White House correspondent Tamara Keith Hello All right let's start at the beginning here on September 25th the White House says just released a transcript of President Trump's July 25th phone call with Ukraine's President Trump asked for a favor and then brought up investigating the Bidens and the 26000 election can just remind us what did the White House have to say about that call the White House said it was a perfect phone call essentially nothing to see here absolutely perfect phone call with the new president to be afraid that was a 1st to call and the remarkable thing is how little has changed here was President Trump today I had a perfect conversation with the president the right person he just really does keep saying that same thing and has really adapted to what has been a rapidly shifting story outside of the specifics of the phone call yeah and another line that we keep hearing from the president and from the president's allies is that there was no quid pro quo there was no quid pro quo of what will go with pro quo at all what the White House is saying is that there was absolutely no exchange of favors whatsoever Right so on the very 1st day when that call was released the White House accidently sent its talking points to a lot of people who they shouldn't offend them too when they got released in the very 1st line of those talking points say no quick. I know this sounds weird but Clinton look what he did what he did is he had a war room he had people that were focused on fighting the impeachment so that President Clinton could focus on being president and that's what Lindsey Graham argues President Trump needs to do but here's the thing. News this is All Things Considered I'm Audie Cornish and I'm else itching almost one year ago on October 27th Berry worker was hiding in a storage room at the Tree of Life Synagogue as he listened to gunfire on the other side of the door he said he was on the phone with 911 operators but was unable to breathe much less speak to them when it was all over 11 congregants were dead police say the shooter was a man who had expressed views before entering the synagogue Barry Weber joins us now to reflect on that day last year thank you very much for taking the time to talk to us it is my obligation not so much my pleasure but my obligation to. The anniversary of the shooting is this upcoming Sunday and I was hoping can you talk a little bit about what it's been like to try to move through this past year. I can say that it has been bittersweet. The bitterness in not seeing the members of our congregation that we always saw on a weekly basis but specially this holy season and I happen to be a member of the choir at our synagogue and not only that to be in a different building with different surroundings but to look across the altar where the rabbi stands and not see 2 of the 3 faces that I would normally see there was very very on holiday. To me it was a very emotional time for me it's going to be hard to go through the coming years without them. I I understand that earlier this me you decided that it was time to walk over and enter the Tree of Life Synagogue again what made you want to go back and be up close to that place well I had been given a kind of a gentle push by a gentleman named Daniel Agger who had been injured in the original shooting and he had been asked a similar question as to how he can go on how he can go forward and if he could ever go back into the building and his answer was I can't allow the shooter to control my life going forward. That struck a note with me so with my psychologist and with my faithful wife and with the security person who happens to be a vice president of Tree of Life building I walked into the building and what was that like for you to walk in for the 1st time since last October I paused going down the steps because that's where I was brought face to face with the reality of the shooting to begin with. One of the young men who were skilled actually his body was on the steps. And I was taken by the arm by the security guard he said you can take the elevator down I said no if I don't go down the steps I'll never get I'm never accomplish what I want to do right. So I went down the steps I walked into our room. It was quite a
