FOXNEWSW Your World With Neil Cavuto October 16, 2019

Tomorrow. Kevin. You are right about that. The meeting that had been scheduled for tomorrow, neil, off according to nancy pelosi. The one that is underway is underway. Not sitting far from us here on our chair on the north lawn, passing details along, listening to the president both in the oval Office Availability and also the news conference, it is clear that he is resolute in his decision to take u. S. Troops out of northern syria. However, there is a great deal of dissent about that. Even some people on his side at the isle, Lindsey Graham disagrees completely. Let me take you to twitter, he had this to say about the president s decision today, going back and forth. Heres what he said at least in one suite, there have been several cut has as i mentioned, President Trump is being told exactly what president obama was told as he withdrew from iraq. And hell bent on making the same mistakes in syria as president obama made in iraq. But the president offended that decision this afternoon, noting that not only was there a small number of u. S. Forces that were removed, but the fact that the turks and the syrians have been fighting over the land for eons. It should have nothing to do with the u. S. In the middle of this. Heres what he said about the senator during that news conference. Lindsey graham would like to stay in the middle east for the next thousand years. With thousands of soldiers, fighting other peoples wars. I went to get out of the middle east. Lyndsay should focus on judiciary like the democrats. The donothing democrats as i call them. We have a situation where turkey is taking land from syria, syria is not happy about it. Let them work it out. We should not be over there. You heard the last thing he said. We should not be over there, let them work it out. That is his perspective. Speaking of being over there, mike pompeo and the Vice President himself mike pence will make their way to the region to express the president s views in person to president erdogan. As he invented, the white house did cancel and all corey congressional briefing that had been scheduled for tomorrow, Speaker Pelosi singh that that decision denies congress right to be informed as it makes decisions about the National Security. Another dull boring day here at the white house. Neil you were great today, going back and forth, the president , good stuff my friend. We will see what happens. In the meantime, the Vice President of the secretary of state, going towards president erdogan to declare a ceasefire when they meet tomorrow. The president saying, no ceasefire. That is erdogan, not happening. The former navy seal on hold. Where is this going . That is a good question. A lot of it has taken off. As President Trump has withdrawn some of those guys. Turkey has moved in. Now we have a conflict brewing, that is going to continue on, i think until syria and turkey work it out. The United States can apply pressure economically with other tools, but right now i think that our military peace is an option that is off the table. Neil the president took great offense, not appreciating the magnitude of what happened here, or that it was his doing. But if we had not withdrawn those troops were committed to withdrawing the troops, would any of this be happening . That is a big question. We dont know what happened behind the scenes. We dont know the call with president erdogan. Did erdogan say im coming in . Whether you are there or not, move these troops. We dont know all of the circumstances. I would prefer to have our troops out of harms way. Neil that was the president s thinking. Maybe he is the one that has been the vote for the American People if you argue that the American People are looking that he might be right about being in wars that go on and on and never a right time to leave. Im just wondering how all of this plays out to average folks. I think that they look at him and say, why, they ask the basic question, why are we there. If you go back to the doctrine, that was the last time we successfully executed a war until its end. What happened was, there were a couple of things in doctrine, how is this in the u. S. National security interest . How are we getting out of it so that we dont become entrenched . What is the exit strategy . Have we leveraged all of the elements of National Power . A couple of other things about aid. None of those things have been answered for the American People. We have gone from an authorization for use of military force post9 11 that got us into afghanistan. And that was used to get us into iraq. Then it was used and moved over into libya and syria. We just so overextended in Mission Creek that i dont think that the general u. S. Public knows what we are doing over there anymore. Neil you might be right, but im wondering what you make of the president. He has had singers with the kurds that are not that great, hoping to get us out of normandy, you heard all of this stuff. Saying that the ices heads in syria were released from prison just for effect. What you think of all of that . Not sure of some of the things that he lofted at the kurds are thats great. He often speaks not very eloquently. And needs to count his words a little bit better. There is some truth behind it. The kurds i cannot imagine that they are surprised by this. It is a marriage of convenience. We never said that we will defend you from turkey for eternity. Thats what you would need to do. Because the kurds are one country. They are inside of syria. They have a beef with turkey. And you are never going to get as soon as we leave, whether