Time legislation we cannot get them even to the negotiating table and I say it's very strongly the Democrats' fault the practice of separating children from their parents at the border is the result of a policy change by the trumpet ministration under a deer 0 tolerance approach adults suspected of crossing the border illegally are referred to prosecute for prosecution and detained as a consequence they're separated from their children the policy is also affecting families seeking asylum the c.e.o. You've seen News in the North Fork Valley 2 different environmental problems actually may offer solutions to the other that's according to a scientist working with conservationists and stakeholders in the coal and natural gas industries as part of the Western Slope resources reporting project k.v. N.f.c. Eric Gould has more from pe Onya ever since there were gold mines in the north for valley there has been the problem of what to do with methane byproduct that continues to pour into the atmosphere at the pay only a dam another problem threatens the climate of the North Fork Valley years and years of mud and silt have built up against the dam creating a thick clay that is rapidly filling up the reservoir now an innovative scientist and the North Fork coal methane working group have come up with a possible solution to both problems Chris Caskey is a scientist and entrepreneur in Denver he has pitched the idea of using the methane gas from the coal mines in the valley to fire of ns that can be used to make bricks out of the clay from the pail near reservoir actual bridge project came about through the North Fork coal mine not a working group or 2 years something that were organized by Delta County and going to the county is the bunch of stakeholders brought to you either to address the question of natural gas that's leaking out of the coal mines is the coal that saturated with natural gas so as a mine and after they buy it comes out so you know there's a number of reasons that it doesn't make sense financially to try to clean the stash up and put it in the pipeline it also doesn't make sense financially to turn it into electricity unless you have a buyer who's going to pay a premium for that electricity. To mitigate the pollution which you really need to do or is just burn it and turn the natural gas industry over to burn water yes you have to is also a pollutant but it's much less. As a greenhouse gas than natural gas flush method and turning claim to breaks requires a great deal of heat which makes the burning of the methane an ideal for these purposes the 1st step in the process was for a cascade to determine if the clay in the reservoir made good bricks were fortunate that the sediment entailing the reservoir is the high quality clay and firing clay into bricks or bowls of pottery tile something like that that's a very energy intensive process you have to take the clay up to up above us 1000 Celsius really close to 2000 Sara high to get the clay to mature into a brick but there's plenty of energy to do fast and then you know myself being a material scientist I said let's explore that a little bit further got a couple buckets full of mud from town year as of or and took them back to the lab to turn them into bricks and that works down to we are making some what appear to be decent quality bricks and that we're stressed starting to look at asked markets you know we're solving 2 problems right semester and problem and the mud problem but it doesn't become a good idea until you're also solving the Huston as problem and as there's actually something out there who wants to purchase these materials and yourself Caskey believes that the idea to use methane byproduct from coal mines to provide the heat to make breaks out of reservoir sediment is unique as he mentioned find a market for the brakes is a major hurdle to the idea further the brakes have only been made on a small laboratory scale for it to be in any way profitable the process would have to be taken to a much larger scale but we have made them at a pretty small scales and I kill can fit one brick at a time and it takes 12 hours to buy I hold it at temperature for 24 hours and another 12 hours to cool down so I can make one break every 2 days which is not not a. Factory by any means but I do think we can build the pilot plant in the North Fork the small like one pound per day type factory a big modern factory is about a 1000000 bricks a week and not with take some real time to get to that scale but I think we can make or make the small modern factory or small factory in the next year or so Caskey owner of the Delta brick in climate company will next apply for grant money to fund an operation that can produce the breaks on a small scale in the North Fork Valley for Western Slope resources reporting I'm Eric Gould.
