Sfo, 57; livermore, 61 and it will creep up today as you head out of the door, there is drizzle around this morning, more this morning than yesterday morning and cloudy skies around the bay and inland. You want to warm up, san hoa a good bet at the santa fe summer fest. Its sunny and warm in the south bay. That is ocean beach there, a sunless start to the sunday. Warmer inland and mid80s inland this week. Well be up to 87 degrees and that is by monday and tuesday, tomorrow. The satellite radar is showing this is the low pressure giving us the cool weather and a good onshore push of the marine air and heading to the north. As it does, it will allow the High Pressure that was over the dessert southwest, the same high that gave us the record highs a month and a half ago. That high will numb back into the bay area a bit and so, it will warm up a little bit. Just to prove to you that its summer out there somewhere, we have the temperature highs forecast in the 80s and out in the opener sew seaboard. All the way to 81 degrees in new york and 90 at the nations capitol. Pleasanton, 80 and 83 at antioch. In the north bay, nice. Snow valley, 69 degrees and 77 at san rafael. In the extended forecast, take heart. Looking for numbers to warm slowly, especially inland and around the bay into the low and mid70s all week and into next weekend, guess what . Fairly typical week. Warming up. And i am boring. Yes. And was not paying attention. Youre not the only one. Thank you. Negotiators for b. A. R. T. And the unions are meet again today at 1 00 p. M. For more of a perspective, we talk with james fang, a member of b. A. R. T. s board of directors. We asked him first about the governors plan to seek a 60 day cooling off period. I think its highly likely that it will be granted. I do want to commend the governor for taking a step to come in and put pressure on both sides. One of the things that is lacking in this negotiation and there hasnt been enough pressure from the outside. We opted for tactic for the board not to get involved. Why . You know, i am not sure exactly. I think there was a sentiment that the board might be weak and cave in. On the other hand, you know, we have the risk of 400,000 people stranded and not to mention the 73 million. I think after the hearing, there will be negotiations at 1 00 and i plan to go go to them. If its not reached within 60 days, i think the board needs to get involved. We have members on the board that have four, five sessions, five terms of labor negotiations. How to navigate the very, very complicated labyrinth. Right. You have been in the news for two decades. How have things gotten contentious now . Seems like its worse than ever. That is why we need to get involved. One of the problems, its become a personality situation between the negotiators, you know. Our negotiators and labor just dont seem to be melding quite the way. And thomas hockey . Absolutely. A lightning rod of controversy . He has been. And why do you still have him as your chief negotiator . I think its hard to change course medway through, but i think one of the obligations of the board is to get in and get involved. Sometimes sometimes the way we have the situation set up, we give the negotiator parameters and let him go and do his job. But, the negotiations are a little give, a little take. We do need the money for expansions and the mop fer the core system. One of the things we also have that is different from what i have seen, we have like 100 million surplus every year. And why in the hand that over . That is a talent. Not giving them, but a balance. 95 ontime performance and there has to be a balance. The board, the governor, the mayor of San Francisco, everyone has to step in and put the pressure. The unions requested that instead of 9 00, to have the hearing at 1 00 for the court. Is that possible . Were waiting. The whole situation is unprecedented. Yes. And this morning. To be candid, i admire labor to try to extend it to get a deal until the very end. Were going to hold tight. Were going to be working to the very end but give them credit. They want to extend that. I mean, you know, realistically. Reporter cant agree more, but at this point, you never know. Everyone is positive. Can we talk briefly about if it is there is a strike, once the 60day cooling off period ends in october, why not prepare for it a little bit better . You have 60 days. Can we get more buses . You had people lined up. The busy ran out. We plan to double the bus this time. Were planning if they struck. That would give us 10,000 riders and we have 400,000 passengers. There is not enough buses or ferry boats. The only people that are able to get over are the ones that drive. Oh. And let me ask you a few basic things is there a zero percent chance of a b. A. R. T. Strike tomorrow . Extremely low. Yes. And were going to find out when Governor Brown is going to say. Its going. The Court Hearing is starting in 11 minutes. Okay. And its locally the judge is going to issue the 6060day cooling off period the governor requested and that will give everyone some time to chill out and hopefully do the negotiations. My understanding, every time its come to a governor asking for a coolingoff period, its been granted. Yes. And its very likely. Unprecedented. Right. And it sounds like were not going to have a lot to worry about tomorrow. Correct. And that is good news. The bottom line for a lot of people. Yes. We dont have to prepare or have the plan bs for tomorrow mornings commute. Stay tuned for october, though. Coming up, one more look at a pricey preschool. Yeah, what bay area parents get for a whopping 22,000 a year. ,,,,,,,,, post offices. But dozens of people are fig. U. S. Postal service is trying to cut losses by closing post offices. But dozens of people are fighting to keep one berkeley location in business. Y that still there. Protestors rallying against the sale of this percently post office this weekend. And this is a historic building. Big money. And 10, 15 to 20 people have been camping out in front of the post office the past few weeks. The spokesperson said the protestors dont move soon and they could be arrested. How much would you pay to send your 3 or fouryearold to proschool . How is 22,000 . That is the price of the new preschool opening on union avenue in cambrian park. Kpix 5s mark circumstance era has more on why the program cost so much. Reporter if you look closer, you will notice the decidedly smaller feel, toy trucks in a sand dune and outdoor play gym. On the inside, wellsupplied cottagestyle classrooms. Although its 22,000 for the fullday program, there are many programs out there that are still in the same ballpark. Reporter andrea heart is the director of the harker preschool and said the price tag is justified for the comprehensive educational and Early Childhood Development Program being offered here. Academics are something focused on and there are other things to focus on. Parents are coming to us about the question and tell us about the wellrounded education youre providing for the children and about the many experiences theyll be able to have . Were in one of the preschool classrooms. What does your money buy for one . They will rotate through supplied rooms for everything from art and music to stem or Science Technology and math. The young child is the natural the scientist in the way they approach the world. Robin stone is harkers stem specialist. And so, in this stem lab here at the preschool, the children will be able to explore those concepts that are of natural interest to him. Reporter the campus is set on eight acres formerly the santa clara childrens shelter. Harker completely remodeled the facility and said there is a market for highend preschool. And parents are asking for a highquality person they can believe in. Im mark sayre, kpex 5. They will kpix 5. The Current School runs from kindergarten through high school.
