Were hearing that barricaded inside there, theyre negotiating with him or persons inside by bullhorn. Inside is that most wanted man in the world right now, Salah Abdeslam. Suspected of being the eighth friday night. Officials say the 26yearold Salah Abdeslam, is one of three brothers involved. One brother died in the massacre. The other detained in belgium the day after the attacks. But abdeslam is believed to have escaped to this area of belgium. A subyou are b known to send more isis fighters than any other in europe. They picked up his trail after finding a car that had been used in the attack. They said he took a different car to brussels. En route, he was pulled over at a routine traffic stop but not detained. He made it across the border. Abc news learned there were two other people were in the car with him. What weve heard so far, one loud bang. No police movement. In the iraqi intelligence warning, they also warned about plots in the United States. And so thats, i think, what intelligence officials, homeland, fbi, now are looking very closely at. We have over 900 investigations actively in the United States. In all 50 states. Do you believe there are isis sympathizers directed by syria in the United States right now . We have arrested over 70 isis followers over the last year. Thats more than one per week. I think europe has a far more serious threat than the united ststes. We have hundreds of americans who traveled from the United States to syria and iraq to fight and train. 50 of those have come back. Those e rsons are being monitored as we speak. And that has many people concerned about the president s plan to bring in up to 10,000 new refugees from syria. You have governors of two states, alabama and michigan, saying they wont take in Syrian Refugeeses what should be done right now . I think the president should suspend that program. Put a moratorium on it. Until we can have assurances. It could be done from a security and safety standpoint. To vet these individuals. When i talk to the fbi and homeland officials, they dont know who these people are. On the other hand, if were going to do this, we have to do it right and make sure its done with security in mind. Supposed to be one of the shooters of the restataants and cafes in paris friday night. Right now, proceeding with extreme caution. They would want to take him alive. But hes considered armed and very, very dangerous. He could have booby trapped the whole area. Police standing off to loud bangs, separated by about ten, 15 minutes just in the past half an hour. Abc news has confirmed there were two other occupants in the car. He made it apparently here to belgium, to this neighborhood of molenbeek, known as the hotbed of jihadism. Government here very, very concerned about the number of terrorist plots have been traced back to this area. And right back down that street. Were told they have the eighth attacker from the paris attacks trapped inside a building and right now, as we speak, some kind of police movement. Two bangs in the past 45 minutes or so. Unnerving sound of firecrackers. You have to wonder why anybody would set off firecrackers in paris now. Police are investigating that. Theres a significant Security Threat in the city. Lara . All right, matt, thank you so much. Those feelings of fear and concern are not just isolated to paris. People are concerned all around the world. Joining us now to talk about how to cope with them is psychiatrist dr. Janet taylor. So good to have you here. Thank you. Cannot imagine. Cant begin to imagine what it must have been like to actually have been there. Even if you were not there, the fear that many of us have and it just plays with your mind. Its real. Our brains are wired to constantly assess for our safety or whether we should flee. You have a horrific event that happened. That disruption puts you on edge. And for good reason. The reality is, most of us have either witnessed or suffered or been exposed to trauma youll have a reaction to it. The uncertainty that were all feeling are normal. A loud sound. A thought. A threat. Triggers the feelings over and over again. When they were having those vigils and the firecrackers went off. The fireworks, you saw the reactions. So natural. Ordinary, you go, that sounds like something. For them, they were there, many of them. Its like, oh, no. Here we go again. Here we go again. Were talking about adults. Our reactions. My children were watching on friday. Their big question was, could it happen here . What do we say as parents to our children . You tell the truth. The reality is, we dont know what could happen. You can say, that must make you feel a certain way. You cacashare your own feelings. Talk about a safety plan. Do something good. Do something. Help other people. But for kids, think about it, talking to them in a way that is ageappropriate. We dont want to scare them. We want them to be sure of the reality. Why we lock our doors, wear seat belts, know where the fire exits are. Uncertain. But here are ways that you can be safe. One of those things that you can do is certainly to teach them from an early age how to balance themselves when they feel anxiety. Share your own times when you have coped and found healthy resources and help them be able to find those same tools. Ageappropriate is so important. Its didnt for different ages. It is. And certainly, theyre exposed to things with smartphones and television. We think that because theyre exposed, they know on a certain level. Keep it simple. Ask them how they feel. Let them talk to you. Answer in a way that doesnt scare them, but informs them. You just made a great point. Listen to them. D. Dr. Taylor and i were talking about this before everybody came over. How we cope. Were all being inundated with all the information. Viewers, us. Things like flying. I never worried about. But need to tomorrow. Im scared. You know . Heres the thing. Terrorism is primarily psychological. People have lost lives and do not want to discount that. But its the normalcy. The things you take for granted. Youre going for a walk. Youre going on the subway. Youre going on the subway. Youre taking your kids out and something could happen to you. That is real. That aftermath. But the focus is to think about your own ways that you keep yourself safe. Think about your own strengths and resources that you have. Primarily, your mind. You start feeling the terror or feelings, acknowledge it. But say, im going to be okay. I flew last night from l. A. I had the same feelings. You did . Of course. You look around. You have safety checks. Brad garrett was saying, you have to its a new reality. But its not easy to do. Because you bring up very good points. We have always heard, the terrorists win if we change our lifestyle. But its hard not to when youre gripped so soon from Something Like this happening. We cant afford to change our lifestyle. We have to work. Our kids have to go to school. There are things that we have to do. Its important to acknowledge the feelings. Not what youre thinking but the feelings. Focus on what your strengths are. If you need to talk to somebody, call a friend. If you need to pray, pray. If you need to talk to a therapist, talk to a therapist. Its about coping in