Local elected leaders and bridge district officials marked the beginning of work to line the sidewalks with suicide barriers following decades of people ending their lives by jumping off the bridge. Within a matter of seconds, the fire went from in front of this pillar around to the side and fully engulfed their tent, and as you guys know, they lost their dogs, and jumped from their tent to our tent, and it just took out everything. Reporter pictures from oakland photographer show how huge the fire was. It started at 7 30 this morning on east 12th street. Five tents destroyed and a dog died. Everyone else got out okay. Very scary. I panicked. I didnt know what to do. Just worried about, you know, our lives. Workers from the nonprofit Operation Dignity stopped by to offer help, but the victories say they now have a long way to go to getting back on their feet. This was not the best environment to begin with, but its what we had.
