It also includes higher car registration fees, and a 100 annual charge if you have an electric car starting in 2020. We are using the roads, so i understand why there would be some sort of tax associated with that, but at the same time, its not fair because we i got the car so that i wouldnt have to pay for gas. Mike, thank you. State officials are launching an investigation into the Santa Clara County elections office. They are questioning numerous mistakes that reach as far back as 2010. Everybody involved say mistakes happen during the election process, but there are questions. How many is too many . What can be done to stop them . The troubles for Santa Clara County registrar of voters went to the state capital. Its not uncommon for mistakes to occur in the natural process, but the frequency of such errors is of significant concern. Im very much focused on ensuring the electoral process for the public. Reporter the Audit Committee approved a request from evan lowe to look at the registrars office. They point to several incidents since 2010 including wrong information in voter information guides, sample ballots missing candidates, missing texts, and ballots sent to individuals who were not eligible to vote. I spoke to lowe by phone this morning asking the goal of the audit. Whether or not these are isolated errors or systemic problems, we have to focus on the audit so that we can have full confidence in a process. Registrar voters was at yesterdays Committee Meeting in sacramento saying Santa Clara County has complex elections due to the languages, jurisdictions, and contests on the ballots, and has been transparent when mistakes are made. I have full confidence in the winners in the outcomes in the elections in Santa Clara County. That said, again, we have had errors in processing some of the paperwork or programming a field in these prior elections. We are always looking for ways to improve. Police looking for clues in a deadly late night shooting 96th avenue. A teenage boy was shot and died on scene. The victim has not been identified and no arrests made. A deadly shooting in San Francisco that we first reported as breaking news yesterday at midday. Police say a 65yearold woman was killed in the ocean view neighborhood at Plymouth Avenue and broad street. Two men were hit but expected to survive. Police say the victim was walking up to a bus stop when she was gunned down. This is the fourth shooting in the neighborhood since november. Neighbors say someone needs to step up and take control. So something needs to be done instead of the Police Harassing children that live here, its outside neighborhoods that come over here and commit violences and really something needs to be done because our children and these families, we dont deserve this at all. Community members are calling on the city to install cameras along the dangerous block. An elderly man died in a fire at a complex. The victim was not breathing when pulled from the building. The fire was contained to one apartment. Firefighters said a leaking propane tank sparked the fire. Calls reported an explosion. The propane inside of the structure did, in fact, pressurize the structure to the point where the windows did blow out. Investigators dont know what ignited the gas. We could have a conclusion to the Napa Valley High School hazing case. The school board is expected to rule tonight on the possible expulsion of eight football players. They include johnny torres, a jv player, who was an honor student, accused of alleged hazing incident in october first reported by our iteam. He described it as horseplay. The meeting is scheduled tonight at 6 30. A state senator launches an effort to create Single Payer Health care in california. Democrat lara of Southern California wants an insurance system where the state sets up prices with hospitals and drug companies. They say shes not explained how california would pay for Single Payer Health care, it needs to pass several hurdles before becoming law. The socalled bathroom law is headed to the governors desk in california. Its passed both of the states legislative houses, but civil rights activists and lgbtq believe the new law doesnt do enough to protect peoples rights. Replaces one bathroom bill that made the state of North Carolina infamous with another kind of bathroom bill, and it solidifies North Carolinas reputation as a state that puts lgbt quality last. North carolinas new law still requires people in some situations to use the bathroom that matches their gender at birth and not their current gender identity. The states democratic governor and republican lawmakers brokered a new bill after several organizations and businesses boycotted North Carolina. Happening today, the Senate Intelligence committee holds its first public hearing into russias interference in last years election and ties to the trump administration. The examiner reports ccsf is banking on an 8 enrollment boost despite the fact students left the school in droves over the past five years. Ccsf has lost roughly a third of its students since 2012, but the board of trustees reportedly is optimistic that offering free tuition next fall will turn enrollment around. If that does not happen, though, city college will be forced to cut some faculty and staff positions and offer fewer courses.
