A rising star in San Franciscos political world resigns and could be facing an investigation amid serious Sexual Assault allegations. Our Media Partners at the sf standard spoke with three women, accusing john jacobo of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. The women told the standard they all filed police reports, but say that those reports didnt go anywhere. Jacobo was a director for the housing nonprofit tenants and owners development corporation. Sf standard reporter josh cain says the women feared further violence from jacobo if they spoke out. These accusations are very explosive, very damaging and there was a lot of fear for not only their professional careers but also their safety. San franciscos police chief says his department is investigating the three womens reports. San francisco supervisor Hillary Ronen is now calling for a hearing on how the city handles Sexual Harassment and assault cases. As for jacobo, he did not respond to the standards request for comment on the story. A San Francisco jail is set to reopen today, while a second one is still closed. There was another attack at one of the jails. Yeah, thats right, kumasi, the sheriff told reporters yesterday two inmates had barricaded themselves in a cell in san bruno with handmade weapons. Because of that, that jail still remains closed. While the San Francisco one is set to reopen. The two jails have been under lockdown since last friday, while authorities investigated recent attacks. The sheriff says as many as seven Staff Members and nine deputies have been injured since late march. Deputies warned the sheriff Something Like this would happen nearly 100 of them signed a letter saying in november to the sheriff. Critical levels of Staffing Shortages. Deputies in san bruno said they were mentally and physically exhausted. Fights, drug use and assaults. Staff had said they have seen them increase. The sheriff described some of the injuries over the past week. As i mentioned, weve had a number of deputies go out on injuries that include punches to the head, face and neck. However Staffing Shortage remains a huge concern for the jail theyre supposed to have. On paper, around 500 workers. They have less than 400. So something they have to address going forward. Dozens gathering to demand the release of the 26 people who were arrested the day before for shutting down the Golden Gate Bridge as part of a wider propalestinian protest. Those 26 people arrested by the california Highway Patrol and booked into custody on multiple charges, including felony conspiracy. These unprecedented the uh that this felony charges are being made. Earlier in the day, San FranciscoDistrict AttorneyBrooke Jenkins announcing that her office wouldnt be charging those protesters by a tuesday afternoon deadline, saying her team needs more time and help from witnesses who were stuck on the bridge, stressing, however, that this is an open and active investigation and that charges are indeed coming. We support those who want to make sure that their First Amendment rights are observed and that their point of views are heard, but where we must draw the line is when acts of free speech endanger public safety. A Senate Committee will hear from a whistleblower and a panel of experts who call for significant improvements at the aircraft manufacturer. The whistleblower, engineer sam salarpur, claims the 787 dreamliner wide body jets are not properly put together and could eventually break apart over time. He wants the faa to immediately ground these jets. Boeing is calling salarpur claims inaccurate. The company says in part the issue raised the issues raised, i should say, have been subject to rigorous engineering examination under faa oversight. This analysis has validated that these issues do not present any safety concerns. Salarpur has not provided any documented evidence. Boeing is now encouraging employees to speak up about quality concerns ahead of todays hearing. The company says. Reports to an internal tip line about aircraft quality are up about 500 this year. Tomorrow is the anniversary of the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco, and the mayor is taking a major step in its 3030 year plan for improving seismic safety. She issued an executive director directive instructing city departments to identify concrete buildings that may be vulnerable in major earthquakes. Experts say these at risk buildings are not easily identified from the street, so a screening process is needed to identify them and prioritize those that need to be retrofitted. The city is also a step closer to installing 33 speed cameras. Yesterday, the Municipal Transportation Agency board of directors unanimously approved the locations for these cameras. Theyre expected to be installed as soon as next year. The cameras are part of a statewide Pilot Program that will ticket drivers who exceed the speed limit by at least 11 miles an hour. Bart is giving cash refunds to those who turn in their paper blue and white tickets. It now requires riders to use clipper cards for access into bart stations.