it is 50 years from now or tomorrow, turkey is going to come in and they will have a problem with the kurds. Now, does President Trump help things . Certainly not. He aggravates some things by making statements like that and throwing the kurds under the bus. They are not an ally. We have to remember that. They are not an ally. Turkey is the actual ally. If they are a formal ally of nato. Neil they are not acting like an ally, but we will see what happens. Dave sears, former navy seal commander, thank you for your Incredible Service to this country. The president pointed out that he is sticking to his guns and doubling down on his actions and syria. That does not really stop italys president today im sticking to his guns directly criticizing the actions in syria. And this time right to the president s face. Take a look. We are deeply concerned. With turkeys offensive in the northeastern part of syria. And this attack in a limited number has caused a number of casualties. And tens of thousands of refugees. This is an attack that also has another risk. Namely that of offering new space, which was unthinkable a few days ago to isis. Neil to Susan Gregory on the riff that is roaring allies around the world. Very unusual to see that kind of backandforth in the white house. What did you think of it . Yes, usually you have these heads of state very decorous to one another, but i think that it is riling our e. U. Allies, their western allies that the president of the United States and the Vice President have made a big deal about religious freedom in the area. Establishing u. S. Money going to the area. To protect against what the isis, that got us into back into the war in iraq during the Obama Administration was the slaughter of christian minorities in iraq by isis. What will protect those communities that we have been spending 350 million to protect and touting it as a big success . I dont, i think the president is really sending mixed signals here on this situation. He is now doubling down on his decision to go ahead and we dont know if it was a green lighting, or, he does seem to be supporting the sanctions again. Turkey, while at the same time, kind of coming down and saying that the kurds are no angels. He is trying to have it both ways, and sanctioning the cat once it is out of the bag is kind of a strange strategy. Neil not to risk alienating the president of italy, but right in harms way, you think about another drain, and it would be on the receiving end of the isis elements that make their way into his country, but Lindsey Graham is well with whom the president had a nasty backandforth said that of National Security disasters, do you agree with that . Hold on, one thing, nancy pelosi is speaking after meeting with the president. It comes at a very difficult time for him. Earlier today the house of representatives voted what . 35460 in opposition to the actions that he has taken in syria. It calls upon the president to urgently use exercise with restraint and for us to have unitarian assistant to some of the kurds children being killed there, and reaching support. Most importantly, it asks for a clear plan. On how we are going to avoid isis. That is both. 21 with the republicans voting to oppose what the president did. Probably getting to the president , because he was shaken up by it. And that is why we continue in the meeting, but he was just not relating to the reality. Again, we are proud of our men and women in uniform. Those who have been in syria have conducted themselves in a way that makes us very proud. And i can say that to the chairman of the chief. There are some questions about isis distinguishing leader from the north, from the senate from new york, talking about isis in the meeting. Thank you, speaker. I told the president that being from new york, as he was, that i was particularly aware of the problems that the terrorists that an organization like isis can create. And the fact that someone no less than general mattis has said that isis has been enhanced, that the danger of isis is so much greater worries all of us. I asked the president what his plan was to contain isis, and he did not really have one. He said that the turks and the syrians will guard the isis prisoners. I said, is there any intelligence evidence that the turks and the syrians will have the same interests that the kurds or weeded in guarding is isis . And the secretary of defense was thank god he was honest. He said we dont have that evidence. So i said, how can we think that this is a plan when there are syrians and turks who are not our friends, who isis if they escape, does them very little harm, how can we let this happ happen . They did not have any good answer. This is appalling. The president had no real plan for containing isis other than relying on the syrians in the turks. Then why do we spend a decade, billions of dollars, and lost lives in trying to curtail ice age if on a phone call, if on a whim, the president is going to undo all of that and turn it over to the turks and the syrians . I would also say one other thing. It was insulting, particularly to the speaker. She kept her cool completely. But he called her a third rate politician, and he said that there are communists involved. And you guys might like that. This was not a dialogue. It was sort of a diatribe, a nasty diatribe, not focus on the facts. Particularly the facts of how to curtail isis, a terrorist organization that aims to hurt the United States in our homeland. Thank you. Just briefly you will hear the the president say that we walked out. We were offended deeply by his treatment of the speaker