Thanks aaron, now were taking a look at some of the taking a look now were taking a look at some of the heavy snowfall around the state. This is in mason city one of the hardest hit areas. The National Weather service says they got about 8 inches snow. Now heres a look at des moines. They didnt get nearly as much snow but you can in great shape. Most roads in the surroudning area had many wet slushy areas m ming it tough f f drivers. As parts of the midwest are digging out from snow, parts of the southeastern United States will be surveying tornado damage this morning. This is video of a funnel cloud caught on camera inin western alabama last night. Tornadoes also touched down in east mississippi. Several homes were damaged. The tornadoes downed power lines and even left damage at a federal prison. But there were no deaths and only minor injuries reported. Results are in this morning from several Corridor School bond special elections. Elections. We begin with the College Community School District in n dar rapids. For the second time district leaders asked voters to approve a nearly 50million dollar bond measure for infrastructure improvements. 68percent of voters approveded the e measure i ineeded only 60percent to pass. The School District is very happy with the additional 49 andahalf Million Dollars in additional funding. They say it will go to classroom space and address safetytysecurity and schools. Corridor residents in that district braved the elements to cast their vote. Voter turnout far exceeded what officials expected. They believev turnout would be low due to the weather. It really tells that the people are interested in whats going on and tyre showing up to vote. Vote. The weather did push back opening the polls from 7 in the morning to noon. In springville a similar bond measure approving fourpointseven Million Dollars in funding passed. It received 65percent support t it also need 6060percent. In waterloo voters rejected a school bond measure. 55percent of voters opposed the 47million dollar plan. Long time member of the linn county board of supepeisors says she will not seek another term. Linda langston has served on the board for nearly 14 years. Langston tells cbs 2 news she hopes to continue work to improve public h hlth and Mental Health services. After months of tracking polls, polls,following candidates all debates, senator ted cruz and Hillary Clinton claimed victory in the ioio caucuses. Caucuces. But what do the numbers mean . Cbs 2 news spoke to a Political Science professor in the corridor to analyze the numbers. On the republican side ted cruz proved the polls wrong putting trump second in the caucuses. Cornell college proffesor hans hassell says that doesnt mean that cruz had the best showinamong all the eandidates hassell says marco rubios strong third plple finish is more important. Rubio has been in the position where hes been sharing, hes been vying to be the consnssus candidate with abououfour other individuals, with john kasich, with jeb bush, with chris christie. Christie. The victory for cruz will give the texas senator 8 delegates. Donald trump and marco rubio each get sesen. Delegates are given out based on the statewide vote. In the democratic race Hillary Clinton won by the slimmest of margins. Hassell says clintons support comes from older leaned toward sanders. He adds many older women see clinton as a leader who can change issues that prevent females from soaring to the top. I rely think this is more about age e demographics. I mean yes you see among older women, that is a big driver of support for Hillary Clinton the Us State Department is now saying current secretary of state john kerry used a private email account to send information now considered classified to thensecretary of state e llary clinton to her private email account. Kerry was a senator when the message was sent back in may of 2011. Clinton has been heavily criticized for using a private ail when she held the office. Officials say the message talks about relations between India Pakistan and john kerry is among us and italian leaderswho are sending a warning this morning t tt isis is expanding its reach. Seeing. Aaron gives us aaron there are new developments in the minimum wage hike in Johnson County. County. One town is now exploring the option to scale back the minimum wage, but only for some of its residents, and thats not sitting well with everyone. Everyone. Cbs 2 news rerter Stephanie Johnson joins us now for more on this, stephanie. Stephanie. Thats right guys, the new ordinance that was proposed in tiffin, would set the minimum wage back to 7 twentyfive an hour, but only for workers younger than 18. 18. Right now all workers receive 8dollars and 25ceces an hour. And despite the fact that most of the crowd disagreed with the move, the City Council Approved the ordinance, with a 3to2 vote. Most people who attended the meeting all agreed that every worker should be paid the same amount. I think what its about it suppressing wages and it doesnt suppress wages for just children, which i am completely against, but it suppresses wages for everyone. Everyone. Peggy lifes not fair and theres no way we can make it fair by saying everybody should get paid the same money for the same job. Now hold on. On. Newly elected Johnson County board of supervisor, lisa greendouglas, even spoke out against the proposal saying. In quoteif you start making a cutoff based on age of youngegethan 18, you can flip that around and make the same discrimination about people over 50. 50. But its not a done deal just yet. Still at some locations the high mand caused delays last minute rerestrations and some sites even ran out of forms. There was also confusion about how to register to caucus and la arrivals pushed back start time. Trying g accomodate those people who were showing up, who needed to be registered to vote, we say weve closed the doors, but thats for people who havent arrived in time. Time. There were a lot of angry people who thought this you go in and sign up, sign in, and not understanding its a caucus caussome experts y the high turnout in ioio will set the tone for the rest of the race. A grim discovery off the coast of hawaii, hawaii,the Us Marine Corps says trace elements odna have been found from marines that were killed in a Helicopter Crash last month. Month. It was found during search and rescue operations that ended a few weeks ago. The families of the identified marines were notified. 12 Service Members were killed when two helicopters crashed during nighttime training in january. The cause is still under investigation. Another follow up this morning. Michigan Governor Rick Snyder will propose 30Million Dollars in state funding to help pay the water bills of some flint residents. Residents. As youll recall flints Drinking Water was contaminated two years ago, when the citys water supply was chanaed to save money. Snyder says the residents shouount have to pay for water that they cant drink. But the aid would cover the bills for water thats been used for drinking, cooking, bathing and washing hands. They would still be responsible for ying for flushed toilets and washing clothes. Officials released more details in the death of a 13 yearold virginia girl. Girl. A prosecutor in the case now says Nicole Lovell was stabbed to death on wednesdada 27th. But they havent relased a motive. Motive.
