Tonight a fifth person is still missing. Good evening. It happened off catalina island. 26yearold Michael Harris was killed. He is the son of the former ceo peter harris. Abc7 News Reporter lilian kim joins us live in the newsroom with more on the story. Michael harris was with his girlfriend a quarter mile from the casino point. They were all in a dingy when it was struck by a speeding boat. Witnesses say they heard someone screaming for help around 1 00 a. M. The collision happened near catalina island. Michael harris was killed. His girlfriend and two others were killed and others injured. They launched a dive and sonar search and suspended their efforts at 7 00 p. M. Michael was the psychologist in the family. We all have been talking about how we want to talk to him about it. David and Richard Harris from michaels younger brothers. Their father was the ceo of the 49ers from 2000 to 2004. Michael had his whole life ahead of him. He just received his masters in counseling psychology and started a new job working with kids. His relationship with kelly wells was one the family quietly hoped would lead to marriage. I would give him trouble about when he would propose to his girlfriend. They were in the process of moving in together. She will always be a part of our family and we are lucky that she is safe. The family doesnt know the specifics as to what exactly happened in the collision. They say they will miss how michael lit up a room. His selfdepricating humor and compassion for others. I dont think the pain will fade, but we will be happier and happier as we continue celebrating his legacy and the person he was and the way he touched all of us. The fuel dumped for 40 minutes and circling off point reyes. He and his wife were headed to istanbul, turkey for vacation. That has been delayed. This is the flight path the pilots took. The boats though were actually less full today than yesterday. Saturday 8400 passengers road the ferry compared to 3700 the same day last year. The frequency of ferries is much better.
