The Police Bargaining Union says it fully backs officer lucas jones and feels confident that a grand jury will not indict him. Officer jones pulled over Jerime Mitchell early on november 1st. The stop led to some kind of altercation, where officer jones shot mitchell. Mitchells vehicle eventually crashed in a parking lot on the coe college campus, not far from downtown cedar rapids. His family says mitchell is paralyzed from the incident. Bargaining union said it doesnt have more information than what the public has. Local attorney peter riley from Tom Riley Law Firm says a county attorney normally calls on a grand jury when there is a sensitive issue. But he wants to see a different approach. A waterloo man is awaiting sentencing for a lesser charge for fatally shooting a man in 2012. Orlando moore junior pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and first degree robbery. He originally faced 3rd degree kidnapping. Robbins grabbed an 11 Year Old Girl in march of 2015. Police say robbins forced the girl to go behind a house. They say he admitted planning to sexually abuse her. But the girl was able to escape. A man from des moines faces charges this morning for a chase and crash that sent a young girl to the hospital. A trooper tried to pull over morning. Thats when troopers say he sped away. That started a chase that led into and out of solon on highway one. The patrol says rangle crashed the car in the 57 hundred block of 160th street around 10 30. The young girl was also in the car.
