Tropical iselle. At the San Francisco airport, were checking on air travel to hawaii. What is the latest on iselle . Reporter the latest is what we expected, and that is flooding rains. Nearly 10 inches of rain falling in some parts of the big island, especially near Volcano National park, five inches. And weve got five inches around hilo right now. In fact that Flood Warning continues for a halfhour for the southeastern half of the island. And thats because of the heavy rain that continue to pound there. Even though the winds are weakening, were seeing wave after wave after shower. Its reaching up to honolulu right now even though the heart of the storm is over the big island. As we take a look at whats going on, Tropical Storm warnings until at least monday morning. We could have 39 mileperhour winds across the chain. Hes take a look at how its shaping up. Its falling apart and sticking at the island and thats why with 50 mileperhour winds were seeing the rain. Tomorrow afternoon hawaii time its going to be pulling away and moving away. Well focus on julio. Its going to produce pretty cool waves to surf on but it will not be a onetwo punch as far as the hurricane coming in. The big threat now is the flooding thats coming out. Thousands 0 people are waking up to find out their power is still out this morning. As we told you tropical iselle forced more than 1200 people on the big island into evacuation shelters. Strong wunds and rain brought down trees and power lines. In oahu theyre expecting the storm this afternoon. Were hunkered down, in the drk, and its starting to get noisy out there. Its a little scarey. The winds are starting to howl and the rain is going in all different directions. And that was abc news camera woman jenny. Shes riding out the storm in her home on the big island. Schools and government offices remain close. Hurricane julio is close behind and could reach the island over the weekend. Several flight to hawaii have been canceled and some local families have had to cut their vacations short out fear they would be trapped by the storm. Alyssa herrington is life with more. Reporter the good news is most flights are on schedule today but some travelers i talked to did not want to risk it and came home from their hawaiian vie occasion early. We were supposed to go to the big island and took a detour. Reporter this family is back from their hawaii yann vacation two days early. We just wanted to be safe and back home. Reporter they booked a flight from hand lew lew to sfo to try and beat the bad weather. The tenyearold admits the shorter vacation meant she wasnt able to do everything she was looking forward to. I wanted to go on a helicopter tour and i wanted to actually swim with dolphins. You were going to show her the lava rocks and all of that. Because of the Tropical Storm we were scared because they were predicting the landfalls and high winds. Reporter the Tropical Storm started grounding the flight yesterday. Eight total have been canceled in and out of sfo, this includes four arrivals this morning. One alaska air flight was canceled. A departure to maui delayed more than two hours. Here are a few of the lucky ones to get on a plane that took off from honolulu. Rain at the airport. You could hear the people at the airport getting stressed out. One flight to los angeles actually left five hours ahead of schedule to get travelers out of town before iselle stormed in. A 29yearold man from concord who was driving the motorcycle died at the scene. Police say he was speeding as he approached the intersection and ran a read light. Police say the driver of the car did stop and has cooperated with the investigation. Police are investigating a groping incident. A come said she was assaulted shortly after 6 00 last night. She reported the incident to Stanford Police and described the suspect as a white man in his mid 20s, 63 with a thin build, short hair, a light beard and was wearing a light blue shoirt sw blue jeans. She says he was walking a gray pit bull. The man had a tattoo with unknown writing on his right arm. We want to continue to talk about the exciting news. Morning news anchor kristen sze reminded everyone of how many young lives will be touched by creating this new play space. Were going to put up an awesome playground in six hours time. Reporter we paired up with disney and kaboom to transnormal this playground from top to bottom. We believe that play is an important part of every childs life. She helped to leave hundreds of volunteers, many of whom from this east Oakland Community through the paces. She says making over the park is about more than assembling slides and sand boxes. She says what children will take away will last a lifetime. Play is more than moving your body. Its engaging your mind and its also socially engaging your peers, adults and others. Reporter the next six hours are crucial to the makeover. This time lapsed video shows some of the preps being done and only hint at the number of nails, hammers and hands necessary to make it happened. I feel like i have been sprinkled with pixie dust. Air strikes against islamic militants in iraq have begun a day after president obama authorized strategic attacks along with human tear aid. About 3 45 this morning the u. S. Military struck the militant isis target in northern iraq. They dropped 500pound laser guided bombs. The pentagon says isis was using the artillery to shell forces near where the u. S. Personnel are located. Thousands of families have fled to the top of a mountain to escape the threat of isis militants below. Carefully and responsibly. Thats what were doing on that mountain. Right now the faa is prohibiting u. S. Airlines and other commercial carriers from flying over iraq saying hostilities there could threaten safety. A South African judge announced that she will give the verdict of Oscar Pistorius on september 11th. The judges announcement came as both sides rested in the fivemonth long trial. Prosecutors claim pistorius shot and killed his girlfriend last year. The defense says they believe he was defending himself against an intruder inside his home. But if youre hanging around for the evening festivities the, it will cool to 65 degrees. Weve got other things going on too, like outside land. Its going to be in the 60s there.