of the house of representatives. The president in my view has created a crisis in the middle east. A crisis that undermines the confidence in america. This crisis requires a rational, reasonable discussion between those of us who have been elected by the American People to set policy. Unfortunately, the meeting deteriorated into a diatribe as senator schumer has said, and a very offensive accusations being made by the president of the United States. I have served with six president s, i have been in many, many meanings like this, never have i seen a president treat so disrespectfully a coequal branch of the government of the United States. I will yield to the speaker into the leader for questions. And one other thing, i think that the president was very shaken up by the fact that 350, 354, i had to make sure that i had the number correct. That means the majority of speaker majority of republicans voted 60 against the regulation, saying that the president only by withdraw. And lacking in giving our allies providence that we would stick with them. One point i want to make that i had not made a moment ago, so, leader mcconnell said that he thought the president s decision was wrong. He said it in strong terms. I beseech leader mcconnell to put the same resolution on the floor of the senate. It is a bipartisan resolution sponsored by senator menendez, a democrat. And senator from indiana, young, a republican. And we urge leader mcconnell, not just to condemn the president , but put the resolution on the floor. Because the safety of america, the safety of the kurds are in the hands of one person. President trump. And the best way to pressure him is a strong bipartisan resolution such as past the house to undo the damage he has done. On the part of the president it was a meltdown. I have to say. Reporter you just said that the president is not able to it was not coming up. Reporter he called you a communist . Yes, he did. Reporter madame speaker he said that the communists are taking over some of isis was communist. And that neil all right, that is a pretty Interesting Development that just happened at the white house. A meeting with congressional leaders including the top democrats. A lot of republicans as well. Cut short when the president and nancy pelosi seemed to get into a tiff over this situation in syria. And the president moved that an overwhelming margin in the house were repudiated. 35460 that he botched it on syria. And the troops ignited a crisis that couldve been avoided. And left isis loose on the world, so to speak. Continuing to monitor that. In the meantime, we have the House Intelligence Committee member Chris Stewart joining us. On the fastmoving developments. We had you on our other offices, congressman. I would appreciate your thoughts on the syria blow up and if the president did botch it, and many of your colleagues agree. I would say that this is an incredibly complicated part of the world neil what do you not agree about . 354 congressmen and women overwhelmingly said, we see what you did in syria and we think it was a mistake. We condemn it. I think the word botch is a little bit strong. Neil what would you call it . The reason i voted for was primarily the call for a ceasefire. That is an appropriate thing to do. If you let me explain it, its worth taking a moment. You have seven or a dozen different forces. You have the iraqi kurds, the steering kurds, the iranian forces. The u. S. Forces. Isis. It might keep going on, and it might be that the president s policy might prove to be right. But i have expressed great skepticism about that from the very beginning. He might be able to pull the rabbit out of the hat here. And to right this thing. Neil but you voted against the measure, sir . No, i voted for it. Neil so you share Lindsey Grahams concern that the president has an under National Security davis asked her in the making . Like i said, i have expressed great skepticism. I think the rollout in the communication of this was certainly unfortunate, and if you would have educated many of us on it, some people wouldve supported it. But we are going to have to see. At this moment, i have grave concern. But again, and might be that it proves to be the right policy, but it is going to take some fixing in order to get us to a success. I think that we can do that, by the way. I think working with congress, we can actually affect the outcome from here and end up in a better place than we are right now. Neil it obviously got nasty, it is the political era, and an election year, and people get a little bit tense and say things they forget, do you think whatever nastiness developed between the president and nancy pelosi will be tough to dial back . I might be, it is an election year, we hear all sorts of nonsense from people, and the emotions are very high in the middle of the impeachment and other things. But ms. Pelosi before she saw any evidence, she said that this president , he has betrayed his country. He has betrayed his oath of office. He has betrayed National Security. Those are pretty strong words as well, maybe both sides could be a little bit more kind in their interactions with each other. Neil we shall see, congressman, thank you for your patience in the breaking news. Congressman chris spirit from the committee of utah. And lets get to this from tom steyer, i think the name will ring a bell, he will be joining us, the billionaire democrat running for president. A lot of people commenting on how democrats that respond to this latest syria news. E his view on this and the tie that caught my attention last night. After this. You talking to .
