The water main break happened last night on fillmore at union streets and then just o ocks away, a sinkhole opened on green street. Abc seven News Reporter luis pena has the details and talked to residents and businesses in that area. A massive sinkhole is taking over the intersection of green and fillmore streets in San Francisco. The road caved in after one of the citys aging water pipes broke overnight, sending droves of water rushing down multiple streets. What we have here is a probably at least a 70 year old, six 18 inch cast iron. So its an old pipe. Proactively, the Public Utilities commission assess is prioritizes and repairs around 9 to 10 miles of pipeline in a year. But you know, leaks still do happen. Police say theyre still searching for the suspect. Meanwhile, a plea from oakland Business Owners as they asked for the city to do more to stop robberies at their stores. Abc7 News Reporter ryan curry spoke with one owner who says these break ins are leaving his stores with serious damage. Videos like this are ones ahmed ali says he records regularly. This is a group of people using their car to yank the gate off one of his stores before running in and stealing nearly everything. Its very dangerous and we never seen it this bad. Ali and his family have owned stores in oakland for 30 years. He says many of his stores have been robbed in the last two years. This incident happened just two weeks ago. They wrapped the chain around the gate and pulled the whole storefront out, and they were in their shopping. I mean, they were in there for like 20, maybe ten minutes. Ali knows numerous other stores in oakland being aggressively robbed. This video shows thieves running up to another one of his stores with an Assault Rifle before running away. Oakland Police Confirmed to abc seven news they are investigating at least two burglaries in the last week. On monday, they say these kinds of crimes have gone up. What weve seen throughout the city, including Little Saigon international and even some of our business corridors, is increase in robberies and burglaries, robberies, street level robberies, as well as auto burglaries and in some regards, commercial burglaries. Oakland police say thieves are targeting stores that have large amounts of cash inside and stores that carry high end merchandise. These are efforts for individuals to get ahold of them very rapidly and try and either offload to a vendor to get more money or to have cash on hand. More changes to the office of san joses independent Police Auditor just months after the top watchdog retired, the assistant Police Auditor, has now stepped down. Abc7 news south bay reporter Dustin Dorsey has a look at what she said in her letter of resignation in its current existence. This office is without real power or respect from either anyone at city leadership level nor as jpd. A scathing statement from san joses outgoing assistant independent Police Auditor, eva roa, part of a letter obtained by abc7 news questioning how city leaders handle misconduct allegations and how the city treats employees in general. Roa is resignation comes three months after siobhan neri retired as the san jose Police Departments top watchdog. The independent Police Auditor office is tasked with making sure city internal investigations into officer misconduct are fair and thorough. A mission roa has grave concerns about the office being able to actually carry out. According to the letter sj pd officers face multiple accusations of misconduct in 2022, including showing up drunk on the job, indecent exposure and fentanyl overdose. After joining the ipa in january 2020, roa said the office ceased to exist in the mind of san jose leaders until the annual year end report, or when a National Event or moment of crisis occurs. Roa wrote. The city is merely doing window dressing as to oversight of Police Misconduct and the concerns of the people of san jose regarding such conduct.
