Black lives matter black lives matter marchers here in the bay area tonight say theyre using love to try to neutralize the hate exemplified by protesters in charlottesville, virginia. Several cities in the bay area took part in a nationwide show of solidarity tonight for the victims caught in the charlottesville chaos. This comes as we learn new information about the driver who is now charged with murder. Abc news report Elizabeth Herr is in charlottesville with the new details. Reporter from charlottesville to our Nations Capital and cities across the country, a rally for unity and prayers for the victims. And this is new video of 20yearold james fields jr. Seen with a known white supremacist group, then hours later fields allegedly carrying out his attack and arrested for murder. His former teacher now saying fields even made pronazi comments in high school. He felt that the views that adolf hitler espoused were correct. Reporter tonight charlottesville still on high alert as one of the organizers of the unite the right march is confronted by counterprotesters and forced to run from his own news conference. Abc7 News Reporter Elissa Harrington is live tonight in San Francisco where a crowd gathered in front of city hall. Elissa . Reporter eric, i actually got a chance to meet a family from charlottesville. Theyre visiting San Francisco, and they told me since they cant protest at home, they wanted to join a demonstration with others here. We knew it was happening. We just didnt know how bad it was going to be. Reporter kristen bream and her family are visiting San Francisco from charlottesville, a town thrust into the national spotlight. The center of violent clashes between White Nationalists and counterprotesters. Kristen, her husband, and two teenage boys joined hundreds of people at a solidarity protest outside city hall. They say racism has no place in their town, and it has been hard to watch from a distance. I was glad we were not there to experience it, but it was hard seeing the posts and the pictures and the fear from my friends on facebook. Its very distressing. We know those locations where the car ran over the people. I mean weve gone there many times. Thats right downtown, and, yeah, its very disturbing. You wonder what were going to find when we get back. Reporter demonstrators used candles and flashlights to light up civic center plaza. One woman carried a sign that said hero with a picture of Heather Heyer, the protester killed by a speeding driver. Earlier, demonstrators marched through the city. Many waved flags and held signs denouncing racism. Some blamed President Donald Trump for dividing the country. Every Single Person on this hear earth needs love. Reporter a similar rally took place in lathe am square for the second day in a row. Protesters gave speeches and lit candles calling for peace and unity. Elissa harrington, abc7 news. In the south, civil rights supporters came together tonight in a solidarity vigil. They gathered outside San Jose City hall in a peaceful rally to unite against racism and white supremacy. Organizers say theyre seeking to end Racial Injustice and encourage people to speak out and commit to action. More support from charlottesville came from the east bay. About 100 people held a candlelight vigil at adobe park in Castro Valley to show what love and tolerance can do. They were encouraged to bring candles to signify peace and hope. Theres an outpouring of condolences to remember the three victims of yesterdays violence. They include Heather Heyer and two v state troopers killed in a Helicopter Crash near charlottesville. Lieutenant h. J. Cullen and berke bates. The 32yearold hier was a paralegal who took up a spekd job as a waitress. Over the phone, her mother spoke of the tragic loss. Heathers life was not about hate. And this young man who ran my daughter down mistakenly believed that hate would change the world. And look at this heartfelt moment in charlottesville today. People stopped and applauded stat troopers as they walked down main street in that city, paying tribute to the two Law Enforcement officers who were killed. 35 others were injured in the crash and in the clashes. A berkeley restaurant says it does not support the actions of those in charlottesville. Top dog posted a sign with its views after a flurry of social media posts suggested a man at the rally worked at top dog. The restaurant says as of yesterday, that man is no longer an employee. Abc7 News Reporter Melanie Woodrow has the story. Reporter employees at top dog on durant avenue said they had no comment about a now former employee who may have been in charlottesville. Different people were releasing the peoples names and looking at their faces and trying to see, okay, where are they from . Someone said, oh, he works here in berkeley. Reporter a sign on the restaurants door says effective saturday, 12th august, cole white no longer works at top dog. The actions of those in charlottesville are not supported by top dog. We believe in individual freedom and volunteary association for everyone. Several uc Berkeley Students stopped by the restaurant to take pictures of the sign. I feel like its good theyre taking a stand against this kind of stuff. Reporter many of them horrified by the violence in shar rotsville. Its crazy. Its 2017, and we still have people so backwards, who cant seem to wrap their heads around inclusivist. Reporter theres some question the response on social media as people attempt to identify those in the crowd. Activities rallied in front of a Contra Costa County jail today against what they say is collusion between the Sheriffs Office and immigration officials. The Group Accuses the Sheriffs Office of cooperating with i. C. E. Agents. In a statement on its website, the Sheriffs Office said it does not arrest people on immigration status, nor do they take part in immigration raids, nor do they carry out deportations. The search is on tonight for a killer after someone stabbed a man to death in milpitas. Police were called to a business on windsor street shortly after midnight where they found the man dead. The attorney for the 18yearold woman accused of driving drunk and Live Streaming a fatal crash says worn tires may be to blame for the wreck. Abdul ya sanchezs lawyer says the worn tires led to a blowout, which caused the crash that left sanchezs 14yearold sister dead in Merced County last month. Prosecutors say sanchez was intoxicated and drove distracted. Sanchez was livestreaming on her phone during the crash. She is charged with six felonies including gross vehicular manslaughter. Seven people in union city are out of their home tonight after a car plowed through their duplex. Investigators think a car and a pickup truck were street racing when both crashed sending the sedan careening through the wall of the home. Organizers of this years outside lands Music Festival say the event went well despite some minor hiccups. They say tickets for each day of the event sold out. That is 70,000 tickets for each day of the three days. Some of those fans hoped to see a tribe called quest during the event but travel complications led the group to cancel their appearance. The fog has moved in quickly to our east bay. Its going to move out just as quickly out of the north bay, but the higher clouds are going to linger into much of the afternoon for the peninsula and the south bay. Lets go in a little bit closer. Live doppler 7, you can see the fog around 680, san ramon, 580, oakland, emeryville, down towards fremont already, and of course all of San Francisco shrouded in the fog. As we go towards half moon bay, wouldnt be surprised to see some mist and drizzle throughout the evening hours and the overnight hours. So the culprit is this area of low pressure. Pretty strong for this time of year. A falllike system bringing just a little bit of rain into washington state. Our friends up in seattle got a few spritzes of rain, but this is not going to bring us much. Maybe a couple hundredths along the coast, but the winds are beginning to dial back. Looking at a cooler day and warmer temperatures arrive throughout the rest of the week. Its going to be subtle warming, though. Nothing too extreme. So as we look at our overnight lows, youll notice that mainly in the upper 50s to never 60. Weve got that blanket of clouds overhead. So not too cool out there, and it is the first day of school for some kids. So we will look for some of that clearing in the afternoon. But as we take you through the hour by hour forecast, you notice that weve got the mist and drizzle on and off. By 8 00, were looking at some sun up in santa rosa down through central marin. Then by the afternoon, its a sunnier day in the north bay than it will be along the peninsula and the south bay. So it should be pleasant but certainly below normal, and that might bode well for the kids in pleasanton because, you know, its one of those days where were looking at back to school temperatures in the low 70s.