healthy ways. Exercise. Find support. Do those things that you like to do. And realize that youre not alone in it. These, for the most part are small events that happen. We have other daily disruptions and traumas that happen in our lives. Most of us are safe. And thank goodness that we are. Thats so helpful. Thank you. We hope it helped you at home as well. In this pan, ive blazed some chopped sweet poetatoes and made them nice and shiny by having the kids pick the ingredients from the market, that helps to get them into the idea that they might taste what you have made at home. Cabbage, a beautiful color. The idea is to use cold weather ingredients. This is not a long recipe. Paj, lets saute it in the olive oil and set in smashed cloves of garlic and some salt. How long you to saute . Literally just until its wilted. When its wilted take a lit bit of the sweet potatoes. Is this acorn squash . Well serve wit the cabbage, pine nuts, raisins. In this dish, we have roasted the, simply, open the squash. This is delicata. We cut it in half. Scooped out the seeds. The acorn squash, a touch of butter. A little bit of honey. This is called kibocha squash. Not only for the cornucopia it makes a full meal. S toed with sauteed swiss chard. Wild rice. A nice bite to it. Lemon and olive oil starts to bring out the flavors. In the cold weather, makes it that does look really good. Save my plate, please. By scooping and filling, a table. Actual squash. I highly recommend them. So easy to make. Tell us about the soup. Let me begin by thanking the president and the people of turkey for their outstanding work in hosting this g20 summit. Antalya is beautiful. The hospitality of the turkish to our turkish friends [ speaking turkish ] i have been practicing that. At the g20. Weve been focused on growing economies and jobs for our people. Growth has to be inclusive to address the rising inequalitity throughout the world. Given growing cyberthreats, we have set up new rules. A commitment not the engage in the cybertheft of intellectual property for private gains. We pledged to Work Together for a successful outcome in paris. Of course, much of our attention is focused on the heinous across the world, in the United States, american flags are at half staff in solidarity with our french allies. Were working closely with our French Partners as they pursue investigations and track down suspects. France is already a strong counterterrorism partner. Were streamlining the process by which we share intelligence and military operation with france. This will allow our personnel to pass threat information to our French Partners. We have to protect against more attacks and protect our citizens. Tragically, paris is not alone. By isil in beirut, last month in ank ra, and routinely in iraq. We have sent a message here at the g20. Waer united against this threat. Isil is the face of evil. Our goal as i have said many times is to degrade and ultimately destroy this bar bashicbash ic barbaric organization. We have a strategy to use all elements of our power. Military. Economic. Development, the strength of our communities. We have always understood this would be a longterm campaign. There will be successes. The terrible events in paris are a setback. As we grieve with our french friends, however, we cant lose sight that there has been progress being made. On the military front, our coalition is intensifying our air strikes, more than 8,000 to date. Were taking out isil leaders. Commanders. Their killers. We have seen that when we have an effective partner on the ground, isil can and is pushed back. So local forces in iraq backed by air power liberate d sinjar. Iraqi forces are fighting to take back ramadi. We have stepped up our support of Opposition Forces working to cut off supply lines to isis strong holds. So in short, both in iraq and syria, isil controls less territory than it did before. I made the point to my fellow leaders, that if we want this progress to be sustained, more people need to step up with the resources this fight demands. The attacks in paris remind us it will not be enough to defeat isil in syria and iraq alone. Here in antalya, weve committed to sharing more information and stepping up efforts to stem the flow of foreign fighters in and out of syria and iraq. As the United States showed in libya, isil leaders will have no safe haven anywhere. The best voices to discredit i isils warped ideology. On the humanitarian front, our nations agreed we have to do more individually and collectively to address the agony of the Syrian People. The United States is the largest done donor of aid to the Syrian People. Were donating additional supplies including clothing and generators through the united nations. The u. N. Appeal for syria has less than half the funds needed. Today, im again calling on more nations to contribute the resources this crisis demands. In terms of refugees, its clear that countries like turkey, lebanon, and jordan, which are already bearing an extraordinary burden, cannot be expected to do so alone. At the same time, all of our countries have to ensure security. As president , my First Priority is the safety of the american people. Thats why, even as we accept more refugees, including syrians, we do so after subjecting them to rigorous screening and security checks. We have to remember many of them are the victims of terrorism themselves. Thats what theyre fleeing. Slamming the door in their faces would be a betrayal of our values. Our nations can welcome refugees desperately seeking safety and ensure our own security. We can and must do both. Finally, we have begun to see some modest progress on the diplomatic front. Which is critical because a political solution is the only way to end the war in syria and unite the unite the Syrian People and the world against isil. The vienna talks mark the first time that all the Key Countries have come together, as a result, i would add, of american leadership, and reached a common understanding. With this weekends talks theres a path forward. Negotiations between the Syrian Opposition and the Syrian Regime under the auspices of the united nations, a transition toward a more inclusive representative government, a new constitution followed by preelections and alongside this political process a ceasefire in the civil war even as we continue to fight against isil. These are obviously ambitious goals. Have been dashed before. There are any number of ways that this latest diplomatic push could falter. There are still disagreements between the parties including most critically over the fate of bashar assad who we do not believe has a role in syrias future because of his brutal rule. His war against the Syrian People is the primary root cause of this crises. What is different this time and what gives us some degree of hope is that, as i said, for the first time all the major countries on all sides of the syrian conflict agree on a process that is needed to end this war. And so while we are very cleareyed about the very, very difficult road still ahead, the United States in partnership with our coalition is going to remain relentless on all fronts, military, humanitarian, and diplomatic. We have the right strategy and were going to see it through
