Tonight the owners are offering a reward for the 3 1 2 ton train and the trailer that carries it. Abc7 News ReporterAlyssa Harrington is live in Pleasant Hill with our report. Reporter eric, that reward is a free train ride to your favorite nonprofit with your friends. Thats a 2,000 value, and thats if this familyowned business gets their train back. It was last seen right here inside of its trailer, but it went missing sometime last night. Now, the owners hope that somebody heard or saw something. This is the train, and this is the trailer it was inside. The pair, worth about 60,000, mysteriously disappeared. My stomach dropped. Reporter Eric Sossamon says the trailer was in its usual spot in the Company Parking Lot in Pleasant Hill saturday night. When he arrived for work sunday morning, it was gone. Why would you take a train that brings pleasure to thousands of kids . Whats in it for you . You cant really sell it. It kind of sticks out if you try to drive it anywhere. Reporter the trackless electric train is wildly popular, used at festivals, School Events and parties. Its the companys biggest moneymaker. In fact, the train was supposed to be one of the Main Attractions at sundays bayview Hunters Point summer carnival. Instead, a smaller one was brought in at the last minute. We had rented a train to showcase a new shoreline path at pg e just recently created and it was very disappointing when at 8 00 a. M. This morning we got a call saying that the trailer with the train had been stolen overnight. I was shocked how Something Like that could happen. We had a ball anyway. Whoever took that train, shame on you. Reporter this is the only clue left behind. This purple cable that was attached to the train, pumping power all night long. Sossamon and his family are sharing pictures and information on social media to get the word out and get this train back where it belongs. In Pleasant Hill, Alyssa Harrington, abc7 news. Police in the north bay tonight are looking for the thieves who stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry today from a costco store. These photos from a resident show the smash the display cases at the novato costco. It happened around 10 00 this morning when the three thieves wearing surgical masks burst it, took the merchandise, and got away in a black chevy with temporary license plates. The jewelry is valued at about 50,000. Novato police are investigating to see if this case is connected to other recent robberies at bay area costco stores. A 5yearold antioch boy is at Childrens Hospital in oakland after nearly drowning during a Birthday Party today. Neighbor lisa puckett shot this cell phone video of First Responders tending to the boy at the somerset apartments on contra loma boulevard this afternoon. Puckett heard the commotion and summoned help. I was sitting outside on the porch and i see the little boy fall in the pool. Then i seen his mother jump in the pool after him. After they pulled the little boy out, they started giving him cpr, and i called 911. The boy eventually regained consciousness and was airlifted to the hospital. A Family Member tellsbcnews the boy will be okay. Tomorrow marks a new chapter for the trump white house. Reporter eric, bay area residents we saw today appear to be feeling anxious about whats going on domestically and abroad. We heard their concerns at a town hall meeting hosted by congressman ro khanna. For many, north korea was weighing on their minds. Im not old enough for medicare yet. Reporter for others it was concerned that the gop fight to repeal obamacare isnt over. Many of us are concerned about the 2018 elections. Reporter and for just about everyone, the midterms cant come soon enough. There are very few people on the planet who only support destructive activities, and thats what i see going on. Reporter south bay congressman ro khanna did what he could to reassure the crowd at his monthly town hall. He referred to the career people in government. I will say this. We have some of the most brilliant men and women working on this. Reporter senator Dianne Feinstein says based on the intelligence shes read shes hoping general john kelly can play a key role. He starts his new job monday morning. This is one of the reasons that i hope general kelly will be able to be effective, is to begin some very serious negotiation with the north. Reporter congressman khanna says at the very least, he hopes general kelly will restore dignity in the white house. I hope general kelly may restore some of that because thats a nonpartisan issue. Officials who have analyzed fridays launch now believe north koreas weaponry can reach most of the u. S. Mainland. Defense Officials Say tests of a Missile Defense system early this morning over alaska were successful. They released this video of the groundbased thaad Defense System shooting down a mock missile fired by a u. S. Air force plane. At least nine people were hurt after a van slammed into a crowd of people dining at a restaurant in los angeles this afternoon. One person was critically injured in the accident which happened on west pico boulevard in midcity. In all, eight people went to the hospital. According to police, the man had been involved in an accident with another vehicle nearby when one blew a red light. The impact of the crash sent the vehicle careening into the crowd. Witnesses say the driver tried to run away but was caught. He faces felony hitandrun charges. Terrorism is not suspected. A popular south bay breakfast spot wont be open tomorrow morning. The los gatos cafe specializes in omelets, scrambles and baked good. Early today emergency crews arrived to find a red suv had taken out the front of the cafe. It had also damaged a power pole and a fire hydrant. A woman from the suv was treated and taken to the hospital in stable condition. The Fire Department says crews were called out to investigate a downed wire, but instead found a transformer that blew up and started a fire on a power pole. More than 5,000 people were affected at the height of the outage. A proposal to delay start times in california schools is getting a mixed response. The bill barring middle schools and high schools from starting earlier than 8 30 a. M. Is making its way through the state legislature. Supporters say it would give kids a better nights sleep and improve their performance. Others worry it could turn family schedules into chaos. A final vote could come as early as next month. Hamm was working on his laptop computer inside this starbucks saturday night creating a new project when he became the victim of a brazen robbery. Hamm says four young men wearing hoodies stormed inside the starbucks. Suddenly he just grabs my laptop right out of my hand, knocks the drink over and is out the door with it. Reporter another customer had her laptop stolen too during the strong arm robbery and tried chasing down the suspects but they got away through the parking lot. On july 18th, two customers had their laptop stolen inside this starbucks on park street by suspects who police say ran in and ran out. Police say laptop thefts can happen anywhere but cant say for sure if these crimes are related. Be vigilant. Try to stay alert and aware of your surrounding. Thats according to online reports. The bots developed code words to make things more efficient, but when they began forming those words into a new language, human programmers didnt understand it, and it was time to pull the plug. Researchers say its not the first time a. I. Bots have formed their own language. People who lack sufficient sleep generally have bigger waistlines according to a new study. Researchers found that adults hours a night had a waist x circumference three centimeters larger than people who got nine hours of sleep. Knox the cat is missing one of its front limbs after it had to be amputated by veterinarians at the peninsula humane society.
