march. lisa. >> reporter: organizers estimate about 40,000 to 50,000 people are here and they are not deterred by this rain. take a look over my shoulder, there are so many people here, the main stage is about 100 yards away. and from here to there is a plaza packed with people. the overall vibe is one of excitement. there are men, women, people of all ages and lots of children here. this has really turned out to be kind of a family event. parents want their kids to be a part of the movement. >> i believe to stand up for themselves. i don't want them to think that they can't be whatever they want to be. >> i really do feel like i want to take more action, get more involved. i have friends that say they might think about running for politics. >> i think it's exciting to be here because it is a historic event. >> reporter: house democratic leader nancy pelosi finished speaking from the main stage. she had words of encouragement for the people out here and she will also be walking in the march. back here live now, all of these people will be leaving the plaza in about 30 to 60 minutes. they will march to justin herman plaza and i'm told that downtown san francisco is becoming a mess because of traffic and a lot of street closures along the march path. i'm live in san francisco, abc 7. in washington, a massive crowd turned out to protest. and it turned into one giants moving rally. it grew from a simple facebook post by a grandmother in hawaii attracting attention including from california's newest senator. >> part of what makes us great is we are a nation that was founded on certain ideals. founded on the ideals that were spoken in 1776. that a we are all and should be treated as equals. >> organizers estimate a half million people showed up today compared to mr. trump's inauguration yesterday, it should be note that had some streets around the national mall were closed yesterday. an estimated 60,000 marcher took to the streets in oakland today. sky 7 showing the large crowd spread throughout downtown. katie utehs is there with more. >> reporter: organizers are cleaning up following more than five hours of peaceful protests. oakland police say there were no arrests today, many people have either gone to san francisco for that rally or gone home at this point. but not before they packed the streets of oakland. the smallest of marchers expressing mighty opinions. >> why are you matching? >> to respect women's rights. >> because why want them to make a war and i don't want him to make a wall. >> i'm marching because i want me and everybody else to be equal. >> reporter: some fear that's not the direction president donald trump is taking the country. >> i'm terrified for the first time in my life about the leadership of this country. it isn't right. >> reporter: the women's march is a national even international movement. >> there are millions of people marching today not only in america, but all over the world. and in the end of the day that's what it's all about, it's about us standing up for our rights. >> reporter: crowds packed the streets of oakland. >> i can cry all day because i just love women so much and i'm so happy to see everyone here. so it means we have hope. >> reporter: freeways and b.a.r.t. lines jammed as people tried to join the rally. ♪ we shall overcome >> makes me personally feel like i can conquer anything. >> reporter: a message of echoe masses. katie utehs, nbc 7. and the south bay women's march started at 10:00 this morning at city hall. san jose place estimate 25,000 people were in the crowd. >> everyone is welcome here, no hate, no fear. >> you heard the chant there. abc 7 was in the crowd as they marched for a rally. organizers say the march is about social justice, civil liberties and human rights for everyone. >> it isn't matter who won. this needed to happen. >> she hopes everyone in the crowd will get involved politically going forward. in santa rosa, a large crowd demonstrated with signs that said we stand for women and tweet less. the city had to shut down streets during the rally earlier this afternoon. the movement went worldwide. protesters marched in solidarity across europe, south africa, mexico, even apt artre antarcti. 2.5 million estimated took part. donald trump passed the protests in d.c. while heading back to the white house from a prayer service. the president and first lady arrived this morning. for years the episcopal diocese of washington has hosted a prayer service for the new president. this year members opposed the prayer because of comments mr. trump has made, but church leaders decided to continue as ap on an obligation to welcoming all people. a large group of pro-life disrupters disrupted traffic in san francisco earlier this afternoon. sky 7 was over the walk for life crowd as they marched just after 2:00. several marchers held a large banner that said abortion hurts bill their goal is to end abortion this america. this is the 13th year for this walk in san francisco. we have a slight break in the rain right now, but it's going to come back strong tonight. storm season has taken its toll on the bay area. it brought down this tree there was a levee breach. nearly two dozen had to leave that i ever homes f their homes for the said time in a two weeks. and in a few weeks, it could pick up. >> we'll powerful, it ripped the car in half and started a fire in the cabin of a truck. at least one person was killed. investigators have not said yet what caused the crash. san mateo authorities were investigating the death of a man parasailing. firefighters believe the man was overcome by waves. two bystanders pulled him out and gave him cpr before paramedics arrived, but he did not survive. there is a high surf warning there through 3:00 a.m. tomorrow. swells could reach as high as 30 feet. fire investigators say an electrical malfunction is responsible for an aquarium store catching fire today. it happened at aquarium concepts around 8:00 a.m. fire crews were able to knock down the flames with an about ten minutes. they say the building sprinkler system helped them knock the fire down. no humans were hurt. some fish were killed, though. right now heaps of snow are falling in tahoe. so much expected to come down so fast, it could force some people out of their homes. and just warning about avalanche danger. you can see the snowy conditions on interstate 80. there is an alert urging people in alpine meadows to voluntarily evacuate through monday. >> we're tracking another
