It is 6 08 am august labor day monday and it is a beautiful start across eastern iowa, the sunrise right now over the city of cedar rapids, some of the clouds in the sky. There is also a warm start with temperatures in the 60s. It is already 66 in waterloo come 64 dubuque, and 66 and the core. We have some warmer air that has moved and so throughout the day, youre really going to be feeling like it is summer once again and we had a taste of fall are back into the heat and humidity with temperatures climbing to 80 at noon, 85 by 3 00 today, and we do have some moisture in the atmosphere, which is indicated here are by the showers and storms moving through portions of the state this morning. Mainly north of highway 20 and really just and portions of western and central iowa but in parts of eastern iowa, we are seeing showers and storms north of new hampton and Chickasaw County and we could see some of this this morning but there is another chance later on this afternoon that we could see showers and storms close to noon time, north of highway 20, really the area that i think is going to be impacted by the rain today. It should be very brief in nature, and most of the day will be dry. Otherwise warm air will move in with winds out of the south and they will be kicking at about 10 Miles Per Hour to 20 Miles Per Hour so it will be present but it is going to b associate with a storm system that will likely stall over the midwest, over the next couple of days, leading to multiple rounds of showers and storms. As the front thieves creeps closer, rain chances will increase through the middle of the week and the highest chances are going to be later on tuesday night, into that is when we will start to see showers and storms developing and we could see some tomorrow afternoon, but the highest chances are going to come on wednesday. Because we have so much moisture in the atmosphere, it is going to lead to the potential for heavy rain, flash flooding a concern, and some river flooding could occur after we have the heavy rainfall in Northern Iowa a couple of weeks ago. There is that concern for some of the rivers. By about wednesday night, we could be talking on about inches to 1 inch of rain areawide and the models are syrian ruling in that the Northern Area could see the heaviest rain but we still have time to really determine where the heaviest rain will fall. There are some uncertainties but as we go through the end of the week, another chance for rain on friday will bring the potential or possibly an additional 1 inch of rainfall areawide. Flooding could be a concern this week. Heavy rainfall potential definitely exists but for now it is pretty calm, mostly dry day, pretty warm and muggy with temperatures falling close to 70 degrees, and areawide, tonight, muggy conditions will last through the day today, through the night, and over the next couple of days. The chance for rain increases the week, with widely scattered showers and thunderstorms. We will have a break, in between systems on thursday, so we will have dry time and then the rain chances go up on friday but the light that likely leads to drier and fall like air moving back into the area by this weekend.
