposing this short term continuing resolution. Is there any middle ground, leeway ground . What are you hearing . The only middle ground at this point is if democrats can save face for themselves and say that progress is being made. So this week, i expect there will be more intense talks and you may see democrats coming out saying look, we feel ground is being gained here. Were getting more of what we want. They need to save face. Their base is getting frustrated. This is the fourth short term spending bill. People that are in support of the dreamers are pressuring democrats saying youre not going to vote for another one of these things because time is returning out. Theres the march deadline coming and they claim hundreds of socalled dreamers are losing their protected status every week. Theyre being pressured from their base. However, democrats alone will be responsible if the government shuts down. You know republicans always get blamed for this. Democrats have had some Comfort Level thinking well, if we vote about it, the republicans control congress. They control the white house. In this instance, i think that that is not assured that they would escape the blame. You can see President Trump tweeting today about it where hes belittling senator dick durbin about the daca deal, but hes also saying they would be responsible because they dont support increased military funding in the spending bill, which is another issue that is holding up an accord.
