Morning letting them know this is in effect. Life on van ness avenue will never be the same again. This morning computerers learned forthtires time that left turns are no longer allowed. Some drivers are distraught. Its crazy and bad. Its not convenient but im sure they need do it. Muni officials were leased of this first morning of new reality. We did warn people that the changes were coming and to let them know they should take alternate routes of muni if they can. There were a lot of people on muni this morning and peel are taking alternate routes. Reporter the plan is a little fain now or a big payoff later cars not turning left, should save a lot of time, according to transportation officials. It will speed things up because cars will have to wait for cars to make a left turn. They wont have to wait for buses going in and out of bus zones and increasing service along the corridor. Bringing that all together could save up to 1r5 minutes. Reporter while not turning left is a big change, some residents say they could envision the benefit. I think the left turn hold up the traffic anyway. You can always make a right and take a side street and, you know, get around that way. Just go on a different street than van ness to make a turn. I dont know. I think keeping van ness moving straight makes it more efficient. Reporter you can still get left on broadway if youre southbound. Lombard and hayes if youre northbound. But thats it. And one more heads up, theyre going to be shutting down a lane on van ness, either later this week or next. Its going to be in both directions, so plan accordingly. Reporting live in
