Abc 7 news starts right now with live breaking news. Good evening. Im eric thomas. That breaking news is out of san jose where theres been a deadly hit and run accident on a major roadway. Lets get to abc 7 News Reporter lisa amin gulezian. Reporter hi, eric. This is the closest police will let us get to the scene. The crash happened around 9 30. Were about three blocks from hicks road. The scene is a massive scene. Two cars that were involved. Joining me is mateo san cles. He was here right after it happened. Tell me what you saw. When i pulled up to the scene, me and my friends started running towards it. We saw two cars. And one was pretty badly hit and the other one had his hood smashed in. The driver of that car had stepped out of the vehicle and was responsive. And the other two were still in their vehicle not responding. And someone there called the cops and shortly after i arrived, the cops showed up. Did it look like it was a headon collision . Yeah, one was going really fast probably. What do you think happened as far as cars going in which direction . I think that the car that was severely hit was speeding down the street and the other was coming up the hill and it was kind of a blind spot. You see that car spin out or turn towards them. So he probably like didnt have time to react and hit that car. You think it was a headon collision . Yes. As far as the number of people, you think there were two that were nonresponsive . Police have confirmed one person is dead but you did see one person come out of the car. That was the prius that came up to the blind spot of the hill. Reporter youve lived here for quite some time. At least six people are dead and three others injured in what Police Describe as a series of random shootings around kalamazoo. Police have arrested a possible suspect. The shooting happened over the past few hours in a parking lot at a Cracker Barrel restaurant and a ford dealership. Authorities say the shootings appear to be random murders. People who watch their homes burn in a big fire in the Mission District last year say they may never get to return. City inspectors have ordered the apartments at mission and 22nd streets to be demolished as early as next week after those intense flames ripped through the building. Inspectors say its unstable and an earthquake could collapse the building on to the street. Even if a new building goes up, rent control laws would no longer apply. 3,000. Thats crazy. Even in the mission. I think its unconscionable that this landlord has allowed things to get to the point where they are. The supervisor campos calls the demolition order unjust and is searching for a lastminute solution. The owner of the building could nobt reached for comment. The device was safely disposed of. No one was hurt. Fire torched a truck hauling two horses and two bulls in napa today. Flames did not reach the trailer and the animals made it out safely. Crews piled sandbags to help slow the erosion. Six agencies all with a say in how the erosion should be managed have agreed on a 40 million project to close the great highway south of slope boulevard and create a coastal trail in its place in 2021. Heres something we havent seen in months. Recreational fishermen catching dungeness crab in the bay area. Abc 7 news was there where we saw lots of big catches today. Testing shows its now safe to fish for sport south of port reyes after crabs tested positive for a toxin deadly to people. It is good news for hungry fishermen. Eat them right now. Its been a while before weve been able to fish for anything. Everybody wants to go fishing. Commercial season is still closed, and its going to be until at least the end of next week before state testing comes back to determine if commercial fishing is safe. Well, todays sidewalk at todays parade is a culmination of two weeks worth of celebration. 2016 is the year of the monkey. And for this Chinese New Year parade, they were everywhere. He has a broken jaw wired together, a feeding tube, a punctured tail, a cone and massive hematoma in his chest. They think he was hit with a baseball bat. He is like i dont understand how someone can do that to a persons animal. Reporter banks san indoor outdoor cat so it wasnt a surprise when he didnt come home the night of the attack. But 24 hours later, he eventually returned but could barely walk. Im grateful and thankful he was able to come home, yes, but i cant imagine the hours spent in so much pain.
